The Stars In Your Eyes - Chapter 230
The reason why Jian Kang Lu choose C country to have his wedding was not only because the country legalised same sex marriage even for foreigner, but also because the country allow surrogacy in legal term.
Actually, there’s so many couples who are grateful for the surrogation method. It was not only intended for same sex couple, but also for heterosexual couple.
If the heterosexual couple have body condition that not suitable for pregnancy, they will use surrogacy mother help to carry their baby for them. For example, women who were born without uterus, severe heart condition, autoimmune disease, and many more.
Men also could benefit from it, not only for couples like Jian Kang Lu and Bai Yutang. For example, the men who have rare genetic or hormone disorders, or the men who are infertile from cancer treatment.
Jian Kang Lu had asked for the surrogacy in some other country too, and he intended to let his little husband choose for himself.
Bai Yutang had read the information provided by the agency, yet when he stepped into the agency office, he still had so many questions.
There’s a reason why Jian Kang Lu wants to have an unknown egg donor and surrogate mother. He didn’t want to have moral and legal implications in the future if someday their children asked about their mother.
It sounds very cruel, and many couples choose the friendly way. Such as asking their friend to donate the egg, and let them contact the surrogate mother to build the harmonious process of pregnancy.
This is what’s in Bai Yutang’s mind also. He throws so many questions and arguments to Jian Kang Lu about this. He truly doesn’t mind if their children want to meet their mother or the surrogate mother someday.
Jian Kang Lu only admired and adored his pure little husband. Bai Yutang truly acts like what his name means, a pure white person.
Jian Kang Lu might look like a gentle and kind man to Bai Yutang, but inside, he knows and fears how humans could change easily.
Even between parents or blood related siblings, things were not always pretty. How many cases in the court where they have a trial of siblings fight for inheritance? Or parents shamelessly slander their child to get benefit?
Jian Kang Lu only wants to protect his future child from any legal problem who could latch a dark and deep scar to their children. Who could guarantee the surrogate mother or the egg donor will always be gentle and kind to them?
And how if they also have children on their own? Does it not make them become half siblings with someone who they are not familiar with?
This is Bai Yutang’s question to Jian Kang Lu, “What if they fall in love with their half sibling?”
Jian Kang Lu calmly said, “They surely will know that they were born from surrogacy. For every partner they fall in love with in the future, we will ask them for a DNA test.”
This left Bai Yutang speechless.
It might not happen, but in this world, only one thing which could be guaranteed will happen. Only death, one thing will surely happen to all living things in the world. The other is only possibilities.
Jian Kang Lu coaxed his little husband well until he surrendered and followed what Jian Kang Lu wanted. A total blind surrogacy for both of them.
Compared to the USA, surrogacy in C country is a lot cheaper, but has few restrictions. After two days going to three different agencies, Jian Kang Lu found out the surrogacy in C country would not allow him to have total blind surrogacy. The intended parent needs to commit to a relationship with their surrogate mother. This leaves him no option except to switch to a USA agency.
Bai Yutang tries to urge his husband once again, “Let’s just do it here, gege.. I think it’s wonderful to follow the pregnancy process with the surrogate mother.”
Even though this idea of having babies comes from his mother, Bai Yutang knows he will love their children just like any parent in this world. Men do not have privilege like women who can conceive and have emotional bonds with their babies from the beginning.
Bai Yutang resolutely doesn’t want their children to feel that they were born because of his mother’s request. He remembers how his father loved him so much, and raised him well. He wants to become a father who is as good as his own.
He will not wronged their children. That’s why in his mind, he wants his children to have rights to know the women who conceive and give birth to them.
But in this case, Jian Kang Lu resolutely doesn’t want to back off from his own decision. It doesn’t matter if their children are destined to become ordinary people. But what if their children were so gifted and became someone big?
Just imagine a Bill Gates or an Elon Musk is born from surrogacy, then someday a lot of people claim to become their half relatives and want to earn some benefit from them? Or worse, if their children become public figures or politicians, and their half relatives turn out to become terrorists or criminals?
Jian Kang Lu knows he might be selfish and paranoid, but he doesn’t want to give room for future disaster.
Bai Yutang knew how hard his husband could be, he sighed and could only follow what his husband intended to do.
They were flying back to their country and decided to use winter break to go to the USA. In the 5 months they spent before winter break, they already contacted so many surrogation agencies and finally settled with one.
Bai Yutang was amazed with how this agency asks which egg donor they want. Of course they could not see the face or the name of the donor, but they could get a description of the race, height, intelligence, blood type, even their eyes and hair colour.
“Isn’t it a little bit.. Racist?” Bai Yutang asked? He felt it a little bit awkward to choose the donors like choosing things from the market.
Turns out, so many reasons are provided to let the intended parent choose their egg donors, or sperm donors. Many people who were not blessed with children and yet their beloved leave them forever. Some of them ease their sadness and depression by looking for donors with criteria close to their deceased partner.
Or, for the infertile couple, they don’t want their children to find out that they were born from surrogation, nor did they not actually have their parent’s genes. So, the intended parent will choose the donor who is as close as to their own appearance.
Bai Yutang felt this was reasonable after listening to the explanation from the agent.
So, with a little voice, while lying in their bedroom, he said to his husband, “Gege.. Can I choose an egg donor who is similar to you?”
Jian Kang Lu smiled and ruffled his little husband’s hair, “Anything you want, baby.”
Bai Yutang’s hand is still holding the tablet, reading the information provided by the agency. “What about you, gege?”
Jian Kang Lu thought, once again, he didn’t have preferences nor want to choose. Thus he said, “I’ll let the agency choose for me randomly, how about that? No matter what, we still will love them the same anyway.”
“Okay!” Bai Yutang said.
Jian Kang Lu looking at his little husband, his heart was full of love. No words could describe how the heart could swell from over love.
It was clear that his little husband was not planning to have children, but now he was the one who was anxious and happily reading everything about surrogacy, pregnancy, and how to take care of their children.
They have already been together for almost 7 years. It was not a short time, but Jian Kang Lu felt it was just like yesterday when they had their first kiss in a hotel in Boston.
With 5 months preparation, the couple goes to USA to give their sperm and start the In Vitro Fertilisation process. For Bai Yutang’s sperm, they will do the Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis first since Lu Hua’s requirement is for Bai Yutang to have a son. Meanwhile Jian Kang Lu didn’t have any requirement nor did he want to know the gender until the baby was born.
The process is so damn expensive, yet Jian Kang Lu didn’t let his little husband know.
After 6 week, the agent told them that the baby was successfully conceived. Bai Yutang’s baby was conceived earlier since the process is more complicated so they decide to start with Bai Yutang’s first before Jian Kang Lu’s.
Even though they choose total blind surrogacy, it doesn’t mean they can’t have reports about the pregnancy process.
Jian Kang Lu himself couldn’t believe he could feel a surge of raw emotion wash him away when he saw the first ultrasound pictures from the babies. To see that tiny little dot who will grow into a little creature from his little husband, and also his own, is a surreal feeling he could not describe.
Since then, he diligently asked the agency to give them ultrasound pictures and videos every month.
Looking at the pictures and the videos is their pure happiness in the middle of their own dissertation. Jian Kang Lu’s research is almost done. He speeds up the process, for he strives to finish and get his PhD before the babies are born.
When the pregnancy reached 14 weeks on Bai Yutang’s birthday, Jian Kang Lu requested the agency to hold the picture and videos of his own, only to send Bai Yutang’s.
“Isn’t it wonderful to be surprised later when we see the baby? No matter what gender or how they look, we still love them the same.” He said.
Bai Yutang diligently sending the list of classical songs he politely request the surrogate mother to let their babies listen to it.
Even though the babies were conceived by two different mothers, Bai Yutang hoped the siblings will have their bond formed early on. Because honestly, they will have completely different bloodlines.
In July, both of them completed their postgrad. While Jian Kang Lu is still as busy as before with his research publication and working in the hospital, Bai Yutang accepts he needs to be unemployed before he starts looking for a job.
Since they need to take care of two babies, Bai Yutang felt he can’t work before the babies settled.
Lin Caihong elated and told the couple frantically, “Just move and live here first! I could help both of you take care of the babies. The room in the house is spacious, you could also hire nannies to take care of the babies! No need to worry, just work if you want to work, or you could wait until the babies grow up.”
Since they were both men without experience, and also it was not good for Bai Yutang’s career if he didn’t work, both of them finally agreed under Lin Caihong coercion.
In August, Bai Yutang was busy accompanying Lin Caihong to decorate the empty room next to Jian Kang Lu’s room, which is Jian Kang Se’s ex room, to become the baby’s room.
Bai Yutang had to restrain Lin Caihong to buy everything in the store. Bai Yutang almost vomited blood to see how baby clothes and necessities were so damn expensive.
“Mother.. Please.. We don’t need to buy this.” Bai Yutang returns the clothes for 1 to 2 year old babies. The babies are not yet born, so why do they need to buy these big clothes and even small tricycle???
“Don’t you know that babies grow so fast!” Lin Caihong still insists on putting the cute dinosaur pajamas into the cart.
With a great effort, Bai Yutang finally won the argument with his mother in law.
In September, the babies were born. A 3,4 kg baby boy born in early September, while a 3,7 baby girl born three weeks later.
