The Red Eyes - Chapter 0
Prologue

In the morning train packed with students and commuters, seated on the last section of the train carriage was a male college student. With a face full of unease, he covertly used his phone to take a picture of a high school girl standing near the train door.
The girl wore a white blouse and a black pleated skirt.
Flat face, and small, single lidded eyes, paired with old-fashioned thick-framed glasses, together with the acne and freckles on her face, not an ounce of beauty could be seen on the girl, yet her soft, dark, waist-length hair and slim frame definitely added some trait points to the girl’s figure from behind.
In the beginning, the male college student had not taken notice of her. It had not been until the passengers had streamed off the train, leaving the carriage interior bare, had he noticed the girl who had originally been lost within the sea of people.
This discovery left him befuddled. He shifted his feet and walked up behind the girl, staring straight at the girl’s silhouette with the distance of three people. After making sure his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him, his mouth gaped in aghast .
The end of the girl’s smooth,waterfall-like locks began to change colors.
Colors that resembled the platinum light of the moon slowly rose up from the ends of the girl’ hair.
He frantically took out his phone to record this bizarre moment. In the process, he also drew the attention of a fairly young office lady who gave him a scornful glare. But the abnormal appearance of the girl quickly shifted the young office lady’s focus, the disturbance spreading like ripples into the hearts of everyone in the carriage.
The announcement of the arrival at the station reverberated, breaking the unnerving tension surrounding the last section of the carriage.
The train stopped at the railway platform, yet no one got down from the train. All the passengers’ eyes were fixed on the girl, the sounds of the phone shutters and whispers erupting one after another.
The platinum hair color had already been spread up till the girl’s shoulders, making them shiver in fear, yet they were unable to avert their eyesight. The girl, who looked out of the window, remained indifferent, not caring that she had become the focus of public discussion.
The videos and photos of the girl rapidly spread all through the internet. A reckless bald man approached her with his camera still live streaming, attempting to strike up a conversation with the girl so that he could take a shot of her face.
Just when the man’s hand was about to touch her shoulders, the statue-like girl frigidly twisted her head around and fixed her eyes on his.
The lights on the train suddenly dissipated; the railway platform immediately thrown into a sea of pitch-black shadows.
Before any of the passengers could panic, the light returned in a flash. However, their phone screens had blackened, as if turned off, and there were no signals at all.
The sudden power outage prevented the train from operating. Amid the chaos, the male college student saw the girl getting off the train, and the man who had provoked her was slumped on the floor.
He immediately went up to him: 「Are you alright?」
With the man’s eyes frantic and his face deathly pale, it was as if he was frightened out of his soul.
「Her, h-her…」
「What did you say?」The male college student frowned.
「R-red, it’s red…」The man sweat profusely, and breathed heavily,「M-monster…」
The man kept repeating the words 「Monster」as if possessed, arousing the college student’s curiosity. Immediately, he rushed out of the carriage to chase after the girl.
After a few minutes of searching, he successfully found the girl. Her eye-catching hair color along with the unnatural flashing lights were the most obvious hints. Wherever she went, people would abruptly stop to spectate and point at a distance but were too afraid to get close.
A chorus of shouts broke through the commotion. Policemen clad in blue uniforms, helmets, and masks, and armed with assault rifles poured in from all sides, driving out the crowd in the station.
The crowd immediately scattered away while the male college student hid behind a food stall. Only when the sounds of shrieks and footsteps had faded away did he cautiously poked his head out, staring at the station hall.
The station which was originally bustling with people was now left with around fifty built special ops policemen, the strange girl among them.
They surrounded her even though she wasn’t armed with anything. Every single gun was pointed toward her, the deathly aura mingling with the smell of gunpowder.
The student’s heart pounded heavily.
Was…this some sort of emergency terrorist attack drill? Was that girl playing the role of a terrorist? But wasn’t asking a petite teenage girl to combat an army of policemen too ridiculous? Also, what was with the girl’s hair? What had they done to her to create such an effect?
Despite the circumstance, he could not help but marvel at the fact that the drill was quite realistic. He took out his rebooted phone to excitedly record the astonishing scene in front of him.
By now, the girl’s hair had fully transformed into a platinum hue.
He zoomed on the screen to get a better view. The girl raised her head, staring past the special ops team, and eerily looked at him through his phone camera, as if she had known he was there right from the start.
The student was so shocked that he forgot to hide.
The girl in front of him did not look the same as the girl he saw on the train just now.
At the moment, the girl from before was nowhere near as good looking as she was now. Her features looked so finely sculpted that she looked like a living doll.
But the most shocking thing he saw was, the pupils that were staring at him was ——
『R-red,it’s red……』
A burning sensation from his left hand that was holding the phone quickly spread to the entire left half of his body. He threw away the smoking phone, lying down on the ground rolling madly while howling in pain. Not long after, he passed out.
Several special ops policemen who were nearby hurriedly rushed over to the boy’s side. The left half of his body was charred and ulcerated in many places, wafting out an unpleasant burnt smell.
The commander of the special ops raised his handheld transceiver and reported: 「Target confirmed, without a doubt, she is the last red-eyed entity, over.」
「Did the target show any threatening behaviour?」The other end of the intercom responded.
「Yes, the target has been using her powers ever since she was first sighted, deliberately causing panic and attacking a citizen who was unable to evacuate. Please state your orders, over. 」
Three seconds later, a chilling command came over the intercom,「Kill her immediately, over.」
