The Porter is Secretly an SS-Level Hunter - Chapter 79: Together we Stand
The surrounding area turned into an actual playground. But it was like one taken from a child’s nightmare.
The slides, swings, monkey bars, etc., came to life with monster faces and skin melting off. Neban and Siren noticed the mulch rising as something was crawling under it. The thing was making its way towards them.
Neban and Siren moved in opposite directions once the thing popped out of the mulch. They landed back on the ground, making space between them and the monster.
The thing that popped up from the mulch was a Gefin. But the child must have reduced the size of the monster because it was that of a little kid.
The Gefin looked around before locking on their scents. It let out a loud screech.
They wondered why the thing screeched when the surrounding mulch started to move again. But this time, it was coming from multiple spots.
A weapon appeared in Siren and Neban’s hands as they picked themselves to their feet. They moved back, dodging the monsters that tried to catch them.
When they poke their heads out, Neban and Siren quickly cut them down. Once they struck them, the bodies would disappear before two more took their place.
They cursed while the child, watching from the castle with the slide, laughed at them. The child was sitting on top of the castle’s roof, petting the melting skin under them. The roof purred under the child’s touch.
Neban and Siren continued to try and cut the monsters down. Neban even used [Shadow Beam], but the Gefins kept multiplying after death no matter how much they killed.
He clicked his tongue before yelling, “Siren come towards me when I tell you.”
Siren nodded as they cut down more Gefins, dodging the ones trying to bite their legs. Neban used [Shadow Fire] on three of the monsters, seeing how it did not work.
Then he moved to copy a Mage and used [Fire Blast]. When he saw that it did not work either, Neban gritted his teeth because he knew what he had to use.
‘Siren, once I do this, you have to do more of the heavy work to kill the child.’ He told Siren through the mind link.
‘What are you going to do?’ Siren answered back as they slashed another monster down.
Neban did not answer as he took a deep breath before calling, “Siren.”
Taking it as their signal, Siren rushed towards Neban. Once they were near, Neban wrapped his arm around their waist before simultaneously using [Hell Fire] and [Shadow Travel].
Since the room was the same and only under an illusion, Neban used shadow travel in the room to appear somewhere else without a problem.
The fire burned high as Neban appeared next to the child. Except they were on the ground near the slide while the child was on the castle’s roof.
The child stood up in surprise as the fire was not burning out, no matter how much they tried to extinguish it.
The fire was burning everything without stopping as the flames slowly made their way towards the castle.
Since the child was distracted, Neban threw Siren towards them without telling them his plan.
When Siren felt themselves getting thrown, he wanted to complain and glare, but he paid attention to grabbing the child.
Once Siren was close, the child noticed them. But it was too late as they wrapped their arms around the child, throwing them off the castle’s roof.
They landed on the ground, near the incoming fire.
The child’s arms stretched out from the fall due to Siren landing on top of them. Their hand touches the fire, instantly burning as it begins to spread.
They screamed, causing Siren’s face to scrunch in pain as they rolled away, covering their ears. “What the hell, shut up!” Siren shouted.
The child ignored Siren as they tried to stop the fire, but they couldn’t. Once the hellfire touched something, it instantly swallowed it, no matter what it is.
The child began to roll around, screaming on the ground as the flames spread around their body. Siren was still near, watching everything as they kept their hands on their ears to block out the screams.
Neban leaned on the slide, not caring about the gory and moving design as he was breathing hard. ‘Siren, come back here, or the fire will get you next.’ Neban called them.
Siren stood up, running towards Neban before crouching next to him. They noticed Neban breathing hard. They grabbed him, putting his arm around their shoulder as they put him back on his feet.
“Are you ready to leave this room?” Siren asked.
At the same time, the child burnt into nothing; not even ashes remained. Once they were dead, the illusion lifted as the room turned back to normal again.
But the fire remained and only seemed to grow and spread.
Neban could use sub-zero rain to stop the fire while turning himself transparent to avoid the rain (since the child is dead, he is sure Siren can transform again, and he could put them in his sub-space). But he would end up passing out if he did.
So, he decided to let the fire grow.
“We are going to the first floor to tell the others about the fire. And I want to see how the fighting is going.” Neban answered.
“It sucks that we have no head to take with us. And I did not get my meal.” Siren pouted at the end.
Neban rolled his eyes at Siren’s behavior before using [Shadow Travel] to take them to the third floor. He was not familiar with the first floor since he did not enter it. So, he planned to use the elevator.
When they were in front of the elevator, Neban slightly stumbled, but Siren helped him balance.
Neban pushed the down button on the wall as they waited for the elevator to open. When they heard the ‘ding’ sound, they walked in.
In a second, they were on the first floor.
Once the door opened, the sound of fighting entered Neban and Siren’s ears. Neban moved away from Siren, stating that he was fine. He did not want to show weakness in front of others unless it was the people he cared for.
They entered the “battlefield,” watching that the hunters were on the winning side. Although, some hunters suffered. But Angel was talking most of the kills (he is an SS-level like Neban).
A few monsters noticed Neban before rushing towards him. He grabbed Siren’s arm. Understanding what he wanted, Siren turned into a sword.
They were happy that they could transform again.
Once they were near, Neban sloppily cut them down as his body was still feeling sluggish from using hellfire.
But the monsters still went down without a fight.
Neban walked towards the “battlefield” as he let the blood on Siren dripped down on the ground before they absorbed it.
He started to cut down the monsters, helping the other hunters as he would tell them that the building was burning.
The hunters turned pale at what Neban told them before they could thank him for helping them. But they did not leave the building when they saw that Neban stayed to kill the remaining monsters.
Neban ignored that the hunters did not leave when he warned them about the building. He cut down the monsters, barely using his abilities. The deeper he got into the fighting, the closer he was getting to Tessa and Angel.
Once he was near them, Neban pulled out his whip. He struck it towards a monster that was getting ready to hit Angel from behind.
The whip wrapped around the monster’s neck, instantly melting it off as the head hit the ground.
Angel drowned the monster in front of him in a water prison before turning towards the noise happening behind him.
He looked at Neban before glancing at the headless monster on the ground. The man had a shocked expression on his face when it clicked that Neban saved him. It quickly turned into a smirk.
“Do not think anything about it. Only I can kill you.” Neban answered.
Angel’s smirk fell as a frown took its place. He was getting ready to say something, but Tessa jumped into the group, pushing Angel away as she threw out a golem at an incoming monster.
“If you finished talking with each other, we are still fighting,” Tessa added in.
Angel did not say anything as Neban decided to mention, “I started a fire upstairs that will not die until it consumes the building.”
Angel and Tessa looked at him before glancing at the ceiling with a curse. The fire has not shown that it was near, but it was making its way down to this floor.
“Everyone out!” Angel screamed towards the hunters as he used his water to push some monsters back.
Some hunters ran out of the building while others had to fight their way out. Tessa and Angel held back some monsters trying to follow them while walking backward.
Neban walked out of the building, letting them deal with keeping the monsters in the building. But once he stepped outside, he and the other hunters internally swore at the scene in front of them.
The Conla Clan surrounded the building, waiting on them.
