The Star In The Midnight Rain - Chapter 24 Lets Change
That night we decided to stay at a hotel. When I fell asleep I dreamed of what the lady, Mrs.Kang had told us.
Three hours ago when we were still at Mrs. Kang’s place.
“Your mother was a little different than the rest. She was the most beautiful person I ever knew, so kind yet smart,” Mrs. Kang was saying but she stopped and started crying.
Sora got closer to her and hugged her. I then asked her if I could take a look around her house and she nodded.
I went upstairs and saw a photo. It was a picture of Mrs.Kang and other women. The women in the middle I recognized right away.
I put my finger on her and said “Mother.”
Sora heard me and ran upstairs. She looked at her then at me.
“We have been friends since Kindergarten,” said Mrs. Kang.
She is really beautiful. I thought to myself while looking at her photo.
“Her biggest mistake was being too nice,” said Mrs. Kang.
She then told us more about our parents, later before we left she gave us two letters with our on it names.
“She wrote these for you,” said Mrs. Kang.
I realized the letter. I woke up, got out of bed, and opened the letter.
“Dear ChaeYoung,
By the time you read this, you have become a big girl. I don’t know how to explain my feelings, but I know you will grow up to be a beautiful and smart girl. I missed your firsts but I probably saw them for heaven. As I write this, I don’t know what to write but I want to tell you something important which is never to think you’re not loved because your mother loves you. Take care of your sister and lastly become an amazing person. I love you and always remember that. Maybe this was my punishment for being too nice, I would give up anything to be with you, but nothing is just given, you have to lose something to gain something. You lost me to gain yourself a life. Remember to live life well and don’t waste it, life is short. My sweet honey I am so sorry. Don’t blame anyone but me.
Sincerely,
Your mother.”
I started crying while the paper crumbled on my hand.
“You would have been a great mother,” I said.
Behind the letter, I saw a photo and a note.
The photo was of her carrying me and Sora after giving birth to us, and my father was hugging her.
“Take care, I love y,” the note ended and there was blood on it.
I couldn’t help but cry more.
“Because of them, your gone,”
“I will take revenge,” I said.
The next day we went to an address given to us by Mrs. Kang.
When we got there, it was an old building, and you asked for Mrs. Hwan. When you guys were in front of the door, it opened by itself, and you looked at each other in surprise.
A woman popped out and you recognized her for yesterday’s picture.
“Mrs. Hwan?” said Sora.
She nodded and pointed us to come in.
We came in and she told us a lot but before we left she said: “Your mother is alive.”
We asked her where, how and everything but she said “All I know is that she is somewhere in Paris. Hiding like all of us.”
We didn’t know what to say or feel. After we left it was quiet until that night at 2:25 am someone knocked on my door. I got out of bed and walked to the door. Before I opened the door I checked who it was.
I opened the door and said, “What’s wrong?”
“My stomach is hurting really bad,” said Sora.
When I looked at her she was sweating as she had just taken a shower.
I then drove her to the hospital and called Mrs. Kang.
“Hello?” She said.
“Hi, is this Mrs.Kang?” I said.
“Yeah, do I know you? She said.
“It’s Chae-Young, so sora is sick, is it okay if you come to ****** hospital?” I asked.
“Of course sweetie I will be right there?” She said and ended the call.
I wrote a note and left it at the reception. I then took a taxi to the airport.
When I got there I looked around and ran to the monitor and looked at it.
“I am not late,” I said and ran.
While running I showed my id that way they wouldn’t question me. When I got to the terminal, I saw him.
“YOU RIGHT THERE,” I shouted and he stopped and turned around.
“Is there a problem?” said his guards.
I walked to him and he gestured to his guard to stay back. I then started running and hugged him.
“I missed you so much,” I said.
“I missed you too,” He said while hugging me back.
For a moment I forgot about everything. I was finally in the arms of someone who cared about me.
“I need your help,” I told him while breaking the hug.
“What’s up?” He said while taking my hand and leading me to a seat.
“I need a bit of your blood,” I said.
“For?” He said
“I can’t tell you yet but just trust me,” I said with a hopeful face.
“Please, uncle.”
“Fine,” He said.
In about two hours I had his blood with me. I thanked him and left. I went back to the hospital and gave the nurse money to inject it into me and Sora without anyone knowing.
She agreed and after injection, I blacked out.
When I woke up I felt different. Stronger and better than before.
“Step one: Complete,” I said to myself.
Maybe I could live better. I had hope. But I would have to lie. I will have to survive with a smile and
“A plan,” I thought to myself.
It feels good having this much power. A power that is possessed by my own blood.
