The President’s Man - Chapter 308
…
Meanwhile, at a hotel near Xiao Lei’s workplace,
“Ms. Fan! I’ve had enough of that woman! Did you know what she tried to do today? She tried to lecture me on how to act! Me?! Someone who has had more experience in acting than her!” Vivian Siew complained the moment she was let into the hotel room.
“Well, you do need more lessons in acting…” Fan Xiyue said nonchalantly as she read through a work doc.u.ment that her husband sent her. Her husband, Su Wei, could have signed off the doc.u.ment himself, but unlike her father who thought that she was less capable because of her gender, her husband always respected her views and opinions.
“Ms. Fan!” Vivian Siew groaned. “She’s just a newcomer!”
“And the director has been praising her to me,” Fan Xiyue said curtly before putting the doc.u.ment down. She then turned to an angry Vivian Siew and added, “And you, what have you been doing? Takes after takes. You kept making mistakes, delaying everyone’s time and causing the production costs to increase. I have been hearing complaints about you, asking me why an A-list actress from Fan Entertainment couldn’t even act on cue and was constantly distracted by a nobody.”
She leaned forward and placed her chin on her interlinked hands. “Are you intending to embarrass me by making those silly mistakes? Did I anger Ms. Vivian Siew in any way?”
Faced with the accusation, Vivian Siew immediately feigned an upset expression as she stuttered, “I-I…”
Granted, her performance had been less than satisfactory, especially when she had to act alongside Xiao Lei. Every time she saw Xiao Lei, she would remember the humiliation that she felt on the first day, and her state of mind would be affected because of that, causing her to forget about her next lines.
“I’m warning you, Vivian Siew. Regardless of who Xiao Xiao Lei is or what’s her acting experience, as an artist of Fan Entertainment, you are expected to work hard and be your very best. What’s the point of me looking for such a good role for you if you are going to mess it up because of your own jealousy?!”
“But Ms. Fan-” Vivian Siew tried to defend herself.
“Don’t ‘but Ms. Fan’ me!” Fan Xiyue snapped as she slapped a hand down on the table. “Do you think that just because your last movie was a hit that you could talk in such a rude manner to me? Stomping here demanding for me to solve something for you?”
“N-No.”
She narrowed her eyes at the woman standing before her as she warned in a low voice, “Fan Entertainment can bring you up, and it can take you apart as well. Make sure you remember that the next time you try to do something stupid.”
“Yes, Ms. Fan.”
“Now leave. I’ve got some things to deal with.”
Vivian Siew nodded before leaving. She knew that she had crossed some sort of boundaries here.
“If I can’t rely on Fan Xiyue, then I have to do it by myself…” Vivian Siew mumbled to herself angrily as she walked out of the room.
After she left, Fan Xiyue put down her work and went to the wall-to-wall window. Looking out, she wondered who this Xiao Xiao Lei truly was. She had been researching her background, but there wasn’t much that could tell her who that woman was.
Her people found out that Xiao Xiao Lei was newly appointed as Han Ye’s secretary despite having no higher education, or any sort of education, and that she moved to live next to him a couple of months before, even before she became his secretary. Prior to that, like a long time ago, Xiao Xiao Lei was working as a cleaner for various rich households. However, where she was living, who she was with, what else she was doing during the last few years were all still a mystery to her.
Xiao Xiao Lei was pretty quiet when she was working as a cleaner. She rarely talked to anyone, nor did she socialize with anyone. She was always on time, and she would leave on time as well.
And the weirdest thing was, Fan Xiyue could not find anything on Xiao Lei. No medical records, which was odd, because Fan Xiyue’s men told her that Xiao Lei had a son. Where was her son born then? She had gone through the medical records of all the hospitals in the country, but there was nothing on Xiao Lei ever giving birth to Xiao Zhihao.
Fan Xiyue had seen the boy’s photo as well, and for some reason, the boy looked somewhat familiar to her as well.
Fan Xiyue could still remember Xiao Xiao Lei vividly, and that same unease feeling that she had during the Fan Family party was still there, even stronger actually. Her father had the same feeling as well, and she knew that her father, for some reason, had sent someone to do a background search of Xiao Lei. Unfortunately, his men came up with nothing as well.
“Either she did not exist previously,” Fan Xiyue mused as she looked out at the busy street, where humans were moving along like ants, “or someone has covered up her tracks. If so, why?”
After a moment of thought, she walked to her desk and called someone.
“Honey,” she called out the moment the line was connected. “I need help.”
“What?” Her husband replied.
Fan Xiyue could hear typing sound in the background, and she knew that he must be working hard as usual. She wrapped her arms around herself as she asked gently, “You’re pretty close with President Wei, right? Can you help me set up a meeting with one of the actresses in his new film?”
She could have done so herself, but since the CEO position was with her husband, it would be more appropriate for him to set up the meeting.
There was a moment of silence before she heard the typing sound stop. “Why? Xiyue, if this is because one of your actors is having a fight with someone else, then-”
“No,” she interrupted him. “I just want to know more about this person.”
She could hear Su Wei sigh. Fan Xiyue was strict with her actors and actresses, but she was also very protective toward them. She would not allow anyone to pick on her people, and her husband knew this.
After a few seconds, he asked with a resigned tone, “Alright. Who is it?”
“Xiao Xiao Lei.”
“Xiao…” Her husband stopped in his tracks before asking, “The woman that Mr. Han brought over last time? You said you were doing a background search on someone, was that her?”
“Yeah…” Fan Xiyue nodded. “You know, ever since I saw her, I have this feeling that she would bring bad luck to our family… Like a bomb, just waiting to be detonated.” Her volume slowly got lower and lower, as if she was really afraid of letting Xiao Lei’s identity remain a mystery.
“You are overthinking this. She’s just another woman. Maybe she’s Mr. Han’s woman, but even so, there’s nothing to be afraid.”
Fan Xiyue shook her head as she spoke into the phone, “I have a feeling that she is more than that. Call it a woman’s intuition, but with the way she looked at us and how she talked to my father… It’s like… She’s here to reclaim a debt.”
Upon hearing her, Su Wei sighed. He could not debate back if she used a term like “woman’s intuition”. It would only lead them into another fight. “Alright then. I’ll see what I can do.”
“Oh, don’t say that it’s a meeting with us.”
“Another feeling of yours?”
“Yeah… I’m sorry, Su Wei…” She felt bad for dragging her husband into this.
“You don’t have to apologize for this,” Su Wei said in a gentle voice. “You’re my wife, so I’ll definitely get this small thing done for you. Quickly wrap up everything and come back.”
