“The desk was in the middle,” Joan followed the path, it was the study room of her mother, so everything was always a mess. The many books and papers, and computers that were spread around were a constant in their daily life. Joan found it so funny and her brother a headache, but didn’t mind it at all. He will tell that only a genius could find order inside that room.

However, only their father would get angry at the disorder. He will scream and yell and then shut the door behind him. Joan never understood why her mother kept being with that man, even if he was her father. The days he spent with them could not reach even one every week.  ​​

Joan moved towards the biggest bookshelf was before in the room. Now there was only a big pile of boxes. She knew that her stepmother and her father looked searched the room and the house many times. They wanted her mother’s research, however, she never gave it to them.

Now it was Joan’s move. She didn’t want to get to that, but they didn’t give any other option.

She pushed her hand towards the bookshelf and suddenly a blue screen appeared on the wall as if it was part of it. Then as she came closer to the screen, a green light scanned her face. The numbers that appeared on the screen showed the percentage of advancement. 25% … 50% …

The lid on a small part of the wall opened and a small gold bracelet with red and blue stones appeared.

“What is this?”

The image on the screen showed her how to put it on her wrist, and so she did it. She remembered her mother saying that she wanted to gift her something when she graduated from school. Then she will have the freedom she always wanted, away from the family and Owen’s greedy hearts.

However, if ever things go astray and there was a threat to her life, she had to use what was inside the box. Though, Joan never thought that the one who was going to betray her and send her to hell would be the man she always loved, Julian Ruan.

“Ah!!”

Joan tried to contain the pain, but it was just too much for her. Her nerves, her brain were making a strange connection.

“What… what is this?!”

The people from the Owen family were invited to the event of the year, the announcement of the engagement of their young master, Julian Ruan. The new CEO of Star Corporation, and the most desirable man in the city. No one could be above him in intelligence or appearance; even now, he was above to have the most beautiful woman of the high society, Samantha Owen, the new heiress of the Owen family and the best model of the fashion shows this year.

Everyone knew about the affair of the young master to the other daughter of the Owen family, however, nothing was official, even after a year. So, the rumors about Joan being only a toy for the young master until he was able to get the true trophy, his true love, spread like fire around the country.

“You should be very proud, Mrs. Owen,” the Madams, wives of the high society men were lurking around the woman in a red elegant dress with gold jewelry adorning her beautiful neck and wrists.

“Yes, of course,” she smiled widely, though, she tried to hide it with her hand.

The music and the venue were top-notch, only the important people were invited and only those who mattered in the world of the wealthy were given a chance to speak with the young master. However, they hadn’t seen him from the beginning of the show. Not even walking through the red carpet with his new fiancée.

The precious Samantha accompanied her parents and modeled to the cameras her long white dress, specially made to adjust her body and tell the other girls trying to jump into her new man’s bed to back off.

Mr. Owen was on the terrace and the man behind him was his personal ȧssistant.

“No, Mr. Owen, he hadn’t come to the party yet,” the man in glasses made a slight bow as he was answering the man that was throwing his glass to the floor.

“What about the others from the main family? Is there anyone from the Ruan family here yet?”

He tried to contain his anger, but it was difficult, nothing was going according to his plan. The man, that mighty man had to be there for them, he was supposed to tell the whole world that he was backing him for the position of CEO for the company. However, the night was starting to enter the second half and not a sight of the man or his brothers and sister, not even his grandpa or uncle was seen on the venue.

The talking and murmurs were already starting, but the idiot woman, his wife, was still gloating in happiness.

“Answer!”

The poor PA trembled and didn’t dare to look at the old man in the face, “There is no news about them, only people from the low branches had appeared.”

The old man almost cracked his fingers in anger again. He will be seen as a joke if no one from that family appeared and the engagement party will be taken as a joke.

However, the man that should be the main attraction of the show was now staring at the live video in his hands. From the moment Joan left the hotel room, he had made his people follow her everywhere and record her every move.

Even the screams and wails at night from her apartment were a vision so difficult for him to stand. If he could, he will shove everything and everyone and go to her without hesitation right then, but he couldn’t. She won’t allow him.

“What are you doing, Joan?” He said when he saw her moving to her old house in a sneaky way.

He knew that maybe with all of her family out of the city, she will make her move, the same as her brother, and so he gave her a chance. However, many minutes had passed, and she was still in there.

“What is she doing?” He had the phone connected to his men that were directed to spy on Joan.

“Boss, she is looking for something in an old storeroom.” They couldn’t go inside, and they were not able to look through the windows as they were blocked by cages and newspapers.

“Ahhh!”

“What was that?”

“She screamed, Boss, should we enter?”

The group of black-dressed people was ready to break down the door at the word of their master.

“Do it.”

Julian hesitated for a second as he didn’t want her to find out that he had been following her. However, it was a different matter if she was in danger.

Then he will make everything in his power to protect her, even if he had to lock her in his mansion.

The camera on the men’s glasses showed the dark room full of boxes and dust and as they moved to the side where a pile of things was thrown, they found the body of the woman. She was unconscious and with blood coming out of her mouth.

“Take her to the hospital, right now!”

He didn’t care anymore about the stupid engagement party. It was only a show and nothing else. His dėsɨrė to marry that fake woman was null, his only thought was on forcing Joan to make her move while the rest of the Owen family is out.

“Let’s go,” he said to the man on his side, PA Wilson.

“Yes, CEO Ruan,” the man in glasses advanced and opened the door of the office to his boss. They were on the tallest building of Capital Tress, not even close to the island they were supposed to be.

They took the helicopter on top of the tower and headed towards the hospital, Joan was transported to. Julian was feeling a bit nervous, he didn’t know what she wanted to find there, but it should not be something good, or she won’t end up fainting.
