The President’s Man - Chapter 339
…
When they walked to the car, Han Ye gently knuckled Xiao Lei on the forehead while showing her an irritated expression.
“Ouch!” Xiao Lei frowned while rubbing her forehead. She looked up at him and asked in an irritated tone, “What was that for?”
At the same time, she tried to reach up and knuckle him back, but since he was taller, he caught her hands easily.
“Stop it… That was for not texting me the moment she appeared,” Han Ye said in a displeased tone. He glanced down at her scratched hand and asked, “What if she hurt you more than this?”
Xiao Lei looked at the bandaid on the back of her hand and shrugged. “This is nothing…”
“I don’t like it,” Han Ye muttered as he released her hands. He then sighed and said, “Her suspicion has been raised to the max, if she had to resort to doing this. Otherwise, she could have just invited you to an outing openly.”
Xiao Lei agreed as they got into Han Ye’s car, where Assistant Yoon was now sitting in the driver’s seat.
“Is my suspicion right?” Xiao Lei asked Assistant Yoon the moment she closed the door. She had suspected Fan Xiyue from the moment she saw the woman walking toward her and President Wei, and when Fan Xiyue scratched her, Xiao Lei’s alertness was raised to the max. Hence, she had secretly texted Assistant Yoon and asked the woman to follow Fan Xiyue.
Assistant Yoon nodded. She then looked at the bag on the passenger’s seat. “I managed to get it before the man could run away.”
Han Ye looked between the two women before smiling with a knowing glance. He then asked the assistant, “Did you raise any suspicion?”
Assistant Yoon shook her head. “I disguised myself as a robber, and I took his everything, including his wallet. I’ve placed everything in the bag as well, if you want to check on his identity later.”
Xiao Lei nodded in satisfaction. “That’s a good idea. Even if he reported it, it wouldn’t be linked to us. And I don’t think he would report it since it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to be noticed by others as people might start asking questions, and I doubt Fan Xiyue would want him to get involved with the police, in case things get pointed in her direction.”
“Drive, Yoon,” Han Ye said before raising the blinder between the front seats and back seats so that he could have some privacy with Xiao Lei. Once the blinder was fully up, he looked at Xiao Lei with a softer gaze; one that was least of a boss and more of a lover.
“I’m surprised you could think of this…” Han Ye said as he interlinked their fingers together. “I was surprised and somewhat confused when Yoon told me that she got a bag. I didn’t have time to ask much about it, but it looks like you managed to stop her from getting your DNA.”
Xiao Lei rolled her eyes in an exaggerated manner before pouting in dissatisfaction. She raised her chin and dared Han Ye to answer her next question wrong. “Did I look that dumb to you? I wouldn’t survive for this long on my own if I didn’t know a trick or two.”
“Yes, you’re the smartest,” he said with a smirk as he patted her head, which caused her to frown even more. When he saw her annoyed face, he laughed softly before a matter raised itself in his head. “Oh… Um… I need to talk to you about something.”
“What?” Xiao Lei asked as she tried to wrestle his hand away from her head. “And stop patting my head! I’m a grown woman with a teenage son!”
Han Ye could not help but smile as he put his hand down. He did not have that many chances of touching her because of both their works, so he tended to be a little touchy when they actually had some time together.
However, today, he had to be a little serious. After clearing his throat, he said in a sheepish manner, “It’s about your son.”
“Why? Is Zhihao alright?” she asked worriedly as she stood up straight. “Didn’t you guys went for dinner earlier? Why are you here without him?”
“That’s the thing that I want to talk to you about,” Han Ye mumbled. “We didn’t actually go for dinner… Well, we ate something, but that wasn’t the reason why I went to pick him up.”
“Then what?” Xiao Lei asked as she narrowed her eyes at him, wondering what he was trying to say.
“Zhihao got into a fight at school,” Han Ye replied after a moment of hesitation.
“What?!” she snapped as she grabbed onto his shirt. “Is he alright? Is he injured? Where is he now?”
Han Ye grabbed her hands and put it on the seat between them gently. “Calm down, he’s fine… The other kids weren’t that fine…”
“What?” She blinked in confusion as she tried to make sense of his words. Her son was in a fight… but the other kids weren’t fine? Kids? As in plural? This did not sound like her mild-mannered son at all…
Han Ye tried to think of words that he could better use to describe the situation, but in the end, he decided to tell her the truth. “Zhihao kind of… went berserk… I think he inherited your fear of needle strength, and he hurt those kids quite badly. Granted, they deserved it…”
“Tell me everything!” Xiao Lei demanded as she stared at him.
Han Ye nodded and proceeded to tell her everything, from the beginning to the end.
“Why didn’t he call me? Why did he call YOU?” she asked in shock as she pointed to herself. “I’m his mother!”
“And he probably doesn’t want you to see him in that state. He was pretty much banged up as well, and knowing you… You know Zhihao. He has always thought of himself as the man of the house, and he probably didn’t want you to worry too much about him,” Han Ye said as he tried to comfort her. “And don’t worry. I took him to the hospital for a proper check. His wounds are mostly superficial, and there’s nothing serious.”
Xiao Lei sighed exasperatedly as she leaned back in the leather seat. “What’s wrong with him…”
“He has pent-up anger issue… and we talked earlier… I think he’s ready to talk to a psychologist about it…” He then looked at her and said, “Don’t fuss over him too much when you get home later. He took some medicines earlier, so he would probably be asleep by the time we reach the apartment. Don’t wake him up, and don’t go to his room. Just give him tonight off…”
“He’s my son!” Xiao Lei protested.
Han Ye comforted her patiently, “He needs some time to himself. And I don’t think he would want to talk about anything NOW. Talk to him tomorrow…”
Xiao Lei thought about it, and after a little struggle between her sane self and her motherly side, she nodded reluctantly. “Fine.”
After a while, she sighed and shook her head. She pushed the thought aside and looked up at Han Ye before sitting closer to him. With her head on his shoulder, she said in a small voice, “He called you, huh?”
Han Ye smiled and nodded. “What to do… I’m quite a charming man…”
