The Restless Spirit’s Father - Chapter 372
Of course, Yingxia didn’t seem to be thoroughly upset. Her brain might have gotten smaller, but she could feel the resentment inside Li Feng, and it had intensified more than it had ever been since they last met. She only walked towards them and divided herself into two. Standing behind the struggling old men, she waited for them to exhaust the clips.
“Big Brother, Yingxia is sorry.” The mirror maiden just accepted her death. If she tried to fight back, she would be devoured by Hades or that child. After the twentieth bullet on both men hit their c.h.e.s.t, the mirror maiden lifted their heads to her c.h.e.s.t level before severing it from the neck. The cut was even done slowly that a lot of blood spurted from everywhere it could leak.
Li Feng only watched as Yingxia lost her materialization and merely died after a few seconds. Like a breaking mirror, her image shattered and vanished. Since the heads were kept in her collection before she broke apart, the heads didn’t drop anymore.
Just like that… the event had ended.
…
High-rising flames shot up to the skies as the rest villa was burned down. Everyone who had gone to help out in the rescue and invasion was already either sent away to recuperate or gathered around to watch the flames break down the very exquisite estate. Multiple lives were lost here, and the crackle of the embers was accompanied by the prayers of the shamans.
Li Feng watched the flames along with Liu Xiaodan. Guangru was cradled in the father’s arm, and he only watched the scene through the eyes of another. The scene was so quiet as if no one celebrated the win. The two also stood there soundlessly, even if Li Feng was only covered by that coat his father had given him.
Heels sounded, and Mian Bingbing only stood around with Li Heilong, Wang Yusheng, and Kang Jun. Losses were inevitable, but it was not as big as the Qiao family’s. Only the untalented collateral relatives remain, but they were all still put into strict monitoring.
“…I can’t believe he has to lose someone again.” Mian Bingbing breathed out. There would be days again when Li Feng would be spacing out and thinking of nothing but the departed. He was so ready to marry Qiao Shan, but she had to be taken away like this. Even the grandchild was lost.
Li Heilong had nothing to say. Not only was he so sure that his words might come across as heartless, but he couldn’t also condemn his own son to a life of pain and tragedy. He could only wrap an arm around Mian Bingbing and pull her closer.
Unaware of the conversations far away, Li Feng then decided to turn to Liu Xiaodan. “So what now? Are you still going to continue your apprenticeship in the Mian family?”
“I don’t see a reason why I should stop.” Blinking, Liu Xiaodan didn’t take a look until he finished this line. With a small smile, he even reached out to pat Li Feng’s shoulder. “This… what happened to us might still be happening to others. Our city is not the only one with ghosts running free. We should be able to save more people from this kind of fate… losing their loved ones to ghosts and shrewd men who cared not of life.”
“You just wanted to have ghosts to eat.” Seemingly not believing Liu Xiaodan, Li Feng only sighed before chuckling. “I won’t be able to be around for a few days. Erm, don’t worry, my promises still stand. You don’t have to think that I’m canceling on that short course.”
It was strange, and Liu Xiaodan only nodded. “Alright, you’d need the distraction. Also, the company would still need a few days before we could start after all. We should be able to wait for our producer…”
Halfway, Li Feng was already smiling. However, he heard about the ‘producer’ part. He then turned to the other man with a frown. “Why am I producer? Can’t you fork out money for that? That company is yours—no, Nayi’s. That company is Nayi’s; what can’t you fund it instead?”
“Because it’s a Li Enterprise subsidiary… and that you would probably be able to pull more people than all of us combined.” Liu Xiaodan only smiled, but his cheek was pulled on by Li Feng.
…
A super black Aventador pulled up in the Wu Family Estate, and almost everyone inside ran out to welcome Liu Xiaodan back home. The friends had gone up immediately, and Liu Xiaodan was showered with hugs from his wife-to-be and his mother. After that, he was jumped to the ground by the three hors.e.m.e.n, the heads hit by Liu Li in no time. Liu Xiaodan was then lastly greeted by the dogs: Shanhu gave licks, while Lanlu peed at him.
In the Mian family, the family of three was welcomed by the elderly Mian. Li Yunru flew to Li Feng and basically inspected him from anything visible. However, it was only the three of them; the quiet, reserved girl didn’t return along with them. Li Feng felt the absence right away.
Mian Tianni had a video conference with the rest of the council right after. She had fiercely argued with everyone and end up winning. However, it didn’t change the fact that things were not like what they all used to be now.
The night had fully blanketed everything in darkness. On the roof of the Wu Family Estate, Guangru sat on the highest part. He was looking at the starless sky as if it was reflecting his thoughts. He had been here ever since the rest had gone to sleep to digest their earnings.
Next to him faded in a black horse stuffed toy. Heima couldn’t move the horse’s head, but he could still see the child nonetheless. “Is something wrong, Guangru?”
“…do you think Baba still needs me?” Guangru then looked down at his small hands. “Now that all the dangers are gone, there is probably nothing that could threaten his life… and everyone else’s now. Do you think… he would still have me, Big Brother?”
“Guangru, take a look at yourself. Whether he needs you or not, you will choose to stick with him. It’s useless to think about such things if it only serves to make your heart ache.” Heima then paused before chuckling. “Moreover, he didn’t adopt Guangru, the ancient demon tree… he adopted Guangru, the poor mogui who just wanted to be born. Do you really have to question yourself now?”
Guangru offered a smile in return, but both of them knew that Guangru’s mind didn’t become clear at that point. However, there was nothing to speak about. His father didn’t even know the child was that strong until recently. Even if he did, he would still run to Guangru’s side if the child cried.
The child then pulled his knees to his c.h.e.s.t and his chin on them. “I’ll wait for a few more days then…”
