The Reason I Keep Avoiding My Childhood Friend - Chapter 11
Why?! Why are you doing this? Did I not say your name correctly? I couldn’t have been wrong.
Seeing his nasty personality suddenly acting out again made it clear that he had an evil side that is not obvious at first.
This is why I should be wary of him!
“You, don’t make trouble.”
Kirsec said curtly and turned around while I stood huffing.
By the time I lifted my sore head and checked, he was already far away. Huh, those short legs are really fast! And he had a truly fickle personality.
Hmph, I shouldn’t have tried to console you!
Whatever! I’m glad we got through this meeting safely. I was a little nervous, but I didn’t get angry. He didn’t notice it either. And as long as I avoid him, I’ll never have to see him again.
“Phew!”
Yay, I survived it! I should be more careful from now on!
But my prediction that I wouldn’t have to get involved with him again was shattered in less than a day.
The best thing about living in the Grand Duke’s mansion was the food. It’s not like I hadn’t been fed well before.. But the same sausage dishes I’d had before tasted absolutely fantastic here, as if it were an entirely different dish.
A mouth filled and bursting with the flavors of tasty food; this is true happiness. I grinned widely in satisfaction.
“It’s delicious!”
I exclaimed from my position in the chair, my short legs swinging to-and-fro cheerfully. Mrs. Seryl, who was tasked with taking care of me, smiled happily.
“Tell me if it’s not enough. I’ll give you more.”
Perhaps she was worried about the sudden change in environment at such a young age; her eyes were filled with compassion.
A little child dependent on others for necessities should at least make sure to leave a good impression. So I answered more cutely than ever.
“Nope~ My tummy is all full~.”
I waved the fork in my hand as I said this. Seeing the smile on her face widen, I also laughed.
I’d just had a big slice of bread along with fruits and vegetables. I also hadn’t forgotten to drink a glass of milk after the meal. I was particularly short for my age, so I always made sure to drink a glass of milk after breakfast and dinner every day.
“Thank you for the meal!”
I thanked Mrs. Seryl as soon as I finished the meal. Her face filled with warmth as if she was seeing such a lovely child for the first time. It was a rewarding response for my childish act.
“Did you eat your fill?”
“Yes! I really enjoyed the meal.”
Always answer correctly and clearly. Nod your head. Then the adults will give me the she’s-so-cute-I-can’t-even expression. As expected, Mrs. Seryl’s eyes seemed to be raining hearts upon me. It’s now my seventh year in this baby’s body, and everything has improved a lot.
“Hahaha! It was prepared by Chef Yorin. I’ll let him know that Arendine found it delicious.”
“No!”
“Why?”
Mrs. Seryl looked surprised at my resolute cry. I shook my head and spoke solemnly with a serious look.
“It was not just delicious. You should tell him that it was really, really, really delicious.”
“What- Oh! Hahahaha, all right. I’ll make sure to tell him that.”
I was pleased with Mrs. Seryl’s voice, which seemed to suggest she would die from all the cuteness. It was only my second day in this mansion, and I had already successfully enticed an adult into pampering me!
“I’ll go study, then.”
“Okay. See you later, at dinner.”
I felt amazing after having lunch to make my stomach full. Studying is also a kind of physical labor. I should take a walk before going back to my room to prepare for today’s class.
Having made a short plan, I lengthened my strides and strode out of the building.
The bad thing about being a kid is that you have to expend a lot of energy to move around since your legs are so short.
But it was still better than crawling around, so I shouldn’t complain. I still shudder when recalling the days I couldn’t get my legs to work properly. It was terrible, trying to take my first steps, but falling right onto my butt instead.
