The Side Character Turned Villainess - Chapter 299
Mathias walked into Seri’s home with stacks of documents he had just finished. Since he graduated, he dedicated his full focus to being Seri’s most trusted accountant. He managed the meetings, the money, and the people at the Black Death’s headquarters.
Even though Mathias was terrified to discover that Seri was in charge of such a mafia like group, he soon got accustomed to it. He was relieved that he was able to find a job that didn’t require him to talk to people as much. Plus, he got to wear a mask which gave him much more confidence.
Of course…
That wasn’t the only reason why he loved his job so much.
He also loved the fact that he got to see Millie’s sister Sophie every day. He rarely spoke to her, but he was always watching her. Sophie felt his stare and would always bring him desserts and treats. Although everyone knew Mathias like Sophie, including Sophie herself, Mathias still hadn’t tried asking for her hand in marriage.
Mathias was determined to marry her… However… He just needed some time to gain courage.
Mathias was let into Seri’s house where he walked with a skip in his step. He came to the reception room where Millie was casually lounging on a chair putting slices of apples into her mouth while she read from a book. She turned to look at Mathias who strolled over.
Mathias asked, “Where is Seri?”
“Around.” Millie looked at the documents in his hand, “You came to deliver those?”
He nodded, “Yes. I finished the paperwork.”
“Just put them wherever. I will remind Seri when she recovers.”
“Recovers?”
The door flung open as Dante hurried into the room. He silently shut the door behind him while looking around the room quickly. Millie and Mathias watched him walk around the room inspecting everything without expression. He stopped at a cabinet and opened it up. There was barely any room for a grown man, but he still pushed himself inside and shut the cabinet door.
Mathias watched him with a large “?” above his head. He turned to Millie, “Uh… What’s going on?”
Millie responded nonchalantly, “Seri is drunk.”
“Right.” Mathias nodded in understanding. He stopped and spoke again, “Which means?”
Millie pointed to the door that was suddenly kicked open. Mathias’s face grew dark as he attempted not to scream from the scare. Seri walked into the room giggling maliciously, “Danteeee~ Where are youuu? Come out to plaaaay!”
Mathias and Millie watched silently as Seri strolled into the room looking around while chuckling like a crazed murderer. She paid them no attention as she searched. Then she stopped in front of the cabinet door.
She tilted her head, “I guess he’s not in this room… Shame… Guess I must look elsewhere.”
Dante silently breathed a sigh of relief. Then the door to the cabinet was suddenly thrown open. He stared at Seri’s crazed expression with his mouth slightly open.
“Found you~”
With her drunken monster-like strength, she dragged Dante out of the room by his ankle. Dante’s expressionless face stared at Mathias and Millie as if he was finding peace with his god.
Mathias blinked in confusion, “Uh…”
Millie took another bite from her fruit, “Whenever Seri is drunk, she turns into a sadistic beast. Dante doesn’t dislike it, but Seri is rather insatiable. After a while he starts shooting blanks.”
Mathias still didn’t understand, “Blanks?”
She handed him the book. He took it and began to read it. The erotic novel Millie had been reading so casually went into a very descriptive definition as to what she had meant. Mathias was so embarrassed his face began to turn black.
“Tonight is going to be really fun to watch. Now if you will excuse me.” She stood up and went to the door before hesitating. She turned to Mathias, “Actually, there is something I need to do before I go.”
She went to her bag and fiddled through it. She spoke as she looked in it, “By the way… When do you intend to propose to my sister?”
“P-Propose?!”
“Mhm. She’s not getting any younger and neither are you. I am getting irritated seeing her annoying whimpering expression because you have yet to propose.”
“I… Uh… I will… Propose… Eventually…”
Her sharp eyes turned to him, “Eventually?”
He flinched from her predatory look, “I’m… I’m waiting for the right time…”
“The right time, eh?” She found a needle and a jar. She put the needle in the jar and filled it with the liquid. She walked over to Mathias and put her hand out, “Ehem.”
“?”
“Hand.”
Mathias didn’t understand and put his hand out. Millie immediately jabbed the needle into his skin and injected him. His face grew dark as he tried not to faint. Millie pulled the needle out and gave a nod. “That should do it.”
“Do… Do what?” Mathias wanted to scream out, but his voice could barely make a whisper.
Millie turned to him with a frightening glare, “It’s a poison for which only I have an antidote.”
“P…Poison?”
“That’s right. You will only have 24 hours before it stops your heart and kills you. Do you want the antidote?”
He nodded quickly.
She smirked, “Good. Then to get it, all you need to do is propose to my sister.”
“P…Propose?”
“That’s right. You said you were waiting for the right time. Well. Now is the right time.” She patted his shoulder, “Don’t forget. 24 hours.”
She left the room leaving behind Mathias whose face was growing darker.
He fainted.
He woke up and saw the light coming into the room. He jumped up in a panic. How long had he been unconscious for!?
He wanted to scream in a panic. He didn’t have time to figure it out! He needed to find Sophie to propose quickly! Without waiting another second, he ran out of the building. He sprinted towards the bakery only stopping occasionally to vomit and gasp for breath.
He wasn’t very athletic…
He rushed into the bakery and threw open the door. Millie’s brothers and sisters flinched from the sudden noise. Sophie saw the distraught Mathias and raised an eyebrow, “Mathias? What’s wrong?”
He went to her quickly as he gasped for air, “S-S-S- oh my – Sophie!”
“Y-Yes?”
He leaned over still panting, “I… hate… running…”
She blinked, “Huh? Oh.. Okay?”
He straightened up immediately, “I have to ask you something before I die!”
She blinked in confusion, “Die?”
He suddenly took a knee and started shouting out, “From the moment I saw you I always knew that you were the one for me! You are always so kind and gentle that I desperately wanted to proclaim that you are mine! However, I was too scared to say anything to you because you were a perfect angel and I feared that I was not good enough for you!”
He gasped for air in confusion. Why was he suddenly shouting all of this?! Millie said to propose not bear his soul!
Sophie smiled bashfully, “Oh, Mathias…”
His mouth moved as if he was possessed, “That is why I have been carrying around a ring in my pocket from the moment I first decided I would marry you!”
Her eyes widened, “M-Marry?!”
His mouth began to shoot out several words without breathing, “I bought this ring from an antique dealer because it was a ring worn from Queen Neraptia from the Western Isles who ruled with a gentle heart. When a plague ran rampart through the town, she worked alongside the nurses and doctors to save her people. Unfortunately, she got sick as a result and didn’t have long to live. A royal member of the Imperial Family was distributing medicine to the isles when he heard about her sacrifice. Using his knowledge of medicine, he began to tend to her night and day in an attempt to help her recover from the sickness. As he cared for her, the two of them fell in love and the Queen revealed that her deathbed wish was to get married! So he spent all of his money on this ring and carved their initials into the blue stone to forever declare their love!”
Sophie blinked in surprise, “Wow… That’s… Really interesting…”
He pulled out the ring, “So please become my Queen and marry me!”
The ring in question was clearly a valuable one. It had rare diamonds lining the side and a bright blue stone in the middle of it. There was a small carving that only one with a really powerful magnifying glass could read.
Her eyes sparkled when she saw the fancy large diamond ring, “T-This is so beautiful… I want to wear it now… But will it fit?”
“I already know it is going to fit on your ring finger!”
“W-What?!”
Mathias put the ring on her finger, “I secretly took your measurements when you didn’t realize it! AH!”
Sophie’s face stiffened, “R-Really?”
“I know that sounded creepy, but I didn’t mean it to! I just have a really observant eye and I wanted to know all of your measurements for my own purpose! AAH!”
Sophie suddenly felt embarrassed, “W-What other measurements did you try to figure out?!”
His mouth moved on its own, “All of them! Including your-”
Mathias smacked his hands over his mouth and screamed. Everyone who had been watching knew just what other measurements he had been taking mentally. Mathias wanted to rip off his tongue. Why was he suddenly shouting all of this?! It wasn’t a lie, but he didn’t understand what was making him spout this embarrassing information!
“HAHAHAHA!” Loud laughter came from behind and everyone looked to see Millie walking into the store holding her stomach, “This is just too great! I knew I had to come watch!”
Mathias looked at her feeling aggravated, “What!? You came here just to watch me die?”
Millie chuckled, “No. I came here to watch you make a fool of yourself.”
“Ugh…” Mathias knew that it was now or never. Mathias turned to Sophie, “Please marry my perverted self because I love you more than life itself and I can’t imagine it without you by my side!”
Sophie’s lip trembled as her eyes watered, “Mathias…”
He panicked, “DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?! Oh no! I can’t live knowing-”
She placed her finger over his lips. She gave a chuckle, “Yes. I will marry you.”
Mathias beamed with happiness as he kissed her lovingly, “I love you Sophie!”
“I love you Mathias!” She cried back in happy tears.
As Mathias hugged her, he spoke, “It’s a shame I am going to die by your sister poisoning me.”
Sophie hugged him back, “Yes, right my sister-WHAT!?”
Mathias explained, “Millie said I was being annoying and injected me with a poison that only she had a cure for.”
Millie chuckled at their frightened appearances, “Relax. It was just a truth serum. It wasn’t actually going to kill you.”
Sophie: “…”
Mathias shouted out, “A truth serum?!”
Millie nodded, “Aren’t you impressed? I didn’t think it would have such a good effect.”
“I AM DEATHLY TERRIFIED OF YOU!” Mathias clamped his hands over his mouth with wide eyes.
Millie’s face twitched. She forced on a smile, “Eh?”
Mathias couldn’t contain the truth from being shouted, “I have nightmares that you chase me around and I really wish you would just disappear because I am pretty sure you are making my life shorter by several years and I really wish you weren’t going to become my sister-in-law but there is nothing I can do about it!”
Millie forced on a smile as she stepped closer to him, “Watch what you say… Brother-in-law.”
His face grew darker, “I’m going to pee my pants…”
Sophie patted his back, “There, there… You will get used to it eventually.”
He looked at her with a twinge of hope, “Really?”
“…No…”
“…”
