The President’s Man - Chapter 304
After Xiao Lei and Xiao Zhihao left for home,
In a car parked near the sandwich store, the driver, who was a woman, looked at the tired-looking man beside her
“Happy now?” she asked in a quiet voice, seemingly afraid that she might accidentally hurt him by speaking too loud.
“Erm…” the man responded as he kept his eyes on the director where Xiao Lei and Xiao Zhihao left. “He saw me…”
“It’s all your fault, Murong Yu… Why did you go out of the car earlier? Thank God he didn’t see where you were heading…” the woman sighed. She was Li Li, Xiao Lei’s old friend as well as Murong Yu’s lover. She gently patted Murong Yu’s hand and said, “Please go and get treated… You can see them all you want once you get better.”
Even though she wanted to be the only one in his eyes, she would give up everything just to see him get better. Other than Xiao Yunjie, he was the only man who had treated her kindly and without any reservation. She really did not want to see him suffer like this.
“There’s no use…” Murong Yu mumbled weakly. He appeared to be a lot weaker compared to the last time when Xiao Lei confronted him. His cheeks were slightly caved in, and there were eye bags on his face, marring his otherwise handsome features. “My sun…ses…”
Li Li quickly located his sunglasses before passing it to him. “Your eyes are hurting?”
“I’m just tired… Let’s go home,” Murong Yu said before closing his eyes. His time was running out fast. The attacks were coming in more and more frequently. His vision was getting poorer as well, and he was afraid that one day, he might not be able to see Xiao Lei and Xiao Zhihao’s faces again. That was why, despite the fact that there were lots of guards around them, he still wanted to come and see them for possibly the last time.
He knew that Xiao Zhihao had been going to his old apartment quite often, and he knew from his men that the boy always spent some time outside his apartment alone. On many occasions, Murong Yu wanted to go and find Xiao Zhihao, but he did not dare to do so.
He did not know what he would say to the boy, or what he should say to him. Should he say, “Hi, so your mum told you? Yeah, I got close to you to scare her…” or “Hey, nah, don’t believe your mum… She’s just paranoid…”?
“I’m so sorry…” Murong Yu mumbled under his breath as he thought about the time he spent with Xiao Lei and Xiao Zhihao. Xiao Lei abandoned him, and he abandoned Xiao Zhihao at a time that the boy needed him… “Am I really a monster?” he thought to himself.
His brother, the real Murong Yu, warned him against getting too close to Xiao Zhihao… and Murong Yu regretted not listening to his brother’s warning.
In actuality, getting close to Xiao Zhihao was never in the plan. Murong Yu wanted to hurt Xiao Lei for abandoning him, but he did not want to hurt her too badly, because no matter what, his feeling for her was real and it had never faded despite her betrayal.
So, he just wanted to scare her and leave. Possibly by tricking Xiao Zhihao away and giving her the scariest experience of her life. It was stupid, but Murong Yu’s brain had stopped working normally anyway.
However, he could never bring himself to hurt the boy in any manner, especially after he got to know Xiao Zhihao better. He realized that he really liked the boy. And the more he talked to the boy, the more reluctant he was to continue with his plan.
In fact, if things had turned out the other way, he would have resigned from Imperial High properly and given the boy a proper closure.
Unfortunately, the proper closure might never come.
…
Not long after she started driving, she mumbled while looking at the rearview mirror, “There are people following us.”
“As expected…” Murong Yu replied without even opening his eyes. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and took out his phone. After pressing “1”, he switched on the speaker.
The moment the line was connected, without even waiting for so much as a “hello”, Murong Yu said, “There are people following my car. Get rid of them.”
“Yes, boss!”
Murong Yu then ended the call. He then said to Li Li, “Drive normally. Safety first. The others will get rid of them.”
“Mm…” Li Li said as she glanced at the cars following behind them.
….
At Han Ye’s apartment,
“F*ck! What do you mean the car is gone?!” Han Ye snapped. “Find the car! Locate them! I want to know Murong Yu’s position as soon as possible!”
When he ended the call, he went to Lu Ziyan’s room and knocked. “Ziyan, are you free?”
“Erm… Yeah, come in.”
When Han Ye walked in, he saw the man huddled over his laptop. “Wedding rings?”
“Engagement rings…” Lu Ziyan mumbled as he pinned a few of the engagement rings he liked.
“This quick?”
“Just doing some early research,” Lu Ziyan said with a gentle smile. He then looked up at Han Ye and asked, “What’s up?”
“I need your help,” Han Ye said with a serious expression. “He made his appearance.”
“He?” Lu Ziyan thought for a moment before asking, “Murong Yu?”
He felt that at this point in time, the only “he” that would make Han Ye fidgety was Murong Yu. And as expected, Han Ye nodded.
“He appeared at Zhihao’s school earlier. He didn’t make any contact with Zhihao, but Zhihao saw him.”
“Where’s Zhihao now?” Lu Ziyan asked.
“He’s in the car with Xiao Lei, and they are on the way back at the moment,” Han Ye replied. He then sighed and said, “That man’s action is confusing I don’t know what his real intentions are. Xiao Lei thinks that he’s coming after her, but we couldn’t understand why he didn’t make any moves even after so long. And the thing that bothers me the most, up until now, is Zhihao’s obsession with him.”
“If only Zhihao would talk to me…” Han Ye sighed as he paced around the room. “Am I a bad person, Ziyan?”
“Well, you are planning of… touching his mother inappropriately. So, to him, probably,” Lu Ziyan replied with a grin. When he saw Han Ye staring at him with dead fish eyes, Lu Ziyan quickly cleared his throat and asked in a serious manner, “Anyway, why are you here for real?”
“I know that you’re done with tracking people, but can you please try and see if you can find where Murong Yu is headed? At least the direction… Something for me to narrow down his location with.”
Lu Ziyan nodded. “But not now. Since he dared to get near Zhihao now that he knew who was protecting him, I doubt that he would just leave like that, so don’t worry about it. I’ll give it to you tomorrow morning, or latest by afternoon.”
“Thanks, Ziyan. You’re a lifesaver,” Han Ye said.
