The Place Where Everything Begins - Chapter 169

A total of eight arrows traveled through the air, gliding accurately at almost the same time towards the emerging creature.
A split second later, four arrows hit the target creating the ‘puchi’ noises one after another.
Meanwhile, the other four arrows had missed the target; three arrows grazed past the creature’s body narrowly, whereas the last one went utterly awry.
“Oinkkk!”
The creature, which appeared to be a wild boar, groaned in pain as red blood started seeping out from the wounds over its body.
“A wild boar?”
Someone within team 5 mumbled to himself after seeing what the creature was.
Right now, many people were expressing a relieved expression after realizing the situation was nothing to be worried about.
After the boar was shot like a porcupine, it staggered left and right in pain before slumping down to the ground heavily.
“It looks like we will have a barbeque party this evening,” said Trevor as he walked towards the boar, intending to end its pitiful life using his sword.
However, before Trevor could proceed two steps towards the slumping boar, someone suddenly pulled his leather armor, yanking Trevor back slightly.
*Whoosh*
An arrow grazed past Trevor’s face with only ten centimeters gap between them.
Trevor could see the arrow’s silhouette pretty clearly…
If Trevor wasn’t pulled back earlier, his head should have been punctured by the arrow earlier.
Having experienced such a close call, Trevor’s eyes widened in horror while looking around the temperate forest in restlessness.
Simultaneously, a shout was heard from tens of meters away from Trevor,
“Enemy, ambush! Aargh!!” shouted someone before his voice came to an abrupt end.
The person who had shouted earlier had gone a bit further away from the team to look at the surrounding areas. Subsequently, he was met with an unfortunate end by a poisonous arrow in his chest.
Obviously, such a poisonuous arrow could only be fired from a kenku… which meant the scout team was unknowingly ambushed by the kenkus.
At this time, Rachel furrowed her eyebrows profoundly as she hadn’t felt the enemy’s presence in the least.
Even with her excellent senses and perfect eyesight, she still didn’t spot where the enemy was. She only knew the estimated direction in which those arrows came from.
‘The wild boar earlier might even have been staged up by the opponents…’ thought Rachel in realization as she was the first to react to this situation.
Right now, Rachel ran among the trees, turning left and right, not letting herself be an easy target. At the same time, she also tried to identify where the enemies were hiding.
The second person to respond was Mylah as she shouted aloud,
“Prepare for a battle! Tactic B!!”
Having heard the already-dead outlook’s warning and Mylah’s command, everyone got startled like frightened rabbits before proceeding to act according to tactic B.
Tactic B was simply a strategy used in case the team was ambushed by the enemies. According to this tactic, they had to sparse themselves further from one another, not to let the enemy encircle them from any direction.
“Thank you, Tommy. We will talk later; for now, I will go that way,” said Trevor after calming himself down for a bit before turning left and running there without any hesitation.
Jeremy looked briefly at Trevor’s back without saying anything. He had long realized about the ambush and the two ambushers awaiting them here.
However, Jeremy decided not to be active in this battle as he felt this situation of being ambushed was more to his advantage than his disadvantage.
After all, the fewer humans alive, the easier for him to execute his plan.
As for the reason Jeremy saved Trevor earlier was that the latter was quite cordial to him. Furthermore, saving Trevor’s life was not that hard, so Jeremy saved him on a whim.
At this time, Jeremy looked around the battlefield, analyzing the situation, while standing still on the same spot.
Jeremy saw people being shot by poisonous arrows one after another.
Surprisingly, the ambushers were pretty skillful in handling the bows and arrows. Within just twenty seconds, more than five humans had already been killed by the poisonous arrows.
Even when someone moved pretty fast, trying to escape the deadly arrows, they were still shot regardless.
‘Out of all kenkus, we have to encounter those two guys…’
Jeremy thought amusingly to himself as he shook his head while recalling the two kenkus’ profiles in his past life…
In Jeremy’s past life, within the two thousand or so kenkus, there were two reasonably infamous kenkus among them.
The duo was named by the humans as The Silencers.
Even though the Silencers always traveled in two, with no other kenkus around, whenever a human scout team encountered The Silencers, many, or worst, most people within the group would be wiped out by the two of them.
Albeit the kenku camp had lost to the human side in the end, the two renowned kenkus alone were estimated to reap more than one hundred human lives within twelve days of the second stage.
That amount was more than ten kills per day on average…
Even at the end of the second stage, with only 500 kenkus surviving and 550 humans remaining, the duo, Silencers, had managed to stay alive.
They even fought with the Killing Machine, Rachel, on some occasions, and one of them got an arrow through its shoulder, whereas another could retreat unscratched.
One had to note that Rachel owned a skill number in the 180s, yet she couldn’t kill even one of the two infamous kenkus.
That’s how The Silencers had managed to become so ‘infamous’ within the human camp and feared upon by most humans, including Jeremy at the time.
But this time, it was completely different as Jeremy was still as carefree as he could be…
‘Hmm?’
Having stood still for quite some seconds, Jeremy’s Sixth Sense was suddenly triggered.
Jeremy tilted his head to the left slightly…
*Whoosh*
An arrow went past Jeremy’s left ear dangerously as he raised his head to look at the place where the arrow came from.
There, Jeremy could feel the presence of someone standing obliquely to a tall tree roughly eighty meters away from him.
With Jeremy’s naked eyes, he could see the space appeared to be rippling as if a transparent being was moving past that place.
It was all thanks to Jeremy’s Sixth Sense that his eyes were enhanced to such a level that he could even see the ripple at such a distance pretty clearly.
‘[Third Eye]’ Jeremy commanded inwardly.
Soon, the sight before Jeremy started to warp as he saw the place at 80 meters away like he stood there.
The rippling space also revealed itself before Jeremy at this time.
It appeared that the ‘ripple’ was, in fact, a creature wearing leather armor, having a protruding beak on its mouth. It had a bow in its hand and two quivers of arrows on its back.
For a split second, it was as if the two sides, Jeremy and the kenku, had locked eyes with one another.
‘It appears like a Windwalk spell, but the effects are several times inferior. So, it should be a skill instead… That skill… what’s that skill’s name again?’
Having locking eyes with the looking-similar-to-others kenku, a skill’s name promptly came into Jeremy’s mind,
‘That’s right; it’s Camouflage, a skill that will make the user blend with the surroundings.’
Finishing his brief thought, Jeremy raised one eyebrow as he sidestepped to the right…
*Whoosh*
An arrow came flying past Jeremy from behind him, clearly aiming at his broad back as it was quite a big target.
‘These annoying pricks. Why do they want to pick a fight with me?’
Jeremy thought in annoyance as he started jogging to hide behind a big tree some meters away.
Upon arriving at the blind spot of the two kenkus, Jeremy thought to himself while looking around the forest,
‘I will let her handle everything as killing just two kenkus won’t make any difference in my Kill Points. Furthermore…’
Pausing his thought briefly, Jeremy closed his eyes and stimulated his Sixth Sense to the highest degree. He could feel it…
‘The feeling of being watched by not just one predator but two… It looks like the two cupids are interested in the battle between the so-called number one of the two camps. That means I have to be extra careful until this feeling disappears.’
Jeremy finished his thought with a frown of annoyance.
If he were strong enough or at least were a class 5 in the mage pathway, he would tear the very space to skin those annoying little angels alive.
Right now, Jeremy could only play it safe while waiting for an opportunity to strike once and for all. He still had a plan to execute after all…
At this moment, Jeremy saw that more than eight humans had been killed already.
Some were only grazed with minor wounds on their bodies, yet they still dropped to the ground after ten-odd seconds due to the lethal poison coated on the arrows.
Even if those people wouldn’t die, they were pretty much rendered helpless in this fight.
Meanwhile, right now, Rachel unexpectedly fired the arrows nonstop at the place where she saw the opponents’ arrows come from.
Although Rachel couldn’t see the opponents, she now realized that there were only two of them.
Additionally, those two opponents could become ‘invisible’ to the naked eyes, causing most people to be unable to see them.
Nevertheless, Rachel only needed to calculate the opponents’ arrows’ trajectory before firing at the places where the arrows flew out from.
Simultaneously, other humans could only run around erratically, trying to avoid the rains of arrows. Some had even attempted to run in a zigzag towards the invisible opponents.
But they soon realized the harsh truth.
The opponents were not some average kenkus they used to fight against before…
