The Revenant: Borei - Chapter 2
Lieutenant Park walked into his office and sat down at his desk. He didn’t know how he was supposed to react to the news that there was, apparently, some Japanese vigilante serial killer in Eagle City. The right thing to do would be to inform FRAG and let them handle it, but, the main question in his mind was ‘Should I even try to stop him or her?’ He felt ashamed having that thought, but this ‘Revenant’ wasn’t just killing innocent people. He was killing criminals.
“Park, I want this case.” Joseph Pike said as soon as he entered the office. Lieutenant Park looked up from his thoughts.
“Why? I should turn this over to FRAG.” Park explained.
“Because. This thing isn’t above the law. It needs to be brought to justice, and FRAG will just kill it. How is that justice?”
“I understand, but it’s procedure now. I’m sorry.” Park explained.
“No. I’m going after it.” Pike said as he turned to leave the office.
“What? No you’re not. You’re my detective. I am telling you not to pursue this. I don’t understand why this is so important to you. I’ve never seen you like this.”
“IT COULD’VE SAVED MY FAMILY” Pike yelled. “It was around and going after the Yakuza when my family was killed. Why didn’t he finish them off? Then my family would still be here!”
“You’re too close to this. I’m turning the case over to FRAG and you will be suspended if you go after him.” Park explained as he went to pick up his phone.
Pike walked over, placed his gun and badge on Park’s desk and walked out of the office. Lieutenant Park sighed, and dialed the number used to contact FRAG administration.

James McCloud stepped out of his car and walked through the cemetery. After a few moment of walking he stopped at two headstones next to each other. He stood in front of them with his hands in his pockets. His shoulder length brown hair being blown lightly into his face by the wind. His steel blue eyes, focused, and unwavering on the headstones. Looking into them was almost like looking into a void. He kneeled down at the grave.

It had been 10 years since his parents were killed. He was only 17 when it happened.
“Mom. Dad. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I haven’t been here until now. I couldn’t-I couldn’t bring myself to come here. Knowing that it was…” He paused, and stood up. He gave one last glance to the Graves, and then turned and walked back to his car.
“My fault.”

Hitori Masamusa stood at the head of the table. Surrounded by his daughter and her new husband.
“I want to thank everybody for coming. Today has been a day I have been dreading and waiting for ever since my-” He was cut off by the lights in the building going out. People murmured amongst themselves in confusion.
“Hitori Masamusa. Death. Comes. Swiftly.” A voice said from somewhere in the darkness.
“Ah, so you are this Borei I have heard about.” Masamusa chuckled. “How do you expect to accomplish anything with all of my men here, ready to kill you?”
“What men?” The voice mocked, and suddenly multiple handguns and SMG’s were thrown onto the table Masamusa stood behind.
“This is my daughters wedding! How dare you!” Masamusa roared.
Then a figure appeared in the middle of the, now dimly lit by candles, room.
“Show your face coward!” Masamusa roared.
“Who I am doesn’t matter. What I am, is what you should worried about.”
“A Revenant? Please. You are not undead. You are just a man. A man which can be killed!” Masamusa yelled before he threw a dinner knife from in front of him at the figure. Borei caught the knife, and dropped it to the floor. Borei lunged forward and flipped the table towards Masamusa.
Hitori Masamusa grabbed his daughter to shield her from the table. When he stood back up, the figure was gone.
“Shi wa jinsoku ni yattekuru. But not for you.” A voice said behind Masamusa. Before he could react, he felt a blade slice both of his acchilles tendons and he fell to the floor.
“Your death, shall come very, very slowly.” Borei said as he stood over Masamusa. He leaned down and began to carve the Borei Japanese character into his back. All the while, Masamusa moaned in pain and his daughter cried in terror.
“Tell your daughter it’s going to be alright. Lie to her.” Borei said “Lie to her. Or she dies too.” He whispered into Masamusa’s ear.
“Baby girl, it’s okay. Everything is going to be okay. I promise.” Masamusa said behind tears. Right as he finished, Borei’s blade dug into the soft spot in the back of his skull, entering his brain. Killing the leader of the Yakuza. Borei stood up and looked at his daughter.
” Congratulations on the marriage. Apologies for the funeral.” Borei said.
Suddenly the doors to the room burst open and Tokyo police flooded the room.
“Freeze!” Said their lead detective, Joseph Pike. Then, like magic, Borei disappeared.
Joseph Pike felt a sharp pain in his back.
“Joseph, you won’t die here, but this is a reminder, do not get in my way.”
Joseph stood still for a moment. Then reached to his back where the pain was, pulled is hand back, and it was covered in blood. The rest of his men were already going through the room and escorting the people out, one cop was trying to remove Masamusa’s daughter from his corpse.

Joseph Pike stood in front of the mirror, running his fingers over the scar on his back.
“I swear, Borei, I swear on my families Graves, that you Will be brought to justice. By me.”
