The Saga Of The Emptiness Harbinger - Chapter 12 The Revelation
Two days later.
“I am starting to believe that you want me to kill you, Anna. Could it be that you had enough?” Lucy asked in a mocking voice. She spat out some blood and smirked.
“Haha. You think that your torturing technique is scary? You should see how we get most of the information we sell.”
“Well, I was ‘gentle’ because you’re a girl. If you want to, I will skip the easy part and send Shorty in. And he wants to know many things, and apparently holds quite a grudge against you. Would you like him instead of me, hm?” Lucifer raised an eyebrow while checking out the sharpness of the blade he was holding in his hand.
“Hmpf. Let him in, maybe he knows some real torturing techniques. These ones you use are quite sloppy.” She shrugged.
Lucy smiled and exited the room. After a couple of moment, he stood next to me in a room next to the torture room. Those two rooms are connected by a one-way glass window, so I saw and heard everything that happened inside.
“What do you say, Shorty? Are you interested in paying a visit to this pretty lady?” Lucy asked me with obvious boredom in his voice.
“I already know more about her than most. She is from my hometown and we went to the same school. Heh, if I knew she will end up as a greater psycho-sadist than me, I wouldn’t have liked her before.” I sighed.
“Oh, so you two are like a pair or something?” He seemed interested in the way this situation was developing.
“Haha. No. She was my crush but she ain’t the most stable person one could meet. I’m cold now.” I said with a shrug.
“Ok then, get in and get us some valuable info on everything she knows.” He said.
“No problem.”
“So it’s your turn to play with me now?” She presented me with a bloody smile.
“Close your mouth, it’s disgusting. Now, let me ask you. Why did you come here to Glaud?”I asked seriously.
“For a mission, why else would an assassin like me go out of my city.” She answered.
“What mission were you given?” I continued my interrogation.
“That is confidential and you know it.” She stretched her neck from one side to another. I repeated my question but she remained silent.
“You know, if you keep silent like this I’ll really need to take up torture. And trust me, I know how to get what I want from a girl.” I grinned.
“Try me.” She grinned back.
I left the room and took my toolbox.
I was back in the interrogation room in no time. She looked bored from waiting.
“Why do you look like you’re bored, Anna. I wasn’t a way for too long.” I said while taking out a bunch of things from the box and placing them on the table.
“Wow, those sure look interesting. What is the use of that on the left?” She asked in a falsely curious voice.
“It is used to… Well, you don’t wanna know, actually.” I decided not to explain it to her. I’m gonna show her soon enough anyway.
“But I do. I guess that you won’t kill me in the end. I mean, I know many things that are not important to these old fools but are very important to you.”
“I’m sorry but I’ll need to break your delusion. There isn’t anything that could interest me more than why are you here.” I shrugged.
“Our mission was to get you back to Argos Medius.”
“Who employed you for that job?” I said while checking if my pliers are working well.
“That is even more confidential than the mission itself. And you’re wrong if you think that taking our my nails or teeth will make me say anything.” She said.
‘Does she really think that I’ll hurt her? She said more without torture than while Lucy did his thing.’ I thought while sighing.
“So, what technique of torture will you use, Max? You have intrigued me.” She kept asking.
“I’ll ask a different question. What do you know about me?” I asked and placed the pliers back on the table.
“Your name is Maximilian Victor. You’re an orphan adopted by some random guy for some random purpose.” She shrugged.
I stood there and wondered if she is joking with me. At that moment Lucy entered the room at a lightning speed and hit her to the shoulder with a baton.
“LIES! YOU FILTHY LYING BITCH! How dare you speak such lies about my respected family! We do not abandon nor do we adopt children out of our kin.” He roared.
My brain was unable to process all this information at the same time so it stopped working. I couldn’t think about anything, not even about simple things like breathing and blinking. Only after a few moments did I come back to my senses and remembered to breathe.
‘Looks like my name is Maximilian Victor. Heh, not bad. At least it ain’t weak like it could’ve been. But now I have a question for Lucifer.’ I sighed as my thinking capabilities came back.
“Yo, Lucy. I have no ask you something before you kill her.” I said while scratching the back of my head.
“Speak quickly, Shorty, I do not have time for talking.” He seemed disturbed by my interruption.
“Your last name is also Victor, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, it is. So what?”
“When I asked my father why does he hate the military so much, he said that they do not deserve to be liked. He then added that a certain military group decimated our family and that he was one of the last surviving members of the family. He refused to talk about the detailed history of our family. Now, I am sure that you know something. If not, why did you react in such a way to her words?” I said blankly.
“One year before your father, Mathias Victor went to make his living in Pangras, he got a certain task from his father. At that time our noble family was completely focused on bringing the military of Landyg to the top of the food chain again, but your father was an extreme pacifist. He denied the task given to him and escaped to Pangras anyway. His father, my cousin, decided to give him an ultimatum. He could either come back home and join the Armata or become an Exile of kin. Your father chose later. Three years later Mathias got a child. And another seventeen years later his uncle found out that he was standing on the way of his son’s military career. He decided that the whole town needs to be eradicated for housing such a traitor.” Lucy spoke in a calm voice. My head was going to burst.
More than ten voices started alternating in a high frequency. Not as bad as before, but it still gave me one hell of a headache.
~In the end, why does it even matter.~ One voice prevailed over the others.
~Didn’t you promise that you will make the culprit pay? I think that this is your chance kid. Take it or leave it. Father or some other cousin you don’t even know?~
This was clearly the longest monologue a voice in my head has ever made.
“So, cousin Lucy. You have fifteen minutes of headstart. When the fifteen minutes is out, I’ll come for you.” I said in an eerie voice. One could easily notice that he had not expected this. He smiled weirdly bit still left the room.
“I have a task that is rewarded by freedom. Will you join me for an unknown time period and an unknown payment?” I turned to Anna.
“You were a few moments away from making me bleed a second ago. And now you ask me to work for you? I still have obligations towards the Organization and the employer you know.” She was clearly surprised by my question.
“Well. Whaddaya say? Consider this your only way to get out of here alive. I mean, I can always hunt him down by myself, this is personal after all. But the point is, you made this mess by saying my name. So either you help me, or you help those guys outside. And trust me, the soldiers of the Armata are not stupid, they’ll fuck you up first.” I said. I picked up the tools from the table and placed them back into the box. After pondering a bit about the possible choices, she replies:
“You will bring we with you for personal revenge and even pay me?”
‘Why does everyone need to answer with a question. I hate that.’ I sighed.
“Yeah, you’re gonna get paid for your services. Happy?”
“No. I’ll do it for free if it’s for you, Max.” She smiled. And I felt the urge to kick her immediately. But I resisted and simply said while unlocking the cuffs that were tying her for the chair.
“Welcome to the Suicidal Revenge Club, Anna.”
“Why, thank you, Shorty. Oh, and I advise you to get a mask and not use your name.” She said.
“Are you sure that you want me to take on the Nameless signature looks? I mean, after I do what I’m gonna do, they will be on everyone’s bad sides. They will be demonized.” I said seriously.
“We are an assassin organization. We are demons already.” She smirked.
“Hehe. You think?” I grinned back.
“How many people die a month because of our actions? How many people had met a gruesome end in the ditch beside the road or in their own homes in front of their loved ones who soon joined them, all because of us? Nobody knows we hide the info, we are proud of our accomplishments. So yeah, I know that we are demons already.” She answered frantically.
“Have you ever been a cause of a planet being destroyed whole? Have you ever take a bath in the blood of the innocent simply by slaughtering through more than a few thousand civilians who did nothing but stand in your way to your objective? Have you? Do you plan on slaughtering your whole family in the near future?” I laughed madly and asked while caressing her cheek. She stared at me with a terrified look in her eyes.
