The Restless Spirit’s Father - Chapter 343
With that, Ma Rui really felt indignant and humiliated. He was getting beaten up by a woman that wasn’t holding back at all. Maybe this was why his mother told him not to pick up girls from the capital. Ma Rui could only scratch his head at his failed attempt at poking fun at Liu Xiaodan.
He then spoke as he left the table. There was no face lost if there’s no face in the first place. He and his gang knew that they were just trying to poke fun at some guy one of them actually remembered. “Never mind then. I actually came here to visit an auntie. I guess I’ll just head home to her family villa tonight. See ya, Pinocchio.”
Liu Xiaodan didn’t want to see them ever again, but he was so smug that he just gave a small wave like he was a cool guy even if he didn’t say anything at all.
At the sight of them leaving, he only sighed and turned to Chuan Nayi. “Thanks for covering for me. I really have no idea how to handle those people as good as you did.”
“It’s okay. You can always be my muscle while I do my best to the brain.” Chuan Nayi chuckled as she was also pleased with the result. Liu Xiaodan was getting very acclimatized to violence because of his friends; she needed him to see other ways to end disputes.
…
Tonight, the city covered in darkness was rather quiet. When Chuan Nayi and Liu Xiaodan reached their Wu Family Estate, the guards were the only ones awake. Midnight was not a good time to return as the place was already very dark, and they didn’t want to disturb anyone else anymore.
However, Matron Yuye was still awake as she waited for the two of them to return. It was her duty as the matron to wait for all her masters if they were still returning for the night.
They had different rooms in the estate just because Liu Xiaodan not liking the idea of the friends messing with her stuff just because Tang Mingming felt like it. Moreover, Chuan Nayi was a girl; she needed her privacy now that she wasn’t with kids yet. Well, it didn’t matter if she’s not pregnant yet; this was a rather bad time after all.
Still, Chuan Nayi had some things in Liu Xiaodan’s room. She was sleeping in the same bed as him after all whenever possible. She had a feeling that being part of the Mian family would make him go to places that she couldn’t follow him. She was going to be the one left home, only waiting for him to return.
“Xiaodan, do you think… in five more years, we would still have to deal with all of these?” Chuan Nayi hummed as she rubbed her face against his c.h.e.s.t. “What do you think? In five years, are we still going to receive calls from Li Feng or from anyone and have you fly around because you needed to help out with their problem?”
“Nayi…” Liu Xiaodan pulled her closer. His eyes were closed, and his lips were curled in a smile. However, his words were nothing peaceful, well at least for Chuan Nayi. “Actually, I’m forced to stay in the Mian family almost all my life now. Remember that I was supposed to be executed for my crimes? But the judge decided to just send me to Cherry Medical for good?
“Well, it turned out that the police could still contest that and locked me somewhere else.” Liu Xiaodan held onto Chuan Nayi to keep her from screaming or getting up. “Just nice, Master Mian was around. They pushed the duties of a psychiatric institution on the Mian family as it was the only place that could handle my case. Right now, they would be watching over me and had the legal responsibility to keep me from straying around.”
The woman was furious. “Why am I hearing about this only now? Shouldn’t you tell me about this way earlier tonight? When did this even happen?”
Liu Xiaodan pursed his lips, but he actually panicked inside. “I… I actually forgot about it, Nayi. You just reminded me when you talked about the future.” He finally opened his eyes and smiled wider in an attempt to appease the fuming woman. “Nayi, don’t be mad…”
“Sigh. I’m not mad; I’m just disappointed…” She wrapped her arms around him tighter and in a more comfortable position. “The company I’m starting… I want you to work with me. Let’s work for a better future together.
“I can be a director myself, but you’re still the best cinematographer I could find. I mean, Li Feng’s shots are not even as good as yours.”
“Are you really saying that?” Liu Xiaodan’s brows rose. Not that he didn’t believe Chuan Nayi’s words or that he thought of himself as unworthy, but… he knew that this woman was very objective when it came to films.
“I have seen his films, though. I doubt I’m better than him.”
Chuan Nayi pouted. “Don’t take a look at the whole film. He has more resources than any of us. You can easily be fooled by the camera quality and color control, but the shots aren’t as scenic as yours.”
…
The next day was Liu Xiaodan’s practical test. Considering that Li Heilong was still hard at work, the things he promised were being honored. However, Liu Xiaodan was still a point away from failing. He wasn’t really the one driving from time to time. In the end, Tang Mingming took over his body and passed the test. Even if it did displease Li Feng as he could see the overlapping images, it was not something that could be pointed out.
Moreover, they were already cheating by relying on connections. What’s the point of lecturing Liu Xiaodan by using a proxy driver? It was still his body.
While trying to distract Li Feng from the fault, Liu Xiaodan ended up drifting to what Chuan Nayi mentioned last night. In a deadbeat tone as if no one expected him to contest it, Li Feng said, “She’s right, though.”
“That I’m better at cinematography than you?”
“Yeah, I prided myself as a director, not a cinematographer… so I figured the school will always have someone better than me in that department.” Li Feng acted like a cool guy, with his shades on his head and drinking cold soft drinks. It didn’t look like he was conceding to someone at all.
“…okay.” Liu Xiaodan expected as much. He didn’t really classify Li Feng as someone petty. Li Feng wouldn’t take things like this to heart, or else things wouldn’t be pretty for him. He wouldn’t probably survive Guangru in an attempt to harm Liu Xiaodan without a deep reason.
Still, it didn’t boost the other’s ego at all. Liu Xiaodan was dissatisfied.
Unaware of this, Li Feng seemingly remembered something. “Ah, yeah, I heard that a Hollywood director is going to host a short one-day course in the next city. I have a ticket. I think of taking you and the rest with me.”
Liu Xiaodan twitched and stared at the man with wide eyes. “Are you really Li Feng, or are you a god?”
