The President’s Man - Chapter 139
Xiao Lei clenched her fists when she heard the accusative tone. When she did not do anything, the owner of the voice thought she was giving up and relaxed the hand that was placed on her mouth.
However, instead of giving up, she placed a palm on her fist and elbowed him, hard!
“Ooh!” the owner coughed out from the impact.
Obviously, the owner of the hand was underestimating her.
While she was able to control herself from hitting the woman, she was still too angry to fully calm herself down, so she took the hand and bit it so hard, blood started to trickle down from his hand.
“No!” A familiar woman’s voice could be heard from the background.
Han Ye groaned and pressed a hand down on her shoulder. Using a thumb, he pressed it into the soft part of the back of her neck. When she felt the pain and released his hand, he turned her over roughly and engaged in a staring contest with her.
“What the hell are you doing?!” he snarled in a hushed tone when he saw that she was staring at him with a defiant expression.
When she was about to say something, he glared at her and hissed, “Leave here now until you calm down!”
Xiao Lei wanted to yell at him, but looking at the people who were pointing and whispering, she decided to deal with him later.
“Get lost!” she snarled and pushed him back before running away.
“Hey, thief! Don’t run!” Mrs. Wen yelled. She wanted to give chase but the man stepped in front of her. “Who the hell– You are… Mr. Han?”
“Are you alright?” Angela Zhang asked worriedly when she saw that he was bleeding.
Han Ye stopped her with a smile. “I’m fine.”
He then turned to Mrs. Wen.
Using a clean, white handkerchief that was normally part of his accessory, Han Ye dabbed on the small puncture wounds on the top of his left palm, right under his thumb, while he smiled and asked politely, “I see President Du is busy and can’t take care of the matter here. May I ask what’s happening here? I’m sure you know that fighting is prohibited here. Especially when the kids are still within the compound of the mansion.”
Mrs. Wen told him everything while calling Xiao Lei as a thief and liar. The words she used were less than what one would consider as something that someone with a polite upbringing should say. However, Han Ye remained calm while listening to her talking about Xiao Lei.
Angela Zhang, who was standing next to him, shook her head. She gently tugged Han Ye’s sleeve as she murmured, “I can’t believe Xiao Lei would do something like that. Han Ye, what if she steals from President Du? Would you get into trouble?”
Han Ye heard her but did not say anything.
Once she was done with her explanation, Mrs. Wen said with a feigned worried expression, “Mr. Han, you need to find out how she got in here. Who knows if she’s someone who wants to hurt President Du and his family? It won’t be good if she gets near the children!”
Some of the people around them started to talk and badmouth about Xiao Lei despite not knowing anything. While standing straight with his feet firmly planted on the ground, Han Ye did not realize that his fingers were curled in tightly. He still maintained his smile while facing the two women, whose personalities he was well aware of.
Patricia Lee gasped. “Oh no, the children are in the house! What if she gets upset and hurt the children?!”
That prompted some of the spectators to rush back into the mansion to check on their children. Patricia Lee thought she was successful in hurting Xiao Lei’s reputation and hoped that she could get the woman kicked out.
Ever since Xiao Lei worked at her place, she had disliked her. If not for her husband, she would have gotten rid of that woman on the first day itself.
However, when Patricia Lee looked up at Han Ye’s face, she noticed that despite his smile, there was also a slight hint of anger in his face. She felt so scared that she took a step back.
“Mrs. Wen, I won’t stop you from going after a thief, but the rules of Du Mansion is that everything that happened here should be handled by our internal investigation team. It is inappropriate for you to accuse a woman without enough proof,” Han Ye said calmly and professionally even though he wanted to roll his eyes at her words.
“Mr. Han! We found the necklace in her clutch bag!” Patricia Lee added. When Han Ye glanced at her, she stepped behind Mrs. Wen and murmured, “And I can vouch that she’s indeed a thief!”
“Mrs. Wen, Mrs. Lee… If you are sure that she is a thief, then… Let’s go to the surveillance room.” He pointed to the cameras that were hidden among the trees and said, “This is Du Mansion. No one can steal anything here without getting caught.”
With a scarily cold smile, he added, “No one can wrongly accuse another as well… Let’s go, shall we?”
The people agreed, but for some reason, Patricia Lee and Mrs. Wen started to sweat profusely while their eyes shifted around nervously.
“Let’s go, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Wen,” Han Ye said with a smile while he gestured for them to walk.
Mrs. Wen chuckled nervously. “N-No, that’s not necessary. We shouldn’t push her to her end. I’ll forgive her this time…”
She looked at her friend Patricia and added, “Right?”
“Mrs. Lee?” Han Ye said with a smile as he looked at the chubby woman.
Patricia Lee gulped and shook her head vigorously. She checked earlier and thought that the bar table where Xiao Lei placed her bag was at the mansion surveillance cameras blind spot, but never had she thought that there would be surveillance cameras in the trees as well. She was here to represent her husband.
If something were to happen here, her husband would never forgive her.
Chuckling nervously, she said, “I probably see wrongly… Now that I think about it, the person I saw was wearing a sleeveless dress.”
“Cheh!” most of the spectators groaned collectively and walked away.
“I thought so,” Han Ye said dryly. After most of the spectators left, Han Ye stopped Mrs. Wen and Mrs. Lee from leaving.
“Yes, Mr. Han?” said both ladies in unison. Their voices were trembling slightly when they thought about how Han Ye could easily destroy their husbands’ companies despite being only a mere personal assistant.
“Do you know who Xiao Lei is?” Han Ye asked calmly.
When they shook her head, he smiled and said, “She’s my secretary.”
Both of them gulped as Han Ye leaned forward and whispered, “The contracts between Du Corporation with your husbands’ companies are ending this year. I think it’s better for you to tell your husbands to partner with other companies.”
“You can’t threaten us!” Mrs. Wen said, yet her voice was uncertain. Her husband often praised Han Ye and how he wanted to have a “Han Ye” as his secretary as well. Everyone was also well aware that President Du looked highly upon Han Ye and took his view more seriously than the views of the directors of his company.
This time, he dropped his smile and spoke in a cold voice that he rarely used.
“Try me.”
