- Chapter 89: The Death of Mother (1)
Mother, already on her feet, rushed toward them. She threw her spear towards Siren.
Siren knocked the spear away with their weapon. “Duck,” Neban spoke next to them. Siren did not question it and ducked as they felt air swooshing over their head.
Mother had another weapon in her hand as she swung towards Siren’s head since they were distracted from the spear. But once Neban spoke, Siren ducked down.
Neban reached over, grabbing her wrist as he squeezed it. A snap sound resonated through the room as Mother dropped her weapon.
They ignored the clattering of the weapon when Mother let out a frustrated scream. “You fucking human!” She yelled, causing an invisible force to push Neban back.
Neban flew back a few steps before stomping his foot into the floor to stop himself. The ground cracked under him. But before he could move forward, ice appeared, surrounding his legs as it trapped him.
Mother laughed until her lips dropped as she moved a step back. Siren sliced a few strands from Mother’s hair since she dodged it.
“How sneaky of you, Perditor.” Mother taunted.
Siren scoffed, “And you know so much about being sneaky.”
They swung their weapon at Mother again, slicing the air as the woman dodged.
Siren kept going as they looked like they were dancing as Mother dodged each swing.
Neban looked at them before hitting the ice surrounding his legs. Cracks started to appear as he struck against it a few more times.
The ice shattered.
Neban shook his legs, getting the remaining ice off as he disappeared. He reappeared behind Mother, stopping her tracks as Siren swiftly changed directions.
Noticing Neban appearing behind the woman, Siren stabbed their sword into Mother’s leg. Then they picked up their leg, getting ready to kick her head when a barrier surrounded Mother.
The barrier pushed Neban away as it almost cut Siren’s foot off.
Mother pulled the sword out of her leg, letting the blood run as it started to heal after a few seconds like her wrist. She threw the weapon on the ground.
The weapon disappeared before it hit the ground and reappeared in Siren’s hand. Siren put the weapon towards their lips, licking the blood off it.
They moaned at the taste, staring Mother down, “Nothing would keep me from finally killing and eating you.”
Mother sneered.
‘Distract her by hitting the barrier.’ Neban told Siren through the mind link.
Siren slammed their weapon against the barrier. “You hit this barrier all you want, but you won’t be able to get in.” Mother laughed as Siren aimed another hit at the barrier.
The barrier shook, but no cracks appeared.
Neban took three steps back as he looked at the shadow under Mother’s feet.
He knew his physical body could not go through the barrier. Neban separated his shadow from him as it moved through the barrier and mixed with Mother’s shadow.
The shadow slowly moved out, stepping behind Mother.
‘When I say “now,” stab your weapon forward into the barrier.’ Neban instructed Siren.
Siren internally hummed, waiting for the signal.
Neban made his shadow softly grab Mother, making sure she did not feel it. Mother continued to laugh, watching Siren make a fool of themselves as she stayed in the barrier.
Then she felt something touch it, tightening around her arms as it pushed her forward. A part of her body went through the barrier.
‘Now!’
Siren stabbed their weapon through Mother’s stomach once it appeared out of the barrier.
The barrier dropped as Neban’s shadow went back in place.
Mother grabbed the weapon in her stomach, falling to her knees. She laughed harder than before, blood spilling out her mouth.
“How clever. But is it enough to get rid of me?”
The room grew hot as Siren and Neban fell, grabbing their heads. It felt like something pounded against it.
Mother pulled the weapon out, letting it fall to the ground as she stood up. Blood dripped down her outfit while her wound was slowly closing.
She walked away, moving back to her throne as she sat down in it.
Neban and Siren laid on the ground in pain as their heads continued to pound worse than an excruciating headache.
A circle grew around them, keeping them in the area as something started to come out of Mother’s pool of blood between Siren and Neban.
Siren scrunches their face in pain as sweat falls down their face. They crawled towards Neban, grabbing his shoulder before slamming the ground with their other hand.
The pounding on their head let up as they rested on the ground. Neban was breathing hard, wiping the sweat from his forehead. Pain still lingered, but Neban and Siren were feeling better.
Dark red long arms crawled out of the pool of blood, causing Neban and Siren to look. Once the arms were out, they bent up as a head and body appeared next.
The head had no features as its body was skinny and long. The thing was entirely out of the blood, moving its blank face around as it slumped forward. Its long arms hung towards their feet as its hands were claws.
Mother smirked, leaning her head back on the throne. “I need to rest, so have fun with my little pet.” She spoke.
The thing walked forward to where Siren and Neban were still lying; its movements were erratic.
It swung its arm, slamming it in the middle of them. Neban and Siren quickly separated, rolling away from the thing’s swing.
The ground caved in from the slam, showing that the thing had freakish strength.
‘I need you to be my weapon.’ Neban told Siren as he stood to his feet.
The thing was already turning around, looking for life.
‘Fine. But when we kill this thing. I’m not going to be a weapon again.’ Siren responded.
Neban agreed as Siren turned into a sword. Opening his hand, Siren zoomed towards Neban.
Neban grabbed Siren’s handle, holding onto them as the thing noticed the movement. It ran towards Neban as its arms rocked low.
It swung towards him as Neban blocked the hit with Siren. Neban sliced the thing’s hand.
The hand fell to the ground, turning back into a pool of blood. The thing stepped back as a new hand appeared on it.
‘I forgot that it is made from Mother’s blood. Stick me in it, and I will suck it dry.’ Siren commented.
Neban hummed as he rushed at the thing, aiming to stab Siren into its stomach.
But, when he stepped over the blood on the ground, a hand popped out, grabbing his ankle.
Neban could not move forward as the bloody hand held him down. The thing swung its claws at Neban, cutting three lines onto his cheek.
Blood dripped down the wound, falling to his chin as Neban’s darkened eyes flashed. A dark aura started to flow up from his shadow.
His grip tightened on Siren as the lights went dark around him.
Mother, who has been watching, stood up from her throne with narrowed eyes when the area around Siren and Neban turned dark.
She flicked her hand to get rid of the darkness. But nothing happened.
She could not see anything.
Neban picked his foot up from the hand holding him down. He stabbed Siren into the small pool, ‘Here is some blood for you.’
Siren began to absorb the blood on the ground when Neban let them go, leaning half of his body back.
Neban felt the air moving over him as he could see the thing’s arm. It swung again in erratic movements as it could not notice anything in the dark.
Neban continued to dodge the swings as he pulled Siren from the ground when he saw that they finished.
‘Stab me into the thing; it is not like it could see.’ Siren rushed. They wanted more of Mother’s blood as the taste was exquisite.
Neban did not say anything as he tried to get closer to the front. But the thing kept moving its arms like a windmill, not allowing Neban to get near as it attempted to aim at something.
Neban took another step back when he appeared behind the thing, swiftly stabbing Siren into its back.
Siren quickly absorbed the blood as the thing moved around when it started to shrink. A minute passed when the weird thing was entirely gone.
There was no drop of blood in sight as the area remained dark.
Mother clicked her tongue, getting ready to walk towards the shaded area when something grabbed her, slamming her back into the throne.
Neban slammed Mother back into the throne as he stabbed Siren next to her head. A line appeared on Mother’s cheek as Siren turned back into their original form.
They grabbed Mother’s hair, gripping it as they pulled the woman’s head back. Siren put their face in front of hers, “What are your last words, bitch?”
Mother smirked, “You tell me, pet.” She blew fire into their face.
Siren moved back, hitting Neban as they patted the flames from their face. Neban grabbed Siren’s arms as he stepped back, trying to stop Siren from proceeding even more.
Mother stood on her throne as something started to build around her, causing the lights to flicker. “No one has ever seen my original form. So I decided to award you with exactly that.”
A white light covered her, shining bright as the Siren and Neban shielded their eyes from it.
