The Princess’s Doll Shop - Chapter 26
On top of cloth from the Jestah Kingdom, which one could buy a house with a bolt of, was embroidery with top-of-the-class gold and silver thread hanging a plethora of jewels that were larger than Kathia’s eyes.
“My, my, your Majesty!”
There was one more thing that was burdensome. It was the bootlicking by Madame Rita, who was in charge of Kathia.
“I do not want to use expressions of beautiful nor glowing. You are absolutely perfect. No— it is insufficient to say perfect. If a fairy of beauty exists in this world, it would take after Your Highness’s looks for sure!”
The hottest and trendiest designer in the kingdom was currently staring at the face of the princess as if drinking her beauty in, spurting out compliments.
As that happened, Kathia could only laugh awkwardly. Because truthfully, she didn’t think much of her own beauty.
To give a more elaborate excuse, being born for the second time and having her mother as Hannah, she didn’t have high standards for beauty.
“Mm.”
After being suffocated by Madame Rita for so long, the only thing Kathia could do was tilt her head in front of the mirror alone often.
In the mirror, a girl with a pale complexion was blinking her eyes with an effort.
This is pretty?
No matter how much she looked, she still wasn’t sure. One thing she knew for sure was that her mom was the most beautiful in the world.
Of course, Hannah and the maids always gave her compliments about her beauty, but Kathia never thought much about them because she regarded it as just flattery.
Well, Madame is simply exaggerating since I’m a princess and her client. And being the daughter of such a beauty, I can’t be that ugly under those circumstances.
Kathia didn’t have high standards for beauty, so she just came to a lukewarm conclusion.
“Look, Your Highness! Please look at this masterpiece created by this Rita’s very body and soul!”
The morning of the debutante ball, Madame Rita, who had excessively pushed Kathia for fitting and other things until the very end, presented the finished dress with an exhausted but proud face.
Then, even the maids bound by their oath of silence couldn’t restrain themselves and spoke out in admiration.
“Although I contemplated until my head almost exploded as to make the dress pink in order to match Your Highness’s hair color or make the dress blue to match your light blue colored eyes… It only made sense to create a pink dress with a full skirt for the debutante! Even so, I could not give up on the color of your eyes, so I put blue ribbons and frills here and there to match, as you can see. Well, what do you think? Is this not a lovely pastel-toned dress that perfectly suits you, Your Highness?
The wide-eyed Kathia bobbed her head. Even for Kathia, who didn’t have much preference for beauty, it was a jaw-droppingly beautiful dress.
It was like a Barbie doll dress.
The type of dress that she could find in the center of the spotlight spinning on the display after Barbie haughtily walked in and opened the closet door.
This may be the best comparison and compliment that Kathia could express.
While being careful of any jewels falling off and messing up the cloth, she wore the dress in a careful manner and heard outbursts of “ooh’s” and “aah’s.”
Of course in the midst of it all, the most expressive was Madame Rita.
“Urgh. It far exceeded my expectations. If I were to die now, I’d have no regrets…”
While Madame Rita clenched her chest, she ran towards Kathia again with eyes ablaze. The reason was finding matching heels and accessories with help from the maids.
Her heels were decided rather quickly. The dark satin heels with diamonds gifted from the emperor were a good match for Kathia and the dress.
The problem fell on the accessories. The biggest problem of the era was to pick an accessory that will compliment Kathia while not getting lost in the dress.
They kept repeatedly trying countless jewels on Kathia’s body like they robbed the Imperial Treasury in its entirety.
Nearing the moment her ears, neck, wrists, and fingers were about to get worn down, Madam Rita and the maids were still trying to negotiate the most reasonable common ground.
