The Runaway Bride’s Love Story - Chapter 440
Waking up in a strange place, the groggy Zhang Lili was suddenly on her toes. The heavy stench of tobacco smoke blended with thick liquor fumes assaulted her nose. Her addled brain clearing up.
“Wh.. Where am I?!!”
Immediately sitting up straight on the dirty, soiled bed, Zhang Lili darted her frightened gaze around the dingy room. It was smelly and unfit for a princess like her to reside in.
The cartoon bedsheet and quilt on Zhang Lili’s body were tattered and unclean. They seemed to not have been washed since the time of beginning!
The thin and mottled curtains were in the similar condition with small holes in them, while the floor was dirty and stained. The fan above was old and full of dust. There was an ancient wooden table in the corner with a stack of torn books, a cup-cum-vase of dried up flowers and other unidentifiable objects on it. Even the wooden chair wasn’t in a good condition. Her fears increasing with each second, each breath inside this gloomy and dilapidated room.
Feeling ill at ease, Zhang Lili turned sickly pale. Her heart pounding, loud and clear in the quietude.
“You’re awake?”
A familiarly cold voice reached Zhang Lili’s ears, and her pounding heart jolted inside her chest. She whipped her head to meet those intimidating pair of eyes under the lens of his spectacles. Her pretty fingers clenching the bedsheets in fright.
Standing at a distance was a seemingly unaffected and cold Mr Bai, carrying a tray with a cracked ceramic bowl and glass of water. His unusual actions appeared to be completely natural.
The man didn’t bat an eyelid in the face of Zhang Lili’s disconcerted expression and confused state of mind.
“Why.. Why am I here? What.. What are you trying to do..?”
Staring at the man as he placed the tray atop the wooden table, Zhang Lili asked in a low stutter. Her voice raspy as her throat was dry from dehydration.
“It’s not early. Have something to eat first..”
Instead of answering her question, Mr Bai turned to glance at Zhang Lili’s white face. His gaze unreadable, his expression stoic as he suggested coldly.
“No! I.. I don’t want to eat anything.. I want to go back!”
Shaking her head, Zhang Lili refused Mr Bai’s kind intentions without any second thoughts.
Clearly undesiring to spend another minute with this cold, ruthless and abhorrent man, who, Zhang Lili boldly percieved might’ve abducted her with ulterior motives.
Scared stiff, Zhang Lili simply stared at Bai Yong’s cold front while he remained mum like a stone statue. Though restless, Zhang Lili couldn’t help but stare into Bai Yong’s profound gaze, beckoning her to sin. Her small face flushed red.
Feeling the man’s unfathomable gaze on her, Zhang Lili clumsily tucked away the messy locks off her face.
“Fine! Get ready. I’ll drop you..”
Furtively clenching his fists before, Mr Bai apathetically spat his words before turning on his heel to leave. The booming sound of the door slamming was the only thing that echoed after his figure vanished from the vexed Zhang Lili’s sight.
Outside, Mr Bai had a strained expression as he leaned against the sports car with a cigarette in between his fingers. Agitated, he took a puff as wisps of smoke covered his scowling countenance like a dreadful fog.
“Shit!”
Kicking the car’s tire with force, Mr Bai cursed out loud.
Faced with a cute but affrighted Zhang Lili, the seemingly cold Bai Yong had no idea how to behave or even react. His heart was racing, and he couldn’t control his sudden desire for her. Thus, the man fled the scene after saying his piece, with much difficulty, of course!

Last night, Zhang Lili was stunned by the abrupt attack on her lips and stood staring vacantly in the direction where Mr Bai had left. Her emotions all over the place.
After a long while, Zhang Lili managed to get a grip on herself.
“No! Don’t get distracted!! Lili, focus! Focus”
Slapping her cheeks, Zhang Lili blabbered to herself encouragingly. She decided to go back to Lucifer, lest he becomes angry and things get out of hand.
“Aah..”
As Zhang Lili hurried in her steps, she saw a ‘no entry’ sign in front of her and turned around when a big hand grabbed her. Her eyes widened in sheer terror. She struggled violently, still her puny strength was no match to the burly man.
With her mouth stuffed with a cloth, Zhang Lili was forcibly dragged to room no 1808. A needle stabbed her nape, the acute pain causing Zhang Lili to pass out.
“..That bitch! I was just helping her.. If she gets caught, Lucifer will kill her!”
After storming away, the huffing Bai Yong kicked the ground in irritation, cursing out loud.
“It doesn’t matter if she dies, and I don’t have to care!.. Yes, I don’t have to care, it doesn’t concern me.. Her death..”
Stuck in a dilemma, Bai Yong’s forehead creased into a frown as he half-heartedly convinced himself not to bother. His tone decreasing to a notch with each word.
Later, Bai Yong desperately countered his earlier statements inwardly, like a helpless lunatic. It was comical to see the originally unfeeling man like him losing his cool so easily.
