The Stars In Your Eyes - Chapter 239
Lu Hua was ashamed. But she held her head high to hide her shame. “Yes.”
Little did she know that her voice betrayed her. It was a voice full of guilt and regret.
Yet, it seems that Mrs. Han didn’t notice that. Her thin and small face blanked. Her eyes are hollow. Her voice is trembling once she gathers her mind. She came here for a purpose.
“Jiejie.. I need your help. I.. I was truly cornered. You’re my last straw of hope.”
Lu Hua saw so many relatives who had this same opening when they visited her. She could guess what Mrs. Han wanted. “Are you having difficulties right now? How can I help you?” She gently said.
Mrs. Han lowering her head. Her fingers are so cold, they grip the corner of her skirt tightly. “I.. We, we need your help. Could you lend us some money?”
Lu Hua sighed. She was right. She can’t deny her heart is disappointed. They haven’t contacted each other for two years, and Mrs. Han only comes because of money. “How much?”
Mrs. Han didn’t answer immediately. Her tiny shoulder trembled. She was choked from her tears when she answered, “We need 200,000 yuan. But.. But we know we can’t borrow that much.”
Lu Hua was so shocked to hear that. 200,000 yuan!!! Even his husband’s didn’t leave them that much money when he passed away. She wanted to ask why Mrs. Han needed that much, but she felt it will just poke Mrs. Han’s wound.
But.. As a creditor.. She has the right to know, right?
Lu Hua comes forward and hugs this woman who looks older than her even though she was three years younger than her. “Sshh.. Don’t cry. You could tell me if you want, but I won’t push you.”
Mrs. Han’s tears could not stop once it started to rain down her cheek. Her face was all red, she miserably cried.
“My son.. My son will go to jail if we can’t pay. My husband will also go to jail. Why.. Why is our life so difficult?” Mrs. Han sobbing so hard it ached Lu Hua’s heart.
Lu Hua remembers Mrs. Han’s son. He was two years younger than her own son. He was a bit fat and big compared to his parents. She didn’t exactly remember what he looked like anymore.
“Why?” Lu Hua asked. “Don’t scare me. Why does your husband and your son need to go to jail?”
Mrs. Han sobbing and told Lu Hua the story. She can’t keep her words and story coherently, yet Lu Hua could understand the main story from scattered pieces Mrs. Han uttered.
Mr. Han founded another small construction firm after Bai Haoran passed away. He gathered some of the old workers to work with him. Mr. Han is a good person, he was good at his job. But construction businesses not only need to do a good job. They need to have regular clients. Clients who need to build good relationships.
Without Bai Haoran, the amount of work they did was not good. But it was enough for Mr. Han and his family.
Their son took construction engineering in a low rank university. Mr. Han hoped his son could follow his step, and secretly wished his son could do better than Bai Haoran. Even though his son is not as smart as Bai Yutang, but Mr. Han remember Bai Haoran always say that he also stupid, unlike his children.
Their life is actually not hard, but definitely not as easy as before. Yet his son keeps asking for money, saying that life as a university student is hard.
New handphone, new motorcycle, new clothes, money to play with his friends, and many more excuses. When Mr. Han finally limited his allowance due to their income decreasing, their son told them that he wanted to take an English course.
Mr. Han agreed, he remembered Bai Haoran used to lament that he can’t make connections with foreign companies because he can’t understand English. Six months diligently giving course money to his son, they found that their son was lying to them.
The most difficult year for Mr. Han and his wife was two years ago. The university expelled their son because he didn’t attend his class regularly, and scolded the professor who failed his subject. The university said their son almost hit the teacher who scolded him back.
Right after that, an angry couple comes to their house, tells them that their son trampled their daughter’s innocence. Now the daughter is three months pregnant and they demand Mr. Han’s son to marry their daughter.
When Mr. Han wants to beat his son, the young man throwing a tantrum, destroying their living room.
“That girl is a bitch! Don’t know how many men slept with her before me. She’s the one who seduces me. She’s so cheap, everyone knows! Maybe every man in my class already tasted her body! Why do I need to be responsible for her? Huh!”
Under this turbulence, Mrs. Han fell ill. The girl’s parents were not rich, but one of their relatives is in the military. The family said they will not push Mr. Han’s son takes responsibility, but they will do a DNA test after the girl gives birth. If it is proven that the baby was his son, Mr. Han’s son will go to jail.
The young man who acts like a wild bull suddenly becomes docile, and agrees to marry the girl.
Everyone could guess what kind of marriage was born under this situation. The young man is not happy, the girl is crushed. Don’t ever underestimate a mad young lady. Her act and words are even more vicious than the young man.
Mrs. Han tries to treat the girl really well. She is also a woman. She was disappointed with her own son. But.. A mother’s heart can’t lie.
When she heard the young lady shouting, repeatedly saying that her son is a useless trash, a drop out, a man who can’t give her monthly allowance as much as her parents gave her, Mrs. Han finally can’t take it anymore, she scolds the young lady who just gave birth one month before.
That was the first time Mrs. Han scolded the young girl. Her words also mean, and hurtful. The girl cried so hard, and left the house with her baby, Mrs. Han’s granddaughter.
One month after that, the young lady filed for a divorce to Mrs. Han’s son. Mrs. Han’s son needed to pay monthly allowance to the mother and daughter until the young lady one day remarried.
Mr. Han already told his son to work with him in the firm. He thought, he and Bai Haoran also didn’t have a chance to study in university, yet they still could earn good money.
Mrs. Han didn’t know what influenced her son. She thought he was finally getting better after divorce. He suddenly has money, and even goes to visit his ex daughter in law, flaunting his money. Maybe it was just to preserve his dignity which was trampled down by a woman.
Mr. Han even praised his son for bringing a project to the firm. They thought their son had finally grown up. For a man, it doesn’t matter if he failed his marriage before, he could always look for a better girl in the future.
Three months ago, Mr. Han and his wife finally knew where the money came from. Their own son is embezzling the company money. The firm is not big, the pitiful money he embezzled was enough to collapse their firm.
Their son defended himself, he used the money to bribe officials to give them the project. He said the profit from the project is more than enough to pay the money back.
But then, police come to visit the official and their son is implicated. They need to pay for a lawyer and everything. The firm is on the brink of collapse, and Mr. Han will go to jail.
They try to sell their house and their car. But a house was not that easy to sell. After selling the car and all the jewellery Mrs. Han has, they still need a large amount of money.
They try to borrow from their relatives and friends. But.. Who could help them? Some pity them, and donate a pitiful amount of money they have to help Mrs. Han.
Listening to Mrs. Han’s story, Lu Hua’s heart also hurts and unknowingly, she also cries along with Mrs. Han.
Mrs. Han’s face is messed up. She wailed, “My husband is already old. My son is still young. If they go to jail, how could my husband survive there? And what about my son’s future? And me? I just want to live peacefully in my old age. Now I might live alone for the rest of my life. I can’t even hold my own granddaughter. That family was not allowing us to come, saying we bullied their daughter so much. Uhuhu.. Why Jiejie? Why is my life so hard? What sin have we done?”
Both women cried for almost one hour. Once they calmed down, Lu Hua wiped her tears. She took a deep breath, “I really don’t have that much money. I still have my private savings, but not much. Only 50,000 yuan..”
That money was Lu Hua’s salary from working in the kitchen for years. Her salary is only 1500 yuan per month. Because her son was giving her a steady allowance, she didn’t even need to use her salary. Previously she saved it for her children’s marriage. But.. She’s so lucky, all her children were so independent, they didn’t need her money at all.
Mrs. Han’s voice is hoarse. “Could you ask Yutang to lend us some money? I feel bad if you use your private savings, Jiejie. We accept any amount. We promise we’ll return the money to you once we can.”
Lu Hua has lent so much money in the past. Only a few people return the money to her. She already learned her lesson, when lending money, one needs to let it go. Take it as charity.
Watching Lu Hua reluctantly ask Bai Yutang, Mrs. Han’s tears flow again from her red eyes.
“Please, jiejie.. I saw that Yutang’s husband is really kind to him. I heard that he was very rich. I know this is so shameless of me to ask for 200,000 yuan from him. But we really need your help. Any amount, please. Please try to ask him.”
Lu Hua sighed. She promised to call Mrs. Han once she talked to her son.
That night, Bai Yutang told his mother that he had his own private savings. He said he could only give 50,000 yuan. Give, it means Mrs. Han didn’t need to pay him back.
“Take it as our gratitude for their kindness when dad is still alive.” Bai Yutang said.
Lu Hua knows, Bai Yutang could ask Jian Kang Lu, but both mother and son are reluctant to do that.
The next day, Lu Hua made a decision. She gave Mrs. Han 75,000 yuan. The couple didn’t need to pay them back.
“I hope this matter will settle soon, and Mr. Han doesn’t need to go to jail.” Lu Hua said softly.
Mrs. Han cried again, saying thank you again and again. She knows it’s impossible for Lu Hua and Bai Yutang to lend her 200,000 yuan, but she didn’t expect them to be this generous. 75,000 yuan is a big amount. Their own relatives are even reluctant to help them. Her own brother even said that it was good if her son could learn his lesson in jail.
“Thank you, jiejie.. Thank Yutang for me also.” She took a deep breath. Tears roll again, “He really is a good son. You’re so lucky, jiejie.. You’re so lucky.. I need to learn from you how to raise my son. I love him, we educate him, yet he is still like this.”
Once Mrs. Han went home, Lu Hua sat alone in the living room.
Indeed, she’s so lucky. Her children grow so well, actually she felt she didn’t have that much influence as a mother. If someone asked her how to raise successful children, she also didn’t know whether her method was really the best.
Looking at Mrs. Han’s story, Lu Hua also realizes her surrounding has so many unfilial sons and daughters. Her own relatives raise a bunch of useless young brat.
While she has a good son, always filial, worked hard for her and Bai Yuren.
Even though he didn’t marry a girl, she can’t deny her son in law was crazy in love with her son. Without her son asked, her son in law already fulfills all his needs, even taking care of her and Bai Yuren, also He Zheng, her father in law, and her own brother.
She remembers how Jian Kang Lu shields her son, takes all her harsh words, even once bleeds from her rage. Lu Hua still feels guilty if she notices the scar on Jian Kang Lu’s face.
Her grandchildren are living so well, her in-laws also respect her and her family even though their social status is like heaven and earth.
Besides the gender, what else does she ask for?
She, as a widow, just wants her children to live well and be happy.
She, as a widow, only wanted to live peacefully until the day she reunited with her beloved husband.
If she needs to choose, if.. She prefers Jian Kang Lu rather than her son marrying a girl who trample his dignity.
That night, Lu Hua called Bai Yutang. “I want to visit my grandchildren next week.”
Bai Yutang was surprised, usually he was the one who needed to beg for Lu Hua to come. His husband once lightly said that actually Lu Hua wanted to come but was too stubborn to say it. It was better for Bai Yutang and Jian Kang Lu to lower their heads and make Lu Hua happy.
“Really?” Bai Yutang asked curiously.
Lu Hua frowned, “Of course. Why did I lie to you?”
Bai Yutang hurriedly said, “No no no, I was just surprised. Okay, just tell me the date mom, I’ll book the ticket for you.”
Few moments later, Lu Hua cleared her throat, “Tell my son in law to pick me up at the airport. Just choose the date when he’s not busy. I want him to treat me to the peking duck we ate last time on your graduation day.”
Bai Yutang almost dropped his phone. He suspected he was dreaming or having an illusion.
Son in law??? This is the first time for his mother calling his husband as her son in law!
