The Place Where Everything Begins - Chapter 170
At this time, more than ten people had lost their lives without the capability of counterattacking back at all as they didn’t know where the opponents were.
They didn’t even know who they were fighting against, but considering the same old, familiar poisonous arrows, most people could pretty much guess their opponents’ identity.
Meanwhile…
“Do not go too far!”
Mylah shouted aloud from behind a big tree.
As the team leader, Mylah would occasionally give out orders and commands to her team members in battle.
Having heard their leader’s command, everyone acted accordingly.
‘There are indeed two of them. However, they are invisible; even their outfits and weapons are invisible…’ thought Rachel with a frown as she fired an arrow obliquely to the big tree situated tens of meters away.
Simultaneously, Rachel’s feet never stopped, trying to find the gaps between the trees to counterattack the opponents.
Albeit Rachel couldn’t see, she knew where the two enemies were right now. Even though the enemies constantly moved from place to place, their speed wasn’t that fast, roughly the same as humans.
So, Rachel could pinpoint the opponents’ locations from time to time when the enemies fired the poisonous arrows towards the team.
Right now, the two kenkus had already stopped firing at Jeremy after seeing the man hide behind the big tree.
The reason they shot those arrows at Jeremy earlier was that the latter appeared too cocky…
How could one stand in place without moving a single inch while being ambushed by rains of arrows?
Thus, they decided to give the man a lifetime’s lesson…
However, who would have known that the man could even dodge the arrows coming from the invisible them?
Maybe it was just a coincidence, but the fact that the man survived had infuriated the two of them a bit.
Still, there was a more critical matter to solve before them, so they averted their attention from the cocky man for now.
The important matter was undoubtedly the female human archer, who had managed to pinpoint their location very quickly. It was as if the woman could see them with her own eyes, but they knew such a notion was almost impossible as they used Camouflage to hide their presence right now.
*Whoosh*
An arrow fired by Rachel hurled past the kenku’s earlobe dangerously as its eyes widened in shock before hurriedly moving away to hide behind the tree not far from it.
*Fwuu…*
Rachel promptly let out a long breath before her eyes suddenly looked sharper that might even kill someone if she stared at them for a prolonged time.
‘The only place where it can hide…’
Rachel’s eyes moved towards a tall tree beside the place where her arrow went past earlier.
‘1…’
‘2…’
Rachel counted inwardly before her eyes suddenly brightened up…
Afterward, Rachel promptly raised her left hand, gripping the traditional bow while using her right hand, nocking an arrow inside the arrow shelf.
‘This is the chance!’
Rachel thought briefly as she let go of the arrows…
*Thwish*
The disturbing bowstring’s noise rang out as the arrow traveled through the air at a breakneck speed towards the side of the tall tree.
A split second later…
*Puchi*
The audible noise of flesh being pierced resounded out from beside the tall tree some tens of meters away from Rachel, followed shortly by a low grunting noise coming out from the victim’s mouth.
Having heard those noises, Rachel’s eyes lit up before opening her mouth,
“There are two opponents, an injured one at ten o’clock and another one at four o’clock!”
Rachel’s noise traveled through the air to the people present’s ears.
Some people’s eyes lit up as they started moving closer to the injured one, whereas some fired the arrows in the four o’clock direction, causing the two sides to fall into a brief stalemate.
Meanwhile, Rachel also detoured around the trees, trying to find another gap and blindspot to flank the injured kenku behind the tall tree.
‘Well, the tide has been turned…’
Jeremy thought as he had been observing and seeing the transpiring events from the beginning before raising one of his eyebrows in thought,
‘Furthermore, after the arrow had hit the kenku earlier, I feel that one of the predatory stares has left this place. Nonetheless, another one is watching over this event…’
It appeared that one of the cupids must have become a bit upset at the battle’s progression as it had abruptly stopped observing this battle, leaving behind only one pair of watchful eyes.
Having finished his momentary thought, Jeremy jogged unhurriedly in the ten o’clock direction, traversing from tree to tree along the way.
“Kieziii!!!”
The injured kenku shouted after seeing more than four humans coming towards it.
Upon hearing the shout, another kenku promptly stopped firing briefly before moving towards the place where its companion hid.
Simultaneously, the injured kenku, who had just pulled an arrow out from its right flank, started retreating bit by bit while firing arrows at the incoming humans.
“It is retreating; hurry up, shoot the arrows at it!”
Shouted Mylah as she ran left and right among the tree while closing the distance between her and the injured kenku.
Suddenly…
*Pluck*
A noise of an arrowhead piercing through the leather armor rang out…
Mylah, who had suddenly felt something in her left arm, promptly looked at the area where she felt the tingling sensation.
‘No…’
Mylah thought in disbelief as her body started swaying for a bit as she hurriedly hid behind the tree.
The tingling sensation from earlier started to become ‘prickling’ instead. Afterward, Mylah felt her entire left arm go numb from the poison’s effects.
‘I… I… my child…’ thought Mylah in regret as her eyes gradually became hazier, with some teardrops falling from the edges.
Mylah’s head felt so light; eventually, white bubbles gushed out from her mouth continuously, and her body started to shake slightly.
As seconds passed, the shake transformed into a convulsion. Not long after, Mylah stopped moving altogether.
Nobody knew she was dead or alive anymore as she closed her eyes and lay there, beside the tree, silently.
Regarding the one who had shot Mylah earlier, it was none other than the other kenku, who was trying to help its friend by firing the arrows towards the humans whom were approaching its injured companion.
The battle proceeded…
“There, look at the blue blood trail heading in eight o’clock direction!” shouted Trevor as he arrived at the place where the injured kenku hid earlier.
Having heard Trevor’s shout, Rachel furrowed her eyebrows slightly before shouting back,
“It’s trying to reunite with the other one! Intercept it!”
After Rachel’s voice died down, four of the nine surviving humans, including Jeremy, started shifting the direction, aiming to prevent the two kenkus from escaping away together.
Meanwhile, the other five humans, including Rachel, continued marching and traversing along the treelines while firing the arrows towards the place where the two kenkus were.
Even though it looked like the battle had been ongoing for a long time already, the time was, in fact, had only passed for a bit more than two minutes at most.
At this time, the two sides continued the chasing session of mice and cats, with the kenkus as mice and the humans as cats.
The injured kenku, although still invisible to the naked eyes, would leave a blue blood trail behind as it escaped the humans’ chase.
At the same time, the four humans who were melee fighters tried hard to breach the gap between the two sides while avoiding the incoming arrows.
Meanwhile, the other kenku also tried to detour around the battlefield, trying to find a way to meet up with its companion while firing poisonous arrows occasionally at the chasing humans.
As for Rachel and the other four human achers, they dispersed into five different places while also firing the arrows at the two kenkus.
Thus, due to the kenkus’ invisible property, the situation somehow fell into a deadly stalemate, with one side trying to get away while another trying to catch up.
‘Well, the other cupid comes back? Now, I feel two stares observing this place once again,” thought Jeremy as he traversed with a moderate pace among the trees towards the injured kenku.
Jeremy made sure his speed was roughly the same as Trevor, not to cause any conspicuous performance.
Just like that, the stalemate continued…
…
At a place far away from where the Tutorial took place…
Inside a big room with a white Crystal the size of a phonebooth floating in the middle…
A tiny little girl around 4 or 5 years old with a pair of white wings stuck on her back, floating in the air without the wings moving.
The girl wore white pampers covering her lower half, whereas her upper half was a pure white chiton, a simple tunic garment of lighter linen.
From her looks and wings, it was clear that she was a female cupid…
In front of the cupid was a giant monitor if compared to the cupid’s stature with the size of 5×5 meters in dimension, depicting a scene of a green forest on the screen.
On the monitor, the cupid suddenly saw an arrow traveling towards a kenku swiftly, but in the cupid’s eyes, the arrow only traveled in slow motion make her almost yawn on boredom.
Soon after…
*Puchi*
The arrow embedded itself inside the kenku’s flank…
“Damn it! Why is that bird so stupid!?”
The cursing resounded out from the cupid’s little mouth as her wings shook slightly, causing the space within the room to distort like it was about to tear apart.
“Eh, Yeva! Calm down. If you don’t stop now, you will destroy this room, causing us to clean this place up.”
A voice was suddenly heard from behind the female cupid, Yeva, as she turned her head back to look at the speaker before opening her mouth,
“Yuriy, you bastard! You can say that because your number one human girl is winning against that two stupid birds! I bet if you are in my place, you will feel the same as me. Hmph!”
Having heard Yeva’s words, Yuriy raised his eyebrows in amusement before saying,
“You bet? Hehehe, I will always welcome a bet from you…”
Yuriy said with a small voice while his face was plastered with a satisfied expression.
After all, Yuriy’s champion was winning against Yeva’s two champions simultaneously. If everything progressed as it was now, the human would win in the end. He would also receive all the betted stake.
Yeva shook her head in upset after seeing Yuriy’s cocky attitude before saying in reply,
“Alright, I will go out to take a breather for a bit…”
Having said those words, Yeva flapped her small wings slightly before her entire figure suddenly disappeared into thin air.
Upon seeing Yeva leaving the room, Yuriy replied with his cute, small voice while his eyes curved up into a crescent shape,
“See yaaa”
