The Star of Annihilation - Chapter 84
“Huhuhu…”
Mathilde giggled as she could clearly understand what Roy was thinking at that moment.
His eyes seemed to already have taken the shape of kebabs as Roy was clearly hungry.
“Just a bit longer kid, we’re almost there.”
Lucius chided and elbowed Roy to get his overeager self back inside the carriage and to stop drawing so much attention.
Roy grumbled and went back into the carriage.
There was a bit of a lengthy process for officials to go through when they were being escorted as one of the formal parties invited to the Tournament of Young Lions.
They only had one day left to finish registration and enter but luckily they were at Ezrest presently.
The next day would be the Gala for the participants of the Tournament and the envoys of each continental power.
After the Gala, the next day would be the official start of the actual Tournament.
Roy had not reached 5-stars, nor had he reached the third awakening of swordsmanship that would allow him to see the grains of the world’s flaws.
Regardless, it was not for naught.
Lucius figured that Roy could already compete with his current level, although it would require Roy to give everything he had and a little bit of luck to get far.
Winning the tournament would be out of his scope of view if Lucius was being objective.
“You haven’t talked to your friends yet, have you?”
Lucius asked as Roy sat back down.
He already knew Roy hadn’t but that was why he was asking the question. He needed to bring it up since the Tournament would be soon.
“No. I haven’t talked to them since I’ve woken up.”
As Roy said this, he instinctively looked at the tattoo on his arm and tried to inject mana into it, but it was cut-off as if there was never a connection in the first place.
Ifrit still wouldn’t wake up since the last fight and Roy didn’t know what was going on with him.
“We can meet up with them once we get to our lodging then. If you want to, that is.”
Lucius didn’t really know what his disciple might want to do, but he figured he might at least want to communicate with his friends since he had been knocked unconscious for quite a while and had to leave as soon as he woke up for the tournament.
“I’d like that.”
Roy nodded his head with a faint smile.
* * *
As the gate and security checks went by pretty fast, Roy was able to get out into the street once he set his things in the inn they were checked in to.
Looking at the lavish, brick road that reminded him of Lazarus, Roy was reminded of just how shabby a village like Kerto was; where he grew up.
The street was filled with several people traveling in different directions, and Lucius came out of the doors to the inn as he came up behind Roy.
“Well, it’ll be pretty hard to look for them as it is right now…”
“It’s alright, I’m a magic swordsman remember? That means I have spells, not just swordsmanship.”
Lucius smiled awkwardly at Roy’s retort.
Although Roy didn’t use spells a lot when he was sparring with Lucius, Lucius almost seemed to forget that magic was Roy’s origin in the first place.
Although for Roy, magic was his first and truest of loves.
Letting the mana course through his body, Roy let the mana channel upwards from his core and settle in his eyes as he cast a spell silently.
[Signature]
Signature was a 3-star spell that allowed the caster to retrieve information on anything it had been in close contact with in a period of time. It was limited in information as it would only show location of anything the caster had been around for a prolonged period of time, but it was perfect for things like missing weapons, keys to houses, or finding out where friends were.
The only downside was that it wouldn’t work if the caster was looking for an individual who could erase their presence entirely or was good with erasing their tracks.
But in this case, it was perfect since Roy was able to spot the figures of 4 individuals through the several outlines of people in the crowd.
Everything in his sight was like viewing reality through a dark blue filter, and the outlines of the people he wanted to see were bright green.
“Let’s go.”
Roy turned his head to Lucius and pointed his chin in the direction of where his friends were.
Lucius smiled and nodded.
His disciple was still a very good one. Although Lucius sometimes grew worried in his mind that he might be pushing Roy too far at times, Roy was still a boy at heart in his mind.
As they moved through the crowded roads, Lucius thought about the time Roy had awakened his 4-star level.
There was something else hidden in Roy’s eyes that time. Roy was in a state of subconscious movement, half-present and half-invested in the awakening and devouring the content of the swordsmanship style he was forging at the time.
But within Roy’s eyes, Lucius had seen something he had never seen within a boy- let alone adults.
They were the eyes of someone who had faced defeat, hopelessness, rage and much more. It was difficult to comprehend, but Lucius had seen those very eyes before.
They were the eyes he had seen in his comrades during the Great Demon war with the Empire. His comrades who had died, felt wronged at their unjust deaths, wanting nothing but vengeance for their killers.
‘Why would a child at 14 years of age have something like that? Even if he was only half-conscious, that’s not something a boy should ever have.’
Roy may be his disciple, but there were still many mysteries that he had that not even the Emperor could decipher through the mirror artifact below the palace.
The Dragons’ ire, the constant luck Roy had, and not only that… but even his friends had incredible luck that just seemed almost too coincidental.
Lucius decided he would likely ask another time when Roy was ready to open up, since although Lucius didn’t mean to, he had overheard Mathilde and Roy’s conversation the other night and heard of the tragic father that the boy’s father had met.
As they moved through the crowd, Roy looked up at something that had caught his eye from the moment they had arrived in Ezrest.
“Looking at it up close, it really is big.”
Roy spoke while they moved.
Lucius got out of his reverie and looked at what Roy had his eyes pointed at.
“It is. You’re not getting goosebumps now, are you?”
“No way.”
Roy laughed as if it were a joke.
But inside, he definitely felt the chills.
As they moved towards the location of Roy’s friends, Roy and Lucius looked at one thing.
It was daunting as ever and the entire population of Ezrest could also agree.
The largest colosseum in the entire world.
The Tournament Venue for the Tournament of Young Lions and was able to house over five hundred thousand occupants.
It was known as the Cathedral.

Author Note : (This is a short chapter, I know. But there will be some very lengthy chapters coming in the next few weeks. Also… for reference, the largest stadium in the world can only house 132,000 people. This is just a reference since I was hoping for you all to understand just how big the setting of the tournament will be.)
