The Pearl Of Vynes - Chapter 38 We Save The World Of Course
“That’s the last thing I want you to do” Miles said, staring straight into her eyes.
“Where are we?” Alice asked still crouched looking around at the plain cavern that felt familiar.
“This is the meeting place of the gods, here they after the war they brought about the creation of the world. And where the cursed pearl was made into being” Miles said quietly.
“So is this where we supposed to be?” Alice asked.
“You could say its your one true home” a wretched voice said from the shadows. Miles turned towards the voice, ready into position to fight. A figure that was barely visible before stepped forward, a hood covering his face. Miles inhaled sharply and pushed Alice behind him.
“I didn’t think you’d be lying now, Baleal” Miles hissed.
“Haha, is that all you have to say for an old friend Seth?” Baleal responded in a relaxed manner that sent a cold shiver down Alice’s spine.
“You know well that I am not Seth, we are both but avatars of the long dead gods” Miles said.
“Not dead Seth, very much slumbering. With the pearl here, I can now wake the world and create it anew” Baleal smiled, the lantern shining just enough light to reveal the bottom half of his faith. Miles acted first and leapt at Baleal but Baleal brought forth his hand and shadows sprouted from the ground restraining Miles. Struggling Miles was pinned to the ground, Baleal slowly walked towards Alice.
“Run Alice!” Miles shouted as the shadows continued to slowly crush his body.
“You are mine, young pearl” Baleal said as he continued to close in on Alice, her body was frozen stiff at the presence of the man. Suddenly her eyes clouded over and turned white while the pattern on her body glowed intensly.
“Perfect, it truly is whole again” Baleal smiled. Alice bridged the gap between them instantly but Baleal dodged out of the way as a punch was let loose, using a shadow he tripped Alice and put her to the floor. Placing a hand on her neck, it slowly disappeared and Alice let loose a scream of pain.
“No Baleal, don’t do it!” Miles shouted. Baleal smirked in Miles’ direction as he continued, Alice’s screams continued to climb. Finally Baleal started to pull his hand back out of Alice, an orb in his hand although slightly smaller than what Miles had remembered.
“My thanks Seth, without you none of this would’ve been possible. It was difficult convincing the warlock to break away from the Brave’s guild. Power is vice for many people indeed” Baleal said staring at the glowing jewel.
“It was you?” Miles shouted in fury, struggling to free himself from his bonds.
“Of course, ever since you came back from that village I’ve been keeping an eye on you. You should be careful when you involve others, aye Seth?” Baleal said.
Miles let loose a roar and finally broke the shadows, standing up his muscles churned and screamed to be unleashed. Baleal shook his finger at Miles.
“You should know fighting between avatars could bring about the ruination of this land. And so I bid you farewell” Balael said laughing as he disappeared into the ground. Miles launched himself at Baleal but too late as he vanished into the ground. Miles let loose a roar of anger and hit the ground with his fists, shattering the ground but it soon healed over again. Crawling over to Alice, her body was limp and cold in his hands he cried over her. Tane came running and saw the scene.
“What happened?” Tane asked but the words barely could reach Miles.
“Curse you, curse all of you gods” Miles shouted to the ceiling as he wept over Alice. Tane came over and said his prayers over the body. As they held the body of Alice, three figures, hazy but large appeared around the table.
“Young Seth, we are sorry for you loss” the figure sharpened clearly into the now familiar form of Lady Moira. Miles looked at the goddess with sadness and anger. The other two figures took their forms, Altoc the Lord of Fire and Life had a beard of flames whilst in full armour. Boraa, who was stumpy in comparison to the other two was however just as broad as his height, with a hammer in his hand.
“For this innocent one who had carried on her duty, we give a gift” Boraa said lifting his hammer and it shined a bright light, Lady Moira held her hand above her hand and it shone as well. Atloc drew his sword and brought it into the air as well, creating a blinding light. The three points suddenly became a ball of pure white and hovered slowly over Alice. Slowly descending it disappeared into Alice’s chest. Suddenly Alice heaved as she took a huge breath and started to cough, Miles overjoyed hugged her tightly which she then kept smacking his back to let go.
“I believe this is enough. Seth, stop Baleal. He will go about turning this world upside down, you are the only one left in this world” Atloc said with a stout voice.
“You know very well I left it all behind” Miles said to the images of the once great gods.
“You are our last hope Seth” Lady Moira said in a pleading tone. The images of the figures became fuzzy and faded into thin air. Tane after a moment of taking it all in walked over to Miles, Alice was lying on the floor passed out but very much alive.
“So what’s the plan?” Tane asked.
“The plan? We save the world of course” Miles said grinning ear to ear.
