The Order Of Golden Roses - Chapter 13 Transplantation
It was another ordinary stone house, nothing suspicious for a personage I thought as someone important. She must be a retired Person who just wanted to spend their remaining time in peace, at least I can respect that.
“Oh Azusa-sama, do you want to check on mother?” a young man came out of a wooden hut beside the house.
“Ah, I just guide a Guest who wanted to visit her though maybe I should check on her once more” she politely replied
“A guest?” he then glanced on me “sorry, It just we rarely received a guest here” he chuckled lightly while rubbing his head, “please enter though I must apologize if it was dirty here” then he leads us into the house.
“Who’s that *cough* *cough* is that you Azusa?” an old woman came out of an entrance with a curtain as its cover.
She then suddenly stumbled on her feet. “Mother! have I told you to not go out, your condition has worsened so” he holds her hand, helping her to stand
“What are you talking *cough* *cough* about? I am just waiting for my time if I die now then so be it”
“Sigh, roc-chan your son was worried sick about you, don’t be stubborn like that” Azusa surprisingly admonished her.
“Sigh, fine and this is?” shifting the topic she looked at me.
“Ah, this is Will, he said he wanted to visit you. He looks a fine young boy, so I guided him here”
“If Azusa said you are trustworthy then so be it, I’m sure you have something for me”
“Thank you granny roc, truthfully I have some inquiry about something” I produced the letter charlotte-nee san gave to me after on I handed it to granny.
“Hmm, I see though I don’t *cough* *cough* *cough*” she was about to fall but Azusa and the granny son hold her before that. “Sorry, Will-kun her condition has fluctuated and this has happened since the last days” apologizing to me, he then supported granny roc to her room, Azusa and I followed suit.
“Sigh, she will be like this for the next 3 days. I have administered some medicine and healing magic but it will only fasten her recovery” Azusa solemnly said after treating granny roc. Granny roc son has gone back to the kitchen to make us some water.
“Nee-chan, have you ever had any thought to replace the organ?”
“That’s the problem Will, the organ was now her lifeline since she didn’t have enough life force to support her, and it’s not like we have the exact replacement and tools for such delicate surgery. After all, the organ needs to be 100% compatible with her body and soul which mean we need the exact same replica of the organ.” She placed her hand on her chin “Will, you –don’t say you have a solution for this, do you?” I smirked at this.
“Will what is this place?” she stared in wonder after I teleported her, along granny roc and her son to the med-bay inside ‘my room’
“Hehe, look at the splendor of the cleanest place in the entire continent! This is my basecamp Nee-chan” I smugly replied. Still, I just showed them only the Med-bay. The place was actually big enough to call it a hospital.
After Azusa and co make promises to me to not told about this to anyone about this place, and I only told them that this place was actually somewhere around the continent. We proceed to place granny roc to one of the room in here, it can’t be helped if I perform the magic organ transplant inside the house it will be disastrous since the place was too unsanitary for any medical process.
“Will, isn’t this too modern or I think it’s too futuristic for a medieval world like this?” I confused at her question
“What do you mean nee-chan?” if I think about it, her name was eastern despite her appearances, and she has an enormous magical capacity, granny roc deeply respected her even she calls her ‘roc-chan’ like someone calling a neighborhood child. Was she actually a Reincarnator?
“No, never mind, Will”
“If you so nee-chan” it was someone secret, I don’t need to sniff my nose too hard for something trivial like that.
“Who is the girl behind you will?” I turned back and I saw, Altria was walking toward us.
“Ah, this is Altria Altria, this is Azusa” she bowed to her, “Uhm” was her short respond.
“Hello! Altria-chan ah, how cute like a doll!” Hmm, she looked like children a lot, I thought as Azusa rubbing Altria cheeks.
“So Altria, how about the girl condition?”
“She’s fineher condition has stabilizedshe have a lot of nightmares though andcried sometimes” that’s good, I never though Altria as someone who can take care of people.
“What do you mean Will?” Azusa with curiosity asked
“Ah, actually before we came here, we came across a girl who got kidnapped by a slave trader”
“I never liked the notion of slavery, I hope she will get well soon”
“Neither one of us nee-chan, still let’s go we have still many jobs to do”
Altria tugged the hem of my shirt, “what is it Altria?” she must be asking for more desserts, but she lowered her head to me, her antenna twitching occasionally.
With an instinct I somehow rubbed her head, “thanks for your work, Altria”
“Uhm” of course before that she asked for another “provision” and headed back to the girl room.
After on, we were headed to one of the lab facility in here. I prepared the necessary tools for the transplant, while Azusa-san taking some blood, DNA, and Mana sample from granny roc. I have the blueprints of the organ, so thanks to that I didn’t need to do grueling research to create it. It will only take some Alchemy and flash-clone to achieve it.
After 4 days of testing and simulation to make sure everything will be alright in the surgery, and now we were just waiting for the flash-clone to finish inside the tank, thanks to the facility in here we didn’t need to supervise every procedure. Everything was made easy that you only need an automated system to restore your broken limb.
Now we just need to perform the transplant. Azusa will assist me as a makeshift mana source for granny roc since the organ will be temporarily disabled.
“Still, nee-chan, I hope there’s no strange variable somewhere.”
“Don’t jinx it, Will”
Thankfully this is not my first attempt to perform surgery though. During the early war with the covenant, it was literally hell when they have plasma weapon that could easily melt metal and bones, and medic was exceedingly low in number as casualties raking up due to lack of supply of literally everything. Drop-ship carrying supply and reinforcement would be ruthlessly shut-down by the covenant flyers and any attempt of building a forward-base will be met with plasma bombardment of covenant destroyer.
In such a desperate situation, when my comrade life was hanging I scavenge every single magazine or book relating to the medical subject. I did what I could do, most of my teammate was illiterate and from backwater world roached by insurrectionist, so everyone really depends on me when it comes to supporting and technical knowledge.
4-hours pass, to my relief the transplantation was proceeding smoothly. No further complication then calculated side-effect, she will not be able to use the new organ for a while. Replica maybe, it still was not the same as the old one, her body needs to take some time to adjust with the new object and I also opened her magic circuit, and found there were only 14 of 34 intermediate quality units still functioning.
“So, Will-sama, Azusa-sama she has been cured right?” Ah, I forgot about the granny son. It was funny that His face and clothes were drenched in sweat for worrying about her mother instead of me, still, he really loves his mother, huh.
“Don’t worry, she will live for another hundred years if needed.” I cracked a joke, okay that’s lame I admit.
“Thank god, I don’t know how I would repay you” he sighed in relief
“No worries, it also thanks to Azusa nee-chan without her it will be much harder to cure her in the first place.” True, I didn’t lie, she was very helpful when it comes to medicinal herb and treatment knowledge, and I didn’t know any method of magical energy transfer other than “that”. (In fate, magi transfer their Mana by exchanging body liquid especially through sex or blood transfusion)
“Don’t flatter me like that Will” Uwah so soft, I thought as she pulled me in her embrace.
Three days passed, and granny roc has awakened after we bring her back to her house. She was too cheerful unlike her grumpy self before, too cheerful perhaps for the self-proclaimed lady that her age was as high as her level.
“Haha! Thank you, boy! I never thought I could feel this good again!” She was practically jumping when she wakes up. And now she was trying to punch me her savior in the so-called sparring.
Yeah, now I know she was also a battle junkie. “Now thanks to these circuits, I no longer need any backlash when using heavy moves” I dodge her blow to the side as she pursued and tried to barrage me with fists like a Saiyan.
We’ve been like this for a week, she was offering me a position as her disciple as thanks for saving her. I politely declined as I have another journey to make and asked the location of the golden city, yet she refuses unless I study under her for a week.
She was strong, not strong in a sense she can make an explosion with her fist but the most frightening thing about her technique was it ignored defense stats though I’m not sure it would apply outside the SS.
The most useful thing I could get from her was the Od or chi manipulation, it could help me chant faster and effective than before. And like this, my training under her was about to end.
“Golden city, huh” she gave a long sigh, giving a long look as in reminiscence.
“Well, I don’t know what you were looking for but clearing it was almost impossible.”
“What do you mean about that?” I tilted my head
“It was actually a Dungeon, it spanned numerous floors filled with unseen monster, traps, and puzzle”
“If it was a dungeon than surely it should become a hotspot for adventurers isn’t it?”
“True, but only a handful knew its existence and no one could even survive inside it, to lack of better word it was like a trial chamber rather than a dungeon. Once you enter the door will be closed shut, until you cleared it which nobody couldn’t since each floor will be guarded with a powerful monster or finding an escape route if you were lucky. Even we’re not sure if it was the entrance to the golden city or not”
Fair enough, if there was dungeon said to be filled with treasures, adventurers would flock around it and worse, the risk was not worth it as there will be no way back to the surface. Adventurers here were meant to cull the monster population, gather material, and fulfill a request of a client. To lack of better term they were just a bunch of freelancer, true there was exploration type but risking into dungeon and ruin was not really worth it as sometimes they were just a nest of monster without any real value.
“Is there some kind of advice or hint?”
“No, still I know you’re strong. Strong enough to beat me over and still have enough strength to beat me 5 times over, moreover with that little girl there.” she glanced at Altria who know besides me.
“I can only say Be careful I can’t talk about it no more,” she said bitterly.
“Thank you! Granny roc, it has been an honor to study under you” I bowed to her,
Azusa was waiting for us outside, I’m glad now there the three of us. Over a week she tried to convince us to not go to the dungeon. I was pretty stubborn about it until granny roc told her to go watch over us. I couldn’t say no to her, she was pretty strong and could complement our fighting style. But the most important thing about her was her mother hen nature. Seriously we’re just a bunch of uncontrolled brat, Altria with her eating habit, and my obsession when researching something.
Then we set for our first journey. The dungeon was located at the eastern mountain of the kingdom, we could reach there within a day journey
