In the end Bai Yutang can’t cook a decent breakfast for his lover’s birthday. He didn’t know whether he had to smile or angry when his lover told him that their morning entanglement is the best breakfast for his lover’s birthday.

He finally settled with making a simple fried egg and eating it with milky bread. They didn’t rush to eat their simple breakfast. It was not enough, but they will have another big lunch today, so this simple breakfast is at least adequate to hold their hunger until later.

“Wow, is this a new tradition for birthdays? Since when have we had this kind of bird nest soup and abalone for lunch?”

His mother was preparing the food with his kitten’s help. She was smiling at his kitten before answering Jian Kang Lu. “Later you’ll hear where this comes from.”

His kitten still looked awkward and clumsy near his mother, but Jian Kang Lu was happy that his parents didn’t seem to be asking much about him even though it was definitely suspicious for both of them.

To his surprise, not even his brother asked about Bai Yutang to him. He was already prepared to point out all Bai Yutang’s good points and advantages if his family asked him. And slowly he will point out that Bai Yutang was the most important person he held in his heart. He believes his family won’t oppose him.

What else could his family do to prevent him spending the rest of his life with his kitten? He had a stable job, could support himself, and a respectable position in the hospital. He could only hope that his family won’t hate and mistreat his beloved kitten. He thinks he really can’t stand to see his kitten sad because of these things.

They spend the lunch well. But there’s some slightly uncomfortable mood when his father asks Bai Yutang about his family.

“Yutang, what are your parents doing? They lived in W city, right?”

Bai Yutang was a little startled to hear Jian Kang Lu’s father’s question. His lover’s father seldom talked to him.

“My father used to be a contractor, and my mother now works in the restaurant, uncle.” Bai Yutang answered slowly. It was not embarrassing to state his mother working in the restaurant, but somehow he buried an inferiority inside his heart which rose due to the question.

“Used to? What is your father doing now?”

“My father passed away two years ago, uncle.”

There’s a silence who almost killed the lunch mood at the table. Jian Kang Lu’s mother then took over the conversation.

“My condolences, TangTang. It must be hard for your mother.”

Bai Yutang tried to smile even though the deep sorrow buried within was cracked open again. “Yes it was. My father pampered my mother so much, so it was really hard for her to accept it. But she was okay now.”

Fan Mingle tried to cheer up the situation. “No wonder your cooking skill surpasses mine, TangTang. It must be inherited from your mother. She worked at the restaurant, right? As a chef?”

Bai Yutang calmly tried to swallow his bird nest soup. “My mother’s cooking skill is even worse than you, Fan Jie. She was working in the small restaurant near our house, just to help in the kitchen.”

Now the mood was even worse. Jian Kang Lu tried to save this gloomy mood. “TangTang and his sister are really smart. Both of them receive full scholarships for their education. His sister is studying medical too.”

Jian Kang Lu’s mother hurriedly brightened her tone, “Oh really? Your parents must be proud of both of you. Where did your sister study? Is there any doctor in your family too?”

Bai Yutang smiled, and thanked his lover. Bai Yutang knew the only things he could proudly present to his lover’s family is that he was sensible and smart. Though it doesn’t mean much to brag about that to them, since his lover and his future brother in law are also unfairly smart and good looking, with respectable and successful careers.

“No one become doctor in our family, auntie. My sister will be the first. She is currently studying in W university. Honestly, she became a doctor because of Jian Ge.”

“Oh really? How so?” Fan Mingle asked him.

Bai Yutang told them about her sister, then Jian Kang Lu steered the conversation away from his kitten.

“So, what about this extravagant lunch? Don’t tell me this is just for my birthday? I can’t believe it.”

Jian Kang Se chuckled, “Right, this is my treat. You need to congratulate me, gege. I was promoted to be head of treasury.”

“How could you bring cheap wine to this house? Not afraid of our great father’s famous four hour course?”

Both of them chuckled, since their father was famous to be picky about wine. Jian Shen was never picky with his food nor his clothes, but didn’t ever give him a cheap low quality wine. If someone dares to make him taste a low quality wine, he definitely will lecturing that person with his profound knowledge of wine tasting.

Bai Yutang congratulated his future brother in law. He might not really understand what the treasury is doing in the bank, but more or less he knew his future brother in law was dealing with managing the bank’s internal assets.

After that the little bun next to Bai Yutang is also busy asking questions to him, and also pestering him to teach him drawing again. Jian Kang Lu slowly stroked his kitten’s arms. “I was thinking we could move temporarily while being renovated. How about if we moved to somewhere near your campus until it was done?”

Bai Yutang was stunned. He understood what his lover meant with this. He can’t help to turn his body and hug his lover tight. Renovation was only a pretence. His lover just doesn’t want him to get too tired with his final project, and afraid about him going back late at night using public transportation.

“I think that will be great, gege..” Bai Yutang said softly. He won’t reject his lover’s good intention. It was also better if his lover doesn’t have to worry about him. “I’ll look for some apartment nearby, and will let you know for you to choose.”

Jian Kang Lu kissed his kitten’s head, softly inhaling his kitten’s scent. “Just choose which is the most comfortable for you and show me. I’ll take care about everything else.”

Bai Yutang closed his eyes. His body is warm, as warm as his heart right now. He didn’t need to say thank you, but he can’t even describe what kind of gratitude he felt toward his lover right now.
