The Perfect War Story……. - Chapter 104
Suddenly Smith got up from his seat and held his glass of white wine in his hand looking at the newly wedded couple. “Austin and Linda … To be able to find your soul mate is a true blessing. Let us raise a glass to the bride and groom. Thank you for sharing your blessing of happiness with all of us. May all your hopes and dreams come true, and may the memory of this day become dearer with each passing year. Here’s to marriage, that happy estate
that resembles a pair of scissors…. So joined that they cannot be separated,
often moving in opposite directions,
yet punishing anyone who comes between them.” Smith raised his glass while everybody to raised there glasses in the honour of the couple.
As soon as Smith sat down on his seat, Sheryl quickly got up from her seat, looking at Linda with tears in her eyes. “Oh! Gosh! I cannot believe you guys are married.” She picked up her wine glass looking at the two of them. “To the lovely bride and groom, here are my wishes for you. May you always have a place to call home and may you always be surrounded by those you love. Watching Linda and Austin together has renewed my faith in true love. I am so honoured to be a part of this special day. Let us toast to the two people who have brought all of us together in this room today.” She raisee her glass while others too happily raised a toast after hearing Sheryl’s heartfelt words.
Austin seemed to be sitting stifly, with a fake smile on his face, while Linda was trying her best to not cry and smudge her makeup.
Linda’s mother next got up from her seat, picking up her wine glass looking at her daughter with much happiness. “To you both, it’s worth bearing in mind that neither of you will ever be perfect, but you can be perfect together. May the future hold your happiness. May the future hold your health. May your heart hold your love, and may your arms hold your babies, yet to come. Here’s to your future happiness together!” She smiled looking at Linda and yet again her gaze fell upon Linda’s gigantic rock on her finger. She sat down instantly, pretending to be extremely emotional and moved.
“Thank you mom.” Linda gave a flying kiss to her mother, as a tear dropped down from her eye.
As soon as Austin’s father’s turn came, Austin’s heart was suddenly filled with guilt. His father was the only man whom he loved dearly and found to be truely honest.
“It is written: when children find true love, parents find true joy. Here’s to your joy and ours, from this day forward. There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings. Here is to you soaring together. May you be friends to each other as only lovers can, and may you love each other as only best friends can.” The man spoke in much happiness raising his toast as he looked at Austin in much happiness.
Linda looked at the old man in much happiness and placed her hand on Austin’s hand squeezing it a bit. Austin was yet again lost in his own world, after hearing his father’s words. He was already wondering how he was going to break everybody’s hearts, when he will announce a divorce with Linda. He can never imagine himself in a marriage with the lady, who was his professional rival.
“Ohk. Now it is my brother’s turn to speak up. Brother, how do you feel finally getting to marry your crush from past five years?” Smity grinned as he looked at Austin in a notorious manner.
Several squeals and shreiks were heard from all corners of table as the revelation was made by Smith.
Auatin pursed his lips in embrassement, as everybody started to question him about it.
“What five years you waited for?”
“Five years? Thats long!!”
“Oh my goodness. You never told me about that Austin.” Linda to gasped in shock and held Austin’s hand even more tightly.
“Yeah, i guess I just did not want to scare you away.” Austin grinned a bit awkwardly and then glared at Smith in much anger.
“What brother. Now you are married. It is fine. Come on, get up and speak your heart out. Speak all your emotions, burried from past five years.” Smith winked looking at Austin and Austin rolled his eyes looking at him. He wanted to punch Smith in his face but he neverthelesss adjusted his coat and stood up on his feet, holding his wine glass. He turned to look at Linda and gave a wide smile.
” Here’s to the prettiest, here’s to the wittiest,
Here’s to the truest of all who are true,
Here’s to the neatest one, here’s to the sweetest one,
Here’s to them, all in one – here’s to you.”
“Because I love you truly,
Because you love me, too,
My very greatest happiness
Is sharing life with you.
I have known many,
Liked not a few,
Loved only one –
I toast to you.” He raised the glass looking at Linda while everybody hooted and clapped for him.
Linda clinked her glass with Austin taking a sip from her glass. She then stood up on her feet raising her own glass. “It took me a lot of time to write, what I am about to speak.” She turned to look at Austin who had seated himself on his seat while looking at Linda. “They say you don’t marry the person you can live with, you marry the person you can’t live without. May you never forget what is worth remembering or remember what is best forgotten. We have had a rough past, but all I can thibk of now is how fate wantee us to be one. I love you Austin.” Linda looked at the man with much sincerity and Austin nodded his head looking at her.
Everybody hootee and clapped for the two as they all started to feast on the delicacies. “So, where are we going? You have yet not disclosed to me.” Linda whispered in Austin’s ear, in much excitement.
The truth was that Austin had no clue as to where Smith had arranged the honeymoon for them. He was least intetested in exploring the places and was all Smith who had decided on Austin’s part.
“Ahem… wait for it. It is a surprise.” Austin whispered back trying to sound extremely genuine. The moment he looked at her, yet again he was blown away by her beauty. “I cannot wait to make love to you again Linda.” He whispered as his gaze fell upon his alluring cleavage.
“Me too.” Linda blushed a little looking in his dark eyes. Little did the girl know that the man was not saying this out of love but purely out of attraction towards her beauty.
Two hours later….
“These are your tickets. I have booked a wonderful hotel in Paris for you guys. The plane is waiting for you guys. Everything is all set.” Smith spoke up looking at Austin, inside a luxurious room of the hotel.
“Oh Paris? I hope we will get back before tge liquor case hearing.” Austin frowned looking at the tickets.
“Yes, you will still have three days. But… tell me what is wrong with you?” Smith frowned looking at Austin in confusion.
“What do you mean?” Austin shrugged his shoulders yet not looking at Smith.
“I wrote your vows… and I wrote your lines you had to speak for your toast to Linda. I selected Linda’s ring and your outfit too. And now…. the honeymoon is also planned by me…. Are you out of your mind?” Smith held out his hands looking at Austin in much frustration.
“What!? I trust you man. You are my brother and I trust your choice. Look how beautifully you arranged the wedding. What else would I want?” Austin answered cleverly looking at Smith.
“This is not you. Alright. You like things your own way. I know you from past so many years. Tell me, what is wrong witg you? Are you happy marrying Linda?” Smith patted Austin’s shoulder looking at him in much concern.
Austin looked at Smith in a pensive mode. He wanted to reveal his plan to Smith but he knew even his best friend would not support him in something so adverse. Besides, he knew that Smith was already in love with Sheryl so he would be more concerned about Linda’s welfare too. “Don’t be silly. This is how I am. I cannit express much. You know me dude. Now, I am running late for my honeymoon. Let go off me, or do you want to come aong with Sheryl?” Austin winked patting Smith’s hand.
