The President’s Man - Chapter 380
When he found Assistant Yoon, the woman was lying in the arms of a restaurant worker, and Han Ye immediately rushed over.
“What’s wrong?” he asked upon seeing Assistant Yoon’s pale face.
The restaurant worker shook her head as she looked at Han Ye. “I’m not sure. I came out to see the commotion and found her on the floor. I think she had too much to drink.”
Han Ye knelt on one knee as he took Assistant Yoon’s pulse. When he felt the erratic heartbeat, he frowned and lightly slapped Assistant Yoon’s face. “Yoon, are you alright?”
Assistant Yoon’s eyes were unfocused as she stared at Han Ye. She moved her hand around, as if she was trying to grab hold of him, and upon seeing that, Han Ye grabbed her hand and said softly, “I’m here. It’s me. Mr. Han. I’ll get you to the hospital…”
Assistant Yoon shook her head slightly, before wincing, as if she was in a lot of pain and discomfort.
“Argh! Blood!” The restaurant worker suddenly yelped when she saw a huge, bright red blood on her apron. She then pushed Assistant Yoon to the side slightly, and that was when she saw the small wound at the back of Assistant Yoon’s head. Alarmed, the restaurant worker was stunned momentarily.
“Yoon!” Han Ye looked at the woman he tasked to protect Xiao Lei, alarmed, as he wondered what had happened to her. “Call for an ambulance!” he yelled at the restaurant owner who had come out with a bowl of cold water. “NOW!”
Assistant Yoon shivered slightly in the restaurant worker’s lap before mumbling, “D… Danger!”
Her voice was extremely soft, almost non-existent, and she wanted to say more, and louder, but her mouth wasn’t doing what she wanted it to do.
“Dan…?” That was all Han Ye heard, and he tried to think of the possible word and what she was trying to say. After a few seconds, Han Ye’s eyes widened when he realized what she was trying to say. “Danger?!”
He immediately glanced over at the direction where he parked his car. From such a distance away, he could not really see his car, but a bad feeling soon welled up in his heart. Slowly, he then stood up as he hoped for the best, that he mistook Assistant Yoon’s words.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of car screeching from the direction where his car was, followed by the sound of shooting, people screaming, and multiple crashes.
Han Ye’s eyes widened when a million negative thoughts started to enter his mind. Without waiting for any longer, he then dashed toward where he left Xiao Lei. However, when he arrived there, all that remained was broken glasses on the ground and tire marks on the road. Two cars were stranded on the road with some of their tires punctured, and based on the marks on those punctured tires, it appeared to have been made by bullets.
One of the cars even had a huge indentation at its passenger seat door, almost as if something had rammed itself against the door, while the other car had a similar indentation at the boot of the car.
Han Ye cursed when he saw that the bodyguards he placed around Xiao Lei had failed their jobs. Overcame with anger, he stormed toward one of the cars before pulling the middle-aged driver, who was now bleeding from his forehead, out onto the street. “How the f*ck did you lose her?!” he yelled as he glared at the driver on the ground. “YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT HER!!!”
The driver shivered upon facing Han Ye’s wrath. “We tried to stop the car by blocking it with our cars, but the guy who took her just rammed into our cars.”
The driver of the other car, who was wearing simple civilian clothing and younger in age, immediately rushed over to defend his teammate. There was a huge cut on his cheek, which was now bleeding down into his shirt. Thankfully, he was wearing a black t-shirt, or it would have been gory to look at. “There were three of them, Mr. Han, and they moved extremely fast! We tried to stop, but we couldn’t open fire wildly, not with Ms. Xiao still in the car!”
When they saw the masked guys moving toward Han Ye’s car, they had been on alert. But those three men immediately took out their guns when they were near the car, and one of them was already shooting at Han Ye’s car.
The bodyguards tried their best to shoot back, but it was hard with Xiao Lei in Han Ye’s car, where one of the kidnappers was already inside with her.
Upon hearing their explanations, Han Ye could not help but yell out in frustration, “ARGGGH!!!”
He then clenched his fists as he tried to calm himself down. After a few seconds, he yelled at the guy with the cut cheek, “Ms. Xiao has a couple of trackers on her. Track her down NOW! And inform Shenlong Xun!”
As the guy took out his phone to call his other teammates, Han Ye hit himself in the thigh hard as he blamed himself for not taking her protection seriously enough. “Please stay safe…” he thought as the image of Xiao Lei smiling at him appeared in his mind. “I can’t lose you again…”
…
As she tended to her sore left elbow, Xiao Lei looked warily at the guy who was now driving Han Ye’s car. She then looked up at the rearview mirror where she saw the state her face was in. There were a couple of small cuts on her cheeks from the flying broken glasses earlier, as well as a bruise on her chin that she received when she accidentally hit it with her own knuckles as she tried to brace herself from the impact of the collision.
It was a good thing that she did not remove her seatbelt after Han Ye left, or she would have been in a much worse state than now. Unfortunately, her belly did not feel that comfortable at the moment.
Not wanting to attract attention to her belly, Xiao Lei tried her best to ignore it. She then glanced at the two other masked guys sitting at the back of the car, where one of them was trying to stop the bleeding on his arm using his bunched-up shirt.
Everything had happened so fast. She was listening to music peacefully when she heard the first shot that came from behind her.
When she yelled and ducked, four more shots came, and the bulletproof glass at the backseat shattered. The next thing she knew, a masked man jumped into the backseat, unlocked the front door as well as the other back door behind the driver seat, and there were a couple of rounds being fired before two other men got into the car.
She wanted to run, but one of them had pressed a gun against her temple just as she reached for the door. It was only when they started driving that the guy removed the gun.
“W-What do you want from me?” Xiao Lei asked nervously as sweat rolled down from her forehead. The guy who was driving glanced at her as blood rolled down from his forehead, but he did not say anything as he turned his eyes back onto the road before increasing the speed.
“Who sent you?” Xiao Lei asked again; this time, her voice was firmer.
“We don’t want to hurt you, Ms. Xiao,” the driver warned in a cold voice as he focused on the road, “but if you leave us no choice, we would have to do so.”
