The Star In The Midnight Rain - Chapter 22 Trick In The Rain
I was woken up by my alarm.
Right after I woke up, I took a shower and got ready for work. I took out a mini yogurt and a plastic spoon.
When I was about to get in my car. Someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw him.
“What’s up?” I said.
“I will drop you off, for your safety,” He said.
“No it’s fine,” I said.
I opened the door and he closed it.
I looked at him with anger.
“Look I don’t even know you. Can you leave me alone?”
“Last night it was late so I let you stay,” I said.
I then opened the door and got inside my car. He looked at me in shock.
I drove to work. But I felt something wasn’t right. I thought of Ji-Wook again, and I started crying. Why did he play me like that? I stop can’t think of the past. But I have to move on.
I turned the car around and drove back home. He was still there. I ran to him and hugged him.
“Why do I always run away?” I said.
He hugged me back.
“Don’t leave me like them, please,” I said.
Why was I acting like this? Is this what happens when someone cares for you? No one has ever cared for me.
Like he has.
“I won’t leave you,” He said. I then got in his car, and he drove me to work.
“You’re wearing a suit, are you a CEO or something?” I asked him.
“No, I am a Prosecutor,” He said.
I nodded.
“You’re dressed like a teacher for a police officer,” He said.
I laughed. “What’s so bad?” I said.
I was wearing a trench coat, a whiter shirt with jeans. For footwear, I was wearing converse.
“Ah I see now,” I said. He then smiled.
“I didn’t catch your name?” I said.
“Park Hae-Jin,” He said.
“Nice to meet you, oh I am Oh Chae-young but you can call me Jen,” I said.
We then talked and got to know each other. By the time he dropped me off at work, it felt like I had known him for years.
When I got to work I was in a good mood.
Kassy came to me and hugged me.
“You’re alive,” She said.
My team had surrounded me.
“Thanks, but I called you last night,” I said.
“I know I was just checking,” She said.
I smiled at her.
“Did you just smile,” said Min-Jun.
Everyone looked at me shocked.
“Stop looking at me like that,” I said.
They did and we got back to work. I took out my yogurt and ate it while typing.
By 1:30 p.m. it was lunchtime.
“Hey, Sora is here to have lunch with you,” said Min-Jun.
I nodded and left.
“Hey,” She said.
“What’s up,” I said.
“Nothing much, and you,” She said.
“Same as you but why did you drive all the way here?” I asked.
“I took a day off,” She said.
I nodded. She took out food and we ate together while talking. Then I saw a man kidnapping a girl. I ran to them. Sora got the girl and the man ran.
I ran after him. I ran the fastest I could. Then I caught him.
While huffing for breath I put his hand behind his back.
After an hour of questioning him.
All he said was “This is nothing, just you wait. 2 block to the left of me.”
I tried to think and find out what he was trying to say. I looked at my watch.
“Oh no, I am late,” I said.
I took my stuff and called a cab. It then dropped me off at Hae-Jin’s workplace. I walked in and asked for him at the reception. They told me to wait at the lounge.
I waited and in about 16 minutes he came out. But he was with a girl.
“Come on just go on a date with me already,” She was saying to him.
When he got to the reception, the receptionist pointed me out. I was reading the news.
He tapped my shoulder and I flinched.
“Are you done?” I asked and he nodded.
I then looked at the girl. She was giving me a salty look. I then flipped my hair and winked at her.
She rolled her eyes, and I was laughing.
“Why are you laughing?” He asked me.
“No reason,” I said.
We drove home and when we got outside it started raining.
I stopped in the rain and thought of what the kidnapper had said.
“You coming?” He said.
It then clicked my mind.
I started running.
Left of me was a street not far from where I lived.
As I ran Hae-Jin came after me. I then stopped and looked around 2 blocks. I saw a cafe called 2 blocks. I looked up and it was dark. I went to the alley and climbed up.
“Oh my god,” I said.
There were about forty or so children.
I ran back to the front. I asked the cafe worker how to get to the top. She said, “There is a stairway there.” I nodded and thanked her.
I ran up to the stairway and saw a door that was locked.
“Shit,” I said.
Hae-Jin came in.
“What was that?” He said.
I took a pin from my hair and unlocked it. I ran up the stairs and saw the children.
Then a boy around 14 came to me and said “Please leave.”
I looked at him and he had a bomb on him. I gasped.
I took out my phone and gave it to Hae-Jin.
“Call an ID that says Smart Idiot,” I said.
He called Chan-Woo.
“Hello?” He answered and said.
“Bro a 345-G bomb,” I said.
“How many minutes left?” He said.
“2 minutes and 40 seconds,” I said.
“How many cords?” He asked.
“Seven in rainbow color in rainbow order,” I said.
“All right,” He said.
I then looked at it closely and saw it.
“Blue,” we both said together.
I cut the blue one and it stopped.
I sighed. The police came and the kids were free. Hae-Jin then said, “I wanna look cool as well.”
I laughed and he back hugged me.
“I am glad your okay,” He said.
