The Restless Spirit’s Father - Chapter 360
Li Xin’s fear wasn’t unfounded. There were already two attempts on her life, and both were from the Wu family who just wanted to harm her because of Li Heilong. Even if her brother didn’t look at her the same way anymore, she was still trying to barge into his life rudely if it was the only way she could gain attention.
However, her action only warranted a cold gaze from Li Heilong. He could still sit next to her and offer his body for her to hug and hide behind, but for her to act like he was concerned about her that much now… it was just simply intolerable. Well, he could tolerate it, but he wouldn’t sit through it. Besides, his son was in danger. Li Feng was more important than Li Xin… even Li Heilong.
“…don’t worry. They’re after me, not you.” Li Heilong didn’t really care that much. He got up from the bed after appeasing the terrified woman, leaving her with nothing but the warmth embedded in where he sat. He noticed the shock in her eyes, but he cared too little in general. “You’ll be fine without me, Xinxin. You even dared to kill me. Don’t pretend to rely on me like you need me to breathe.
“Let’s go.” Li Heilong fetched Wang Yusheng from the room. Li Xin wanted to speak more, but she couldn’t say anything anymore… especially when everyone remembered that attempt that she did. Perhaps, she was the only person who could live through an attempt on Li Heilong’s life.
“Hehe,”—Wang Yusheng chuckled as they exited the room—”what about me? Can you breathe without me?”
…
Guangru had gone to meet with Liu Xiaodan as he headed to the Mian family. He was just going to speak with Mian Tianni for a bit. There was a lot to be said, but in the end, he was just swinging by to tell her how he was going to punish the Qiao family by making them take their own medicine. They had been terrorizing people through their Black March, and it was time for someone to do the same to them.
Liu Xiaodan’s friends might be too few, but none of the demons from the Qiao family could withstand Guangru. Not even them altogether could withstand the child just the same.
When the black Aventador came to view, a figure actually walked in front of the car.
“Holy—!” Liu Xiaodan was scared so bad that he cussed out. He was not good with driving and was pretty much leaving the complicated things to Tang Mingming or Guangru when he was behind the wheel. Right now, a brave yet reckless woman walked in front of his car. If he ran her over, he might as well get run over himself.
“Mrs. Li!” Liu Xiaodan quickly got out of the car that Guangru was able to stop inches away from Mian Bingbing. She wasn’t even fazed and looked at him with her freezing gaze. She spoke coolly, “Where’s my Feng’er?”
“Everyone’s Feng’er is somewhere else I don’t know yet. I already told Mr. Li how he might be found.” Liu Xiaodan shrunk a little. Even if he could be more dangerous than most of the people he knew, he wasn’t really one that asserted dominance for the sake of it. What use did he have for arrogance if he had to fall out with a lot of people and live alone? Certainly, he didn’t want his son to be that lonely.
The look on her face changed. However, before she could say anything, her phone rang. Upon seeing that it was Li Heilong, she picked up the call and walked out of the driveway as if she didn’t do anything reckless earlier.
Liu Xiaodan’s eyes only flickered before he sighed. He got inside the car and drove all the way to the parking space of the Mian family. He got off of the car before finding a text from Ruan Jin. They had reached the Wu Family Estate safely and would be waiting for him to come back. He also received a message from Chuan Nayi.
As a smile rose to curl his lips, a message from Li Heilong came in. It had nothing but an address. It must be the place where Li Feng was being tortured by Wu Zhen and Hongfei. He would tell about the other person, but he didn’t know the old man’s name. In the end, he walked into the Purification Hall where Mian Tianni was listening to the recitation of the apprentices.
“Stop.” Mian Tianni moved her dainty hand to pause the lecture and turned to Liu Xiaodan. He greeted her respectfully as if she was indeed an elder of his immediate family. However, no matter how he looked at it, this was Wu Qianqian’s beloved auntie. She might as well stand as an actual grandmother for Liu Xiaodan.
“Grandma, can I speak with you for a bit? It’ll be quick. It’s very important.” Liu Xiaodan was so respectful that the apprentices thought that he was also a son of one of the women under Mian Tianni. However, they had never seen him in this place before.
Mian Tianni turned away from him instead. “The Association had reserved its jurisdiction on that matter.”
Liu Xiaodan twitched as he heard her dainty and gentle voice that carried so much eminence in it. He straightened his back and frowned lightly. “What does that mean, Grandma?”
“The Qiao family had broken the deal they had with us. They continued to mobilize their agents and ghosts to harm humans. The Shao and Xie families had been hit last night.” She then closed her eyes. “Xiaodan, as a member of the Mian family, pass on the judgment of the Shaman Association onto them. Should they resist the authority I vested on you… annihilate them.”
“…understood.” Liu Xiaodan wasn’t sure why things proceeded like this, but it seemed like the Qiao family seriously forced the hand of the Shaman Association. Were they confident that the Mian family and the rest wouldn’t move against them? Did they think the Mian family would be scared of their Black March now that they have Guangru? More importantly, him… Project Hades?
He then moved to turn and leave as he had nothing more to do; who knew that Mian Tianni foresaw that he would come to her for this? However, Mian Tianni called him again, making him stop and turn around to face her. “Xiaodan, I forbid you to die. I will not answer to Qianqian for you.”
Liu Xiaodan only smiled and bowed again before he left in his black Aventador. When the car sounded in the distance, that was the only time that Mian Tianni had taken a look at the car’s vanishing figure. “Lengleng, Yunmi, you must guide him.”
…
Shudder. Li Feng’s body trembled in pain, while he was trying his best not to cry out. The blaze of Hongfei’s flaming cloth was too hot, and his skin had already charred at parts that were repeatedly hit. His once-flawless skin was riddled with blisters and patches of burns, but unlike before, he wasn’t complaining at all.
Maybe, when he stayed mum for a longer while, they would stop.
