The Pursuit Of Power - Volume 1 Chapter 46 It Broke?
(A/N: We are currently at rank 130 on the Power Stone Rankings, you guys have voted 118 times but to get to rank 100 we need to get more than 170 votes! As an apology for confusing you guys, the next chapter will be twice the length anyway.)
“Okay, let’s start the testing.” Woo Jin-Chul’s slicked-back orange hair shined under the light of the room as he noticed Yuuki looking towards him with an inquisitive gaze which he understood.
“Just step forward and place your hand on the Mana-Measuring Device and wait.”
Looking at the black crystal before him, Yuuki nodded his head and did as Jin-Chul said.
“Chairman…” Looking up with a glint in his eyes, Jin-Chul gulped in nervousness.
Steadily walking to the man’s side, the Chairman’s eyes lit up and appraised Yuuki in a new light. His mouth opened.
At this moment, he heard a commotion coming from outside from the other testing room. Yuuki popped his head out of the door and saw Jin-Woo not far away.
Waving at him, Yuuki caught his attention before he was yoinked back into the testing room by Jin-Chul.
“Waaah!” He yelped as he stood up and rubbed his butt from the fall onto the floor.
“Sorry about that, you need to continue speaking with the Chairman.” Jin-Chul rubbed his chin with his left hand before it left his face and went behind his back with his other hand.
“Chairman, you’re an S-Rank right? Actually… Nevermind. It doesn’t matter.” Yuuki had thoughts of releasing the cloak on his Mana which would allow others senses to see how strong he was. The extravagant display would then attract too much attention and would incite others to believe there was a massive danger so he shrugged and ignored his previous thoughts.
Go Gun-Hee’s curiosity was halted as he ignored whatever Yuuki was also about to say.
“Let’s go to a better place to talk. Yes?” Inquiring politely, the 80-year-old Chairman with the body of a pro-wrestler led Yuuki to an office after he nodded in reply to the Chairman’s question.
—
“Don’t I need to come back in three days now?”
(A/N: The spontaneous aspect of my writing messed up the previous chapter along with this one too. It would have been better for them to meet after Yuuki was tested by some normal staff and not Woo Jin-Chul and the Chairman. Nonetheless, I will go with the flow and try to fix it kinda. If only I could turn back time. Sigh.)
“No, take a seat. I assume you have heard this happen before, correct?”
“Yes, whilst in Japan, I saw one of the S-Rank Hunters being found a couple of years ago. The same things happened where the Device could not detect his Mana properly and then he was revealed as Japan’s 20th S-Rank Hunter 3 days later. It also just happened in the room across from where I was tested.”
“Well, to tell you the truth, there is no need for that. A precise detector is to help us- what!? Was that why you looked out the door?” Grinning excitedly like a child, the amicable old man coughed before sitting back down in his chair as he had leaped out of it in excitement. Along with him, Woo Jin-Chul seemed to barely maintain his calm expression as a glint in his eyes revealed his true emotions.
“This means that Korea has gained two S-Rank Hunters in one day! HAHA SUCK IT JAPAN! Ahem! Sorry about that, my excitement overwhelmed me.” Yuuki could not help but smile at this funny old man who did not act his age occasionally.
“Anyway, as I was saying previously, a precise detector is to help us segment the results. It’s not a tool to help us measure outside the scoping range. Even if it was possible to scope past the current range, it would still be impossible to distinguish between A S-Rank, SS-Rank, or SSS-Rank.”
“So the re-testing procedure?” Yuuki curiously inquired.
“It’s to buy us time.” Simply stating the answer, he got Yuuki to think about it. “It buys us the time to meet with S-Rank Hunters like you before anyone else can. As you may already know, the Hunter Association does not have many talented Hunters such as Chief Woo Jin-Chul.
“Who would want to join the Association when the top guilds can guarantee Hunters great fame and large salaries? There are people out there who can name every Core Member of the top Guild’s Raid Team but there are not many who know our Chief Woo Jin-Chul even though he is at the top among A-Ranks.
“I’ll get straight to the point,” looking Yuuki in the eye, the Chairman smiled and leaned forward. “Since we are not an enterprise we cannot promise you a lot of money.
“But.
“We can help you go down a different path.”
“…what do you mean?”
“We can help Hunter Satoshi flourish on a different path.
“This country is being run by the Hunters and not the government. What can they do against the power that is held by the Hunters? Nothing. The Hunters are above the Government and us, the Association is above the Hunters.
“We’ll help you to stand shoulder to shoulder with us.”
‘So he’s offering authority rather than money and fame. I expect that this great geezer has a lot of places that his power can reach. He’s amazing.’
“Why are you offering this to me?” This was one thing he did not understand.
Inhaling before exhaling deeply, the Chairman continued. “You are aware of the Top 5 Guilds correct?”
