The Pearl Of Vynes - Chapter 34 The Prodigal Daughter Returns
The bandit was still unconscious while he was on Alice’s shoulder while Miles stood infront of the gate. Alice dumped him in front of the gate and they made their way from the gates. It opened up and a retinue of guards came out to find the count’s son returned with a note attached to explain the situation. The guards looked on as the two walked down the road and back into the countryside.
“It’s going to be difficult to get back unfortunately” Miles remarked. “I know how to turn myself into an animal to travel but for you I think it would be too difficult to learn on the spot”
“I think I have a solution” Alice said. Miles raised his eyebrows.
“Alright, shoot” said Miles.
“Well I’m still working on it so it might be a little experimental” Alice said. Miles hesitated at that,
“You know a maybe is a really bad idea when it comes to magic” Miles remarked.
for visiting.
“We don’t have time for this Alice, now I need you to sit” Alice said. Miles complied and sat cross legged on the ground. Alice joined him and held out both of her hands to Miles to hold. Miles gripped her hand tightly and Alice closed her eyes. She pictured Tane and the cart. Him lying down on the side of the road besides the campfire eating. As focused she felt everything rush past her at a blinding speed. Suddenly she halted as if she was almost thrown of a horse and opened her eyes. Miles was still opposite her but his hands were now white from gripping her hands. Tane was on the ground and had already jumped in surprise, cursing in a couple languages that Alice had never heard. Miles recovering quite quickly brushed the dirt of his trousers and stood up.
“Looks like we’re ready to start again” Miles said and sat down at the campfire and bringing out some dried food to eat from under his clothes. Tane looked at the time of them as if they had grown a second head. Alice grabbed some food from the cart and sat down next to Miles as they ate.
“Girl doesn’t know how to use magic and yet she can use warp magic that only a rare few are born with” Tane said out loud shaking his head.
“Alice is always full of surprises” Miles remarked lying down on his sleeping mat. Alice got Tane up to speed with their situation. Miles was deep in thought having not moved for quite a few minutes.
“What’s wrong Miles?” Tane asked, leaning over from his spot to poke Miles on the shoulder. Miles snapped out of his thought process.
“Well a lot of things have happened along the way that seemed to odd for me” Miles said.
“Such as?” Tane asked.
“Well all the incidents we’ve had have always been connected back to Alice” Miles said.
“She has bad luck, happens to the best of us” Tane remarked.
“Except the last one was a direct attack on her village, and too many conincidences are bothering for me” Miles said more worried.
“You think it has anything to do with where we are going?” Tane said.
“Probably, I think there’s a lot more to our trip than meets the eye. We’ll have to be wary from now on” Miles warned.
“Well night everyone, I’m sure we’ll pick up on the morrow” Tane said turning over and wrapping himself in a thin blanket. Alice rested on her mat. Saddened that she couldn’t say goodbye to her father but at the very least hoped that the count would like after her village for her and faded off into sleep.
