The President’s Man - Chapter 325
“Hey…” Callum muttered as he walked into his apartment. His arm was in bandages, and there were two bandaids on his face from where he received some cuts and the huge purplish bruise on his left chin had left quite a mark on his otherwise ruggedly handsome face.
“You…”
Callum looked at Han Ye, who was sitting at the floor right outside Luo Guangying’s room. Next to him was Xiao Lei, who had fallen asleep with her head on Han Ye’s shoulder.
“What happened here?” Callum asked in a soft whisper. “And why are you guys on the floor? Is Guangying alright? Are you guys alright?”
He asked the last question because Han Ye had a light bruise on his right cheek.”Did you get into a fight with him?” he asked worriedly, hoping that Luo Guangying was fine.
Upon being reminded of his bruise, Han Ye narrowed his eyes at him in an annoyed manner before sighing. He then gently woke Xiao Lei up as he explained, “He went nuts when he woke up, which I’m sure you would know. So, she threatened him by sitting here. If he opened the door, he would hit her without fail…”
They stood up, and Han Ye continued, “And you know how much he hates to hurt women, especially the one who is carrying his children…”
Xiao Lei rubbed her sleepy eyes and mumbled, “I think he woke up about an hour earlier, and when we stopped him from going out, he got into a fight with Han Ye.”
She looked at Han Ye’s bruise and sighed before looking back at Callum, who was in an even worse state. At least, Han Ye only had a bruise. Callum, on the other hand, smelled of blood, and by the sight of his bandaged arm, that bloody smell probably came from him.
When Han Ye texted her and asked her to drop by Luo Guangying and Callum’s shared apartment with him, he did not tell her anything, just that Callum had to do something at his grandfather’s house and that he wanted them to accompany Luo Guangying while he was gone.
When she saw how agitated Luo Guangying was earlier, she knew that whatever Callum was about to do at his grandfather’s house must have been something bad. She had never seen Luo Guangying in such a disarray state before. He was like a mad man, trying to push past Han Ye to leave the apartment, even hitting him.
And he nearly did, had it not for Xiao Lei blocking his way and Han Ye wrestling him back into his room.
And looking at the state Callum was in now, Xiao Lei could somewhat understand why Luo Guangying was so adamant at going after Callum. She could tell that Callum must have gone through some sort of a battle at his grandfather’s house and that Luo Guangying had expected Callum to get hurt at that place, perhaps even killed if something were to go wrong.
“Have you done what you went out to do?” Xiao Lei asked in a gentle voice as she looked at Callum’s bandaged arm.
Callum noticed where her eyes were at, and he immediately nodded and reassured her, “Yeah, and I’m fine, so don’t worry too much. I just got a nick in my arm.”
“A nick?” Xiao Lei thought. “What kind of a nick was that? To the point of having to be bandaged in such a manner?”
“Anyway,” Callum mumbled as he scratched the back of his head with his good hand. “Thanks a lot, Han Ye, Xiao Lei. I won’t forget about this.”
“Hey, you’re the father of my children. Of course I have to help you,” Xiao Lei said with a warm smile as she reached over to pat him.
“You’re not the father of my children, so you owe me one,” Han Ye said from behind Xiao Lei in a dry tone as he rubbed his bruised cheek. “Anyway, our work here is done. We are going to go back now.”
Xiao Lei glanced at Han Ye for a second before looking at the room door. She then asked Callum with a concerned expression, “Can you handle it by yourself? Do you want us to stay here?”
She was curious about a lot of things. Up until this morning, she had thought that they were in a cold war, but while on the way over, she found out from Han Ye that they had somehow reconciled but everything was in a complicated situation. When she asked more, Han Ye said that he hadn’t caught up with everything yet, so he did not want to tell her in case he misled her.
Han Ye could tell that she wanted to stay and nose about, so he placed a hand on the small of her back as he gently pushed her toward the door while saying, “Come now, Xiao Lei. They are big boys now. They can handle it themselves. Let’s go. We promised the guys that we would go for lunch with them, remember?”
Xiao Lei looked back at Callum and made a “good luck” gesture before going out of the apartment with Han Ye. “Stop pushing me, Han Ye! Hey, watch where your hands are going?!”
The last thing Callum heard was Han Ye’s soft laughter, which was followed by a soft slapping sound. Taking a deep breath, Callum counted to three before opening the door.
Swoosh!
The moment he opened the door, a sharp object was hurled toward him. Thank God he was trained for this kind of sneak attack and could easily dodge it.
PLANG!
While the sound of the object hitting the floor sounded behind him, his eyes were at his attacker.
“Honey!” Callum yelled when he saw Luo Guangying’s bloodied hand and the broken shards of mirror on the floor. Without looking back, he knew that the object he just dodged was a shard from the broken mirror.
Distraught, Callum immediately rushed forward and took Luo Guangying’s hand. “What did you do to yourself?” he snapped angrily as he checked out the condition of Luo Guangying’s right hand. “How many good hands do you think you have?! Why did you do this?!”
“You idiot!” Luo Guangying yelled as he hit Callum’s chest. “Why did you do that for?! What if your grandfather took you away from me? Do you know how worried I was?! How could you?!” he yelled as he continued to hit Callum’s chest.
His punches were like marshmallows to Callum. Callum let Luo Guangying release his anger for a while before hugging him. “I’m sorry, alright? I shouldn’t have done that, but I didn’t want you to get hurt, and I didn’t want you to see anything there,” Callum said with a soft voice.
Luo Guangying tried to get out of Callum’s hug, but the latter refused to release him. Even with one hand, Callum managed to keep Luo Guangying in his hug.
“I kept thinking! That something bad must have had happened to you! That I would never be able to see you again! Why did you leave me behind? Why!” Luo Guangying yelled angrily as tears fell down his cheeks, and his fists kept hitting the back of Callum’s body.
He was ashamed of himself for being such a crybaby, but when he woke up and noticed that Callum was gone earlier, he had been extremely scared out of his mind and all kinds of scenarios played themselves in his mind.
So when he heard Callum’s voice over the door just now, he felt immediate relief, following which was a burst of anger and frustration over his inability to do anything. He hadn’t meant to hurt himself. It was just that when he picked up the shard, which was accidentally broken during the scuffle with Han Ye earlier, all he could see was red, and he did not even feel the pain when the shard stabbed into his palm.
“I was… scared…” Luo Guangying cried as he finally hugged Callum back. “I thought I was left behind again…”
