The President’s Man - Chapter 141
She rolled her eyes. With a disgruntled expression, she sneered, “Yeah, sorry about that, but I’m just a street rat. I don’t know your fancy words! Maybe you should hire someone else as your secretary!”
Han Ye sighed. He could tell that she was really hurt by his words earlier, especially since he now knew that she knew who he was the whole time.
He thought for a moment and rearranged his words before he explained, “Look, it’s not that I don’t let you use those words. Those women probably deserve each and every one of your colorful words… But this is not the street or even our apartment. This is President Du’s house… and you’re not here as a guest.”
“Then what should I do? Let them bully me?” she yelled at him, tears brimming in her eyes. “I didn’t do anything! If I want to steal from them, they won’t even know what hit them!”
“No. You wait for me to handle it for you.”
Xiao Lei wiped her tears away and hissed, “I’m not a weakling who needs a prince charming to come out and clean up my mess.”
“But you’re not trained in dealing with matters like this delicately. Xiao Lei, you have to remember something. This is not the street, and you can’t settle everything with your fists. You’re here as my secretary, as an employee of Du Corporation. Your behavior and how you handle things affect the company. When you’re at a fight with those women, the last thing to do is to get angry. Once you get angry, you’ve already lost half the battle.”
She knew that he was right, but she still felt upset about it. It was like no matter what, no one would hear what she had to say. With a choked voice, she murmured, “I just… I hate it…”
Han Ye narrowed his eyes and asked, “Did you steal from that woman before? The one that you worked for before.”
She sniffed and wiped the rest of her tears away. With a deep sigh, she nodded. “Yeah…”
Han Ye did not say anything and worried that he might think badly of her, Xiao Lei quickly added, “But that’s her husband’s fault!”
“Why?” he asked curiously.
Xiao Lei looked at her fingers for a while before she mumbled, “He touched me.”
Han Ye frowned. “What?”
“He touched me… a few times.” She sighed and said, “I wanted to break his fingers, but I can’t…”
She stood up angrily and slapped the table with her palms. With a raised voice, she said, “If it were the old days, I’d have broken all his limbs!”
She then sighed and sat back down. “That job paid on a monthly basis, and it happened in the last week… Before that, he merely looked at me wrong. I couldn’t just run off then. Otherwise, my effort would be useless. Yunjie was unwell then, and we don’t have any insurance, so money was tight and I had to save wherever I can. So, on my last day, after I got my salary, I called the middle guy and asked his help to help me get another house to work for. Once he agreed, I left…
“I was still angry, of course. I can still remember his feeling on my…” She broke off and glanced at her b.r.e.a.s.ts before shaking her head. She then continued, “I broke in a few hours later and stole her stuff. I turned off her surveillance cameras before I left, and I knew that none of them would actually check it during the day… and I also happened to know that they are attending a dinner that night…”
She chuckled and looked at him. “They were… dumb. I know all of their house door passwords.”
“But they still knew…” Han Ye smirked.
Xiao Lei frowned. “I think there’s some kind of nanny cam somewhere… or knowing that b*stard, a perv cam. You know, I never used their toilets because I didn’t feel safe at all. That was why I only did one month there.”
She looked at him and said, “Or maybe she lied about the address… I bet her husband told her to give it up.”
“Why?”
She giggled and said, “I took videos of him harassing me, and I warned him before I left. Then I kept it for the future…”
Knowing what she kept it for, Han Ye laughed. “Blackmail material?”
Xiao Lei blushed. “I was young!”
Han Ye gave her a wry grin as he thought, “That mischievous nature of hers never changed.”
He looked at her and instead of saying anything, he just reached over to pat her on the head. Now that he knew her identity, she was no longer the funny neighbor of his. She was that younger friend of his that he had to look after all over again.
With his hand still on her head, he pressed it down gently before he said, “Look, if anyone picks on you in the future, just tell them that Han Ye is your boss. I am no President Du, but my name means something to those who are actually somebody in Imperial City. If you get into trouble with someone from the underground world, then just use Callum’s name. His surname… It’s a double-edged sword, but people would be more cautious before they think of doing anything to you.”
Xiao Lei frowned. She looked up and asked curiously, “Why do you always pat my head?”
