The President’s Man - Chapter 361
At the garden, after Xiao Lei greeted everyone that she knew, Kai Xin introduced Xiao Lei to her grandmother, who was playing with Little Monkey.
“Nai Nai, this is Xiao Lei. Han Ye’s girlfriend.”
“Madam President Du!” Xiao Lei gasped.
Kai Xin chuckled, and as she passed Wyatt to Old Madam Zhen, she continued to tease Xiao Lei, “Oh, did I get it wrong then? Han Ye said you are his wife-to-be, but I thought he’s just joking.”
Xiao Lei’s cheeks turned red, and she glared at Han Ye for running his mouth. Unfortunately for her, Han Ye merely smirked and pretended to be innocent.
Old Madam Zhen chuckled when she saw Xiao Lei’s flushed looks. She then gestured for Xiao Lei to bend lower so that she could see her better. When Xiao Lei got down on a knee next to the chair that Old Madam Zhen was sitting in, the old woman smiled and said, “I’m sorry about this. I’m getting on age and it’s a little hard for me to get up sometimes.”
Xiao Lei smiled and said, “It’s fine… I don’t mind. How are you, Mrs. Zhen?”
“Just call me Old Madam Zhen. Mrs. Zhen are my daughter-in-laws.”
Xiao Lei nodded. “Old Madam Zhen.”
“Xiao Lei! Look!” Little Monkey said loudly as she pointed to the bunny ears that she forced onto Mo Yuan. “Yuan Yuan is a rabbit!”
Mo Yuan pouted. “No!” He wanted to take it off, but when he saw Little Monkey’s lips quivering, he sighed and nodded. “Rabbit…”
Looking at those two, Xiao Lei could not help but laugh softly. Obviously, the hierarchy had been set here. “Very cute. You’re a very manly rabbit, Yuan Yuan.”
When he heard the word “manly”, Mo Yuan cheered up again, and he no longer disliked the rabbit ears anymore.
“These two are so hyperactive… Little Monkey especially,” Old Madam Zhen said with a chuckle. “She’s like Kai Xin when she was young… It’s a good thing that there are so many people here who can take care of her…”
Xiao Lei did not say anything. She merely listened on quietly while the old woman continued to talk. Meanwhile, the rest had gone on to talk to the rest, Han Ye included.
“Xiao Lei,” Old Madam Zhen suddenly asked, “are you happy with Han Ye?”
“What?” Xiao Lei looked at her, surprised that she would be so direct. But then again, she realized that old people were always more direct than young people. Maybe it was because they knew that their time was limited, thus they did not want to drag things on.
“You must be with someone that makes you happy, like my Kai Xin…” Old Madam Zhen said. She then looked at An Qiyan and said in a low voice, “Don’t ever be with someone that you don’t love… You will only hurt yourself…”
Xiao Lei did not really understand it, but she still smiled and nodded. “I’m happy with Han Ye, Old Madam Zhen.”
Old Madam Zhen looked at her and smiled. “Good to know that…” She then asked Xiao Lei to pass her her bag, which was on the table. And when Xiao Lei passed her the bag, Old Madam Zhen asked Xiao Lei to hold Wyatt while she searched inside her bag until she found what she wanted.
“This is for you…” Old Madam Zhen said as she passed Xiao Lei a red packet.
“What?” While holding Wyatt, Xiao Lei looked at the red packet and quickly shook her head. “No… You don’t have to.”
Old Madam Zhen chuckled and said, “I want to. Han Ye has done a lot for my Kai Xin and Little Monkey. Since you’re the first woman he brought to see me, I want to spoil you as well… Besides, it’s nothing much here.”
Xiao Lei looked at the red packet, feeling somewhat conflicted. After all, they just met. Just as she was wondering what to do, she felt a gust of wind, and when she looked to her side, she saw Han Ye was on his knee next to her, smiling down at her.
“Just take it. It’s Old Madam Zhen’s wish…” Han Ye said. He then looked at Old Madam Zhen and said, “She hasn’t received red packets for a while now, so she has forgotten that old people like to give out red packets.”
“You cheeky guy,” Old Madam Zhen laughed. “Treat her preciously, like how Xiao An treats my Kai Xin…”
“Oh, Nai Nai!” Kai Xin, who overheard the conversation, went over to them to stop her grandmother before she further embarrassed those two.
“Yeah, Nai Nai,” DX said, having followed his wife. He took his son from Xiao Lei’s sore arms before adding, “No one can beat me when it comes to loving his wife.”
“Braggart!” Kai Xin laughed as she wrapped her arms around her husband’s waist. “I’m sure Han Ye would be better than you.”
Han Ye did not say anything. He merely stood up and helped Xiao Lei onto her feet before asking her if she wanted to eat.
“Oh, I’m hungry!”
“I’ll go make you a platter,” Han Ye said as he pulled a chair over so that she could sit next to Old Madam Zhen instead of being on her knee the whole time.
Once he walked away, Old Madam Zhen patted Xiao Lei’s knee and said, “I heard about your past from my Kai Xin… and I’m sorry to hear about your late husband.”
Xiao Lei smiled, having come to terms with the loss of her husband. “He’s a hero.”
“Indeed he is,” Old Madam Zhen said. She then added, “You know, you’re a very lucky woman…”
“Why do you say so, Old Madam Zhen?” Xiao Lei asked curiously.
“Many people live their lives without ever finding their soulmates,” Old Madam Zhen said with a smile, “And you found two.”
“There’s no guarantee that Han Ye is my soulmate,” Xiao Lei said with a chuckle as she looked at Han Ye, who was still standing over the food table as he tried to pick the stuff that Xiao Lei loved to eat.
“Qiyan’s boyfriend can help you take a look,” Old Madam Zhen said with a wink. “He might be blind, but he sees more than what we normal humans can…”
Upon hearing her, Xiao Lei looked at Han Ye, who noticed her gaze and smiled back at her as he showed her the mountain of snacks he had piled on a plate for her. She then looked back to Old Madam Zhen and shook her head.
“I think I’ll pass,” Xiao Lei said with a determined expression. “Certain things are better left unknown… What matters most is present… As long as we love each other, even if we are not the destined soulmates, it would be fine.”
Old Madam Zhen looked at her, and after a while, she nodded. “Agreed…”
She looked at her son-in-law and her eldest granddaughter with their two youngest children, with DX trying to ignore Mo Yuan who was running around them, and she muttered, “I wish I can see those kids grow up into a.d.u.l.ts like their parents…”
Xiao Lei looked at them and said, “I’m sure they would… and I’m sure you would be able to see them growing up into fine men and woman.”
