The Simple Life of Killing Demons - Book 12: Chapter 67
Volume 12 Chapter 67 : Counterattack Battle (1)
War was a chaotic affair. After a roar, the demon soldiers and spirits charged towards each other.
Leading the charge at the forefront was Lin Xiang. A glint of cold light was flashing as he swung his cold sword. Lin Xiang effortlessly cleaved through the approaching demon soldiers, leaving faint traces of frost in the air. The demon soldiers turned into ice and shattered in half.
“Oh?” Just before his line of sight was obstructed by the demon soldiers in front of him, the bull-headed demon of the demon clan caught sight of the scene, his gaze was fixated on the cold sword in Lin Xiang’s hand.
“Crack.” (Sound of ice shattering)
Once again, Lin Xiang severed the demon soldiers. With the cold sword in hand, Lin Xiang felt that it was remarkably easy to deal with those demon soldiers, especially when he was entering his wind speed state. The movements of the demon soldiers seemed to be played in a slow speed.
Yalide was right, having a good weapon could significantly enhance one’s personal strength. At that moment, Lin Xiang was brimming with confidence.
“Thud, thud, thud.” The huge demonic insect swung its insectoid legs, lowered its head and charged straight at Lin Xiang. It paid no mind to the surrounding demon soldiers in its way, sending them into the air as it was approaching Lin Xiang.
Behind Lin Xiang were the spirits, so he naturally would not choose to evade. Taking a deep breath, h unleashed the Dragon Roar of Madness, resounding through the air.
The dragon roar collided with the huge demonic insect head-on, and the shockwaves sent those demon soldiers, who had just managed to stand up after being knocked down, flying once more. The huge demonic insect obviously came prepared this time as it was not flipped over again.
Nevertheless, its speed had decreased significantly. With a leap, Lin Xiang raised his cold sword and thrust it towards the creature’s insect head.
“Clank.” A fire blazed, but the cold sword failed to pierce through the tough shell of the demonic insect’s head.
The demonic insect also swung its head violently, flinging Lin Xiang away.
In a somersault, Lin Xiang landed back on the ground. The battle between the demon soldiers and the spirits was already underway, so the scene was fierce and intense. Basically, five spirits were fighting against one demon soldier, but the spirits seemed to be struggling. Some of them were even killed by the demon soldiers due to their lack of combat experience.
Glancing at the huge demonic insect again, it began to sway its limbs, and Lin Xiang immediately understood that it was definitely going to prepare for another charge in his direction again.
However, this time, it was more complicated. The crowd of spirits had already dispersed, so if it charged again, it would definitely impact the spirits engaged in combat with the demon soldiers.
Noticing that Lin Xiang was distracted, a demon soldier attempted to sneak an attack from behind Lin Xiang from behind. A bolt of golden lightning struck from the sky, hitting the demon soldier on the head, which stopped its actions. It did not die though. Instead, black smoke billowed from its body as its body flashed with electricity. It might have been temporarily stunned.
“Idiot! Watch your back!” Reidy shouted loudly.
“Sorry, sorry.” Lin Xiang swiftly lashed and killed the demon soldier. He also understood that he could not afford to lose focus during a battle. However, he had to stop the demonic insect and prevent it from crashing into the spirits.
‘Freed, does it have any other weaknesses?’ Lin Xiang inquired. When he had leaped and attacked the demonic insect’s head with his cold sword earlier, it was Freed who told him that the demonic energy core of the demonic insect was in its head.
The demonic energy core of the demonic insect, as the name suggested, was the core of energy, which was similar to the magic crystal of the spirits. It was a place where energy was stored and released, functioning like a human heart.
‘Get in front of it first and attack it with your dragon roar. It will then confront your dragon roar on its own. When the time comes, all its limbs will exert force, and the connection between its body and limbs will be exposed. That area is soft, so it would be its weak point. Cut off its limbs to restrict its movements.’
Lin Xiang expressed his understanding with a nod. As he entered the wind speed state, he arrived in front of the demonic insect as it began to charge forward. He then unleashed the Dragon Roar of Madness.
Silent Water, Reidy and others launched magic attacks from a distance, and they were accompanied by magic-capable spirits. Although the magic of those spirits was much weaker than theirs, the combined strength of their weak powers made them formidable.
The demon soldiers were momentarily blocked at the city gate, unable to invade the city further.
On the city gate, the number of demonic insects had significantly decreased. As the city gate was breached, all those on the ground entered through the city gate.
“Our Sir Lin Xiang is back! Hold on a little longer, everyone! We must not lose to these invading monsters!” The commander of the soldiers shouted, and the exhausted soldiers and guards rekindled their fighting spirits.
Wind Chimes heaved a sigh of relief. She looked at the demonic insect she had sliced open with the wind, then suddenly showed a mysterious smile. She picked up two knives, thrusting them into the demonic insect, and extracting a small black substance the size of a grain of rice.
“So, this is their magic crystal… It exudes dark energy on the outside. Although it might seem very weak, the power it contains is not small…”
Wind Chimes dug out a few more. Her accuracy was very precise as she targeted all the heads of the demonic insects. Moreover, the soldiers and guards were able to prevent the demonic insects from running into the city in large numbers, because Wind Chimes had instructed them to attack the demonic insects’ heads.
Earlier, she started with an experiment. First, she attacked the abdomen, the chest, then the head, to which she found that as long as their heads were pierced, it would lead to an instant death, while piercing other parts would not necessarily kill them. Although the important part of the creature was the head, Wind Chimes believed that there must be something in there… Yes, such as an object similar to the magic crystal of the spirits. Additionally, the fluid splattered from the demonic insects’ heads was also the least.
After picking out a few more demonic energy cores, Wind Chimes tore off a piece of her clothing to wrap the demonic cores.
Since she was wearing human clothes, tearing off a piece of her cloth exposed her white belly, yet she did not seem to mind at all.
After keeping the demonic cores well, Wind Chimes felt an unusual breeze blowing from behind her. She spun around abruptly to find a “person” with bronze skin and pure white eyes. The “person” had both hands crossed over their chest, standing on the city wall with a faint smile while observing Wind Chimes.
“You enjoy researching, don’t you?”
“A little. So, you must be the commander.” Wind Chimes stood up, speaking as naturally as if she was chatting with an acquaintance.
“I dared not call myself a commander, but more of someone who leads the team. What is it? Just as I find you interesting, do you find me interesting as well?”
“Yes, indeed. I do find all of you interesting.”
“All of you? Am I not the only one you find interest in? That really hurts me.” The female demon of the demon clan wiped away her imaginary tears from her eye with her finger, then reverted to her normal demeanor, “Why don’t you join us? Everything you desire will be within your grasp.”
“Join you?” Wind Chimes chuckled as her eyes were filled with a hint of playfulness, “What if I say no?”
“Miss Wind Chimes, step back,” at that moment, a guard spotted the female demon clan and rushed towards her with a weapon in hand.
The female demon flicked her hand at the guard, and a sharp gust of wind struck the guard, who had no time to dodge, like a blade. With a clanking sound, the guard’s armor fell to the ground. Illuminated by the light of the surrounding torches, blood splattered and the guard immediately collapsed to the ground.
Wind Chimes’s expression changed.
The female demon of the clan pursed her lips. Her smile was sly as she uttered a few words, “You will agree to it.”
