The President’s Man - Chapter 305
Around 11 pm, Xiao Lei went to her son’s room. After making sure that he was asleep, she gently adjusted his comforter before tiptoeing out of her room. She then put on a light jacket before walking out of her house.
The moment she opened the door, she saw Han Ye. He was smiling at her while holding up a takeaway bag.
“Fried chicken, mam, as per your order,” Han Ye said. “Also, a can of beer for me and a carton of milk for you.”
Xiao Lei smirked and closed the door behind her. “Thanks.”
She was studying her script earlier when a craving hits. She was merely complaining to Han Ye about having weird cravings at odd hours, and she didn’t expect him to actually go and buy it, especially not at this hour.
When he asked her to come out earlier, she thought that he just wanted to ask about her day in person.
They went to sit outside Han Ye’s apartment, where he had brought out a small table and two chairs.
“We are eating outside? I’m a famous actress now, what if people recognize me?”
“Ha! I’m probably more famous than you.”
When Xiao Lei glared at him, Han Ye chuckled and asked, “Didn’t you notice that you barely see anyone else on this floor?”
“Erm…” She c.o.c.ked her head. “Now that you mentioned it, yeah… I didn’t really see anyone else…”
“This level has been cleared out,” Han Ye said.
Xiao Lei sat down on a seat. “When?”
“When Phillip confirmed that you are pregnant.”
“Why? That’s a little overboard…”
Han Ye shrugged. “I wouldn’t think so. I think this is the least they can do since you’re carrying their children.” He then pointed to a few units on their floor. “That, that, and that one… The bodyguards that those two hired are staying in those units at the moment.”
“You mean those bodyguards who have been following me around?” Xiao Lei asked. She had had some feelings that she was being followed previously, but her guts told her that the people following her were friendly, and since Han Ye never mentioned it before, she didn’t raise it up either.
“Yeah…” Han Ye nodded. “You wouldn’t even see them most of the time. They are not here to disrupt your days or make you feel like a prisoner. As long as you’re not in grave danger, they wouldn’t act.”
Han Ye quickly set up the table while Xiao Lei picked at the food that was still in its container.
Once they sat down, they started to talk about their days.
“So, enough about me,” Han Ye said after a while. “How about your day?”
Xiao Lei, who was eating her fried chicken with both hands, stopped moving for a second. “Erm… Pretty good…”
“Pretty good?” Han Ye raised a brow. “Are you sure?”
“I finished my scene in two takes… roughly,” she mumbled before choking a little.
Han Ye sighed and immediately handed her the carton of milk. While she was drinking, he gently rubbed his knuckles on against her cheek where she was slapped earlier. “Does it still hurt?”
Xiao Lei slowly put the carton of milk down as she looked at him. “You already knew? No… It doesn’t really hurt.”
“That’s not what I heard. I heard that your face was really red after the first slap.”
“It was fine… Whoever told you was exaggerating… Besides, I taught her a lesson. I doubt she would try it again…”
“That woman, Vivian Siew, is not easy to deal with. I’ve seen her records. Even though she was the female lead in her previous movie, she was extremely mean toward the second female lead just because the director of that movie praised her and that the male lead liked her. Her harassment didn’t end there. She continued to harass that poor girl even after the filming ended, and that second female lead quit the entertainment sector after that,” Han Ye said with a serious expression.
“Oh.”
“Oh? That’s all?” He frowned.
“I’m not afraid of her.”
“And why not?”
She smirked and waved a small chicken drumstick around. “Cause I’m a lot smarter and stronger… and I have you, Callum, Guangying, and in a way, President Du, as my backers.”
“You just need me. Why do you need to mention the rest?” Han Ye mumbled under his breath.
“What?” Xiao Lei asked with a slight frown. “I didn’t hear you.”
“Nothing. Anyway, I don’t like that you get slapped. Why didn’t you use your stunt double?”
“I don’t need to use her yet. I want to be in more scenes, not just in name, but also there, in person…”
Han Ye sighed exasperatedly before popping the tab on the can of beer and drank it.
“Hey, slow down…” Xiao Lei frowned and reached over to pull his hand. When he looked at her, she added, “I would be fine. I know that you’re worried about me, but I don’t want you to protect me more than necessary. I can fight these small battles for myself. If I can’t even do it, how am I supposed to take over Fan Entertainment next time? I can’t always rely on you.”
“Why not?” he asked while staring at her with a pair of sharp-looking eyes.
Upon hearing that, Xiao Lei’s eyes went wide open, and she gulped nervously as she tried to avert her eyes from his intense gaze. “I mean… You won’t always be there. You have to be near President Du.”
Han Ye raised a brow, but he did not say anything about that. He merely pointed at the remaining fried chicken and said, “Finish your food. You need the energy for tomorrow.”
“You know, I’m an actress. Should I be eating so much?” she asked, but she still kept eating without a care in the world.
“Your figure is better than most actresses, don’t worry.”
“Have you been learning how to flirt from someone? Is it Callum?” Xiao Lei asked with a curious expression. “Your words have been quite sweet lately.”
Han Ye’s cheeks turned red slightly. “I’m always this sweet… Besides, that man could barely deal with his own problems, much less guide me on how to talk. Quickly finish your food and go to bed. It’s a long day tomorrow.”
“But-”
She wanted to protest, but before she could say anything, he added, “Eat.”
