- Chapter 57: The Last Dungeon (2)
The inside of the dungeon looked like they walked into a high-class hotel. It was like they entered the lobby as there was a vast opening in the middle with a massive plant as a centerpiece.
There were two large staircases on both sides as seats were positioned around the area. The black and beige walls had lights on them, making the room shine.
There were poles near the staircase, leading up to a ceiling that seemed to not have an endpoint as vines wrapped around them.
The sight was beautiful, but that was not what caught people’s attention; it was the beautiful monster walking down the stairs.
She was dressed in a skin-tight white dress that was open in the front and back. There were slits on both sides of her dress, making their way to her hips. Her long black hair flowed as she walked, contrasting her white gown.
Her eyes were white, while her lips were black. She was smiling at them, showing off her sharp white teeth that seemed to glisten with the lights.
The monster made her way over, stopping in front of them. The hunters reached for their weapons as the porters backed up a bit. Everyone was on edge as the tension seemed to grow, but no one made a move.
She gave a small twirl, causing her dress to bleed into black (while her lips and hair turned white), showing a bunch of skin. When she stopped, the monster gave a small bow before speaking to them.
‘That is a messenger from the Germa Clan. They are not real, but puppets controlled by one of the leaders of the clan.’ Siren informed Neban.
Neban did not react, acting like he did not have someone speaking to him in his head (even though Siren is currently in his pocket).
“Welcome, humans; we have prepared a final treat for you before the grand finale makes an appearance. Up those stairs are two different doors. The group must split in two for the doors to open.
“Failure to do so will lead to all of you staying in here forever while the ones outside end up dead.” The monster’s voice reminded everyone of a prerecorded message.
It was silent after she spoke those words. Neban clenched his fist when he heard them as his thoughts went to Theo and his parents.
One person decided to speak up, and it sounded like Angel’s voice. “And what if we kill you right here?”
The woman gave Angel a creepy smile as she turned towards him, “Then you are nothing but a fool. I am not real; I am only a puppet, a messenger.”
The surrounding people started to whisper about what she told them but quieting down when they saw her moving.
“You should get started soon. The longer they have to wait, the hungrier and angrier they get.” The woman, no messenger, warned before she disappeared.
Everyone guessed that the “they” she spoke of were most likely monsters behind the doors.
No one moved for a few seconds when some people started to walk to the left staircase while the others were walking to the right one.
Neban and his group chose to go to the right one. He noticed that Angel, Luka, and Tessa waited until he picked before silently following him from the corner of his eye. He gritted his teeth at being in the same group with them but did not move because he knew they would only follow.
Noticing Neban’s deteriorating mood, Owain silently asked, “What is wrong?” Wey and Isona heard the question as they looked at Neban.
Neban shook his head, “It is nothing.” He did not feel like talking about the three that were following them. The group did not believe him, but they let it go.
Once the whole group stopped in front of the door, Angel made his way to the top. Luka and Tessa followed him while Angel smirked at him along the way.
When he was at the front, causing others to move back, Angel faced them. “Seeing how I am an SS-level hunter, I will be the leader of this group.”
No one said anything to refute him.
Seeing that no one was going to say anything, Angel smiled before turning back around. He grabbed the door, opening it wide.
A heatwave swept through the group as Neban senses were telling him that there was nothing but danger inside.
Angel walked through as others followed him. “Stay close,” Neban told his group as they walked in.
Once everyone was inside, the door closed behind them. The scene in front of the group was that of a desert. Now, the group could understand why they felt a heatwave.
They walked through the desert, not having a clear direction as there was nothing around. A few minutes passed as some were getting tired from the heat and walking.
A few even started taking pieces of their clothes off for their bodies to have some coolness.
Isona reached into the bag that she had, giving Wey, Neban, and Owain a mini water bottle. The ones near them looked on with envy, getting ready to say something rude. But, Neban glared at them, causing the people to shut up.
The surrounding people were whispering about how they wanted to rest already, but they could not talk about it anymore when the ground started to shake.
“Everyone, stop moving!” Angel yelled as the people abruptly stopped, trying to keep from falling.
A few people stumbled to the ground while others tried to keep their balance. Neban quickly grabbed Wey and Isona, keeping them upright, as Owain held onto his shoulder.
‘The Gefins are coming.’ Siren warned him.
‘What are Gefins?’ Neban asked.
After he asked his question, hundreds of worms came from the ground, causing sand to fall on them as the monsters surrounding them.
The worms were red as they were long and wide like a Dru. They did not have a face, only a mouth that opened wide, showing off many teeth.
The things looked like there was nothing special to them, but when they let out a roar, the ground shook as everyone felt like someone hit them with soundwaves.
The weaker ones of the group fell to their knees while covering their ears. Neban kept Wey, Isona, and Owain from falling as he used [Creation] to make them small earplugs.
He stuck the earplugs in their ears, causing the surrounding sounds to become null to them.
After roaring, the monsters were simultaneously coming towards them as they opened their mouths wide. But, before anything could happen, a hunter moved a few feet ahead of the group.
The man erected a shield that covered the whole group as the monsters slammed down. They could feel the vibration from the hit as cracks were already appearing on the barrier.
The man, who is most likely a Warrior, stabbed his weapon into the hard sand to keep himself from falling to his knees. He was gritting his teeth as the monsters went for another slam against the barrier.
Angel cursed as he turned towards the group, “All A-levels and higher, we are going out there and killing those things. M-levels, protect the others; we will make sure that none come through.”
Angel was already running through the shield with Luka and Tessa following him (the barrier keeps others out while the people inside can leave without problem). At first, no one moved until others started to follow.
‘I want to kill those things and drink their blood.’ Siren said.
Neban looked at his group, wondering if he should. The others looked back at him, giving him an expression that it was okay to leave them. He nodded, handing them his phone as Wey and Isona kissed him on his cheek (the tension between them was still there, though).
He ran out of the barrier as he spoke back to Siren, ‘If you want to feed on the monsters, you need to turn into a weapon.’
Siren huffed, sounding like they did not want to, but agreed nonetheless. Neban pulled his hand from his pocket as a sword appeared in it.
He ran towards one of the worms, swiftly swinging Siren as he cut the monster down in seconds. ‘These things are easy to kill.’ Neban told Siren.
‘That is because they are the weaklings. The darker their red is, the more durable their bodies are.’ Siren answered as Neban cut down two more Gefins with them.
The monsters tried to use their shockwaves on Neban, but it did not affect him. He did not say anything to Siren as he cut down a few more until one worm, which was a darker red than the others, appeared in front of him.
The monster attacked as Neban used Siren to block it. Once the sword and the monster’s skin connected, he noticed that Siren left a swallow cut on it as the skin was harder to slice through.
‘Ah, I see what you mean.’ Neban told Siren as the monster was already backing away before attacking again.
