The Steampunk Queen - Chapter 2 Queen
I followed the crowd as the large robot chased us. My lungs burned as I ran. My sweatshirt and sweatpants dropping as I struggled to breathe.
Damn it!
I should’ve taken Gym more seriously in high school. I turned back to look at the robot. It was golden with red eyes. It’s body was made out of intricately shaped gears, plates of silver, and hooks. It was running on all fours allowing it to go faster. A small hole at the top emitted steam as the robot roared. I looked at the city around me. It looked like a typical steampunk world. Gears and machinery formed the large skyscrapers and houses. As people saw the robot they closed their doors and shops. That was when I noticed that I was the only one that the robot was chasing. How lucky.
I reached in my pocket. My phone was still with me but there was no service. I shoved it back in my pocket as my mind whirred with options of what to do. Think Bea, think. Use that mind of yours that got you into Stanford.
Metaphorically robots run on electricity or generators. I have two options, either to confront the beast of a robot or run away. As I started to slow down and tire I figured out that running away is not an option. So if I were to confront it the best way would be to wet it. Machinery always gets ruined with water. My eyes scurried the place around me. Weird old fashioned yet modern automobiles faced me. The wheels were golden yet thin allowing for faster speeds. I need to get somewhere with water.
My heart was about to jump out of my chest as I continued to run down alleys. It was as if I was in a labyrinth. I ducked and cursed as the robot swiped at my head.
“Fuck! Fuck!”
I turned as hope filled me. About 200 meters away there was a pond of some sorts. The water was murky but it looked deep. I ran straight at it and looked back to see the robot bear follow me. I jumped in the murky water and wadded through it. Thank God that I knew how to swim. Living in L.A isn’t that useless I guess. The robot bear followed me into the water. Suddenly a cackling noise filled the air as the robot monster started to malfunction. Sparks flew as it’s body touched the water. The robot’s red eyes blinked before they turned black. A large whirring noise filled the air as the beast fell into the water, never to walk again. I sighed in relief. Thank God to my quick thinking. I swam back to shore. My legs and arms cried out in pain from the running and swimming. I breathed laboriously as I laid down on the ground. People opened their doors and shops as they came towards me. The citizens of the city surrounded me with looks of awe as they looked at the broken robot in the water. I turned to the side and started coughing out the murky water. It must be some sort of oil infused waste water. I hope to God that I don’t get sick with some metal disease because of this. I blinked to see the guy from earlier above me once more. Okay us meeting is becoming too much of a habit. The guy tilted his head and smiled as he said.
“I didn’t think that my Queen would’ve this intelligent. She was able to beat a Robitz in her first day.”
Queen? First day? Did they expect me to come? I reached out and grabbed t guy’s collar. The people around me cried out. Was this annoying man important? The guy smirked as he looked into my eyes.
“Who the fuck are you, and what do you mean Queen?”
The guy pried my fingers off his collar as he smiled and answered.
“I am the King of Machinia, Larceus. The land of gears and steampunk. And you my dear Queen have been noted to be arriving today by our oracle.”
I smacked his hand which poked my cheek. I chuckled. Well, well. Isn’t this quite the fucking laughingstock of a city? They must be individuals who are living off the grid. I have heard stories of how large the sewers in L. A were. I sat up as I coughed out the last of the murky water. I then wrung it out of my braided hair, damp sweatshirt, and sweatpants. I stood up and said to Larceus.
“Give me a change of clothes and let me meet this oracle of yours.”
Larceus smiled as he stood up. Two individuals who seemed to be his guards nodded as they entered the nearest house. I looked back at all of the people who were staring at me. I scratched my hair. This situation was way too weird. The people truly looked like they were from another dimension. Not only were the clothes they wore weird, but their faces as well. They had doll-like faces which were too perfect. As if they themselves were robots. I turned to look at Larceus. Sure he was handsome but for some reason he looked the most human of them all. Was this a city of robots that he had created for himself? I stepped forward and poked a child’s cheek. The child backed away in surprise as his mother glared at me. His cheek felt like a real person’s. But with the way artificial intelligence was going these days you can never be sure.
The guards reappeared. They had large hats with gears along with white tailored suits adorned with brass and silver. They wore tall boots with golden buckles. This truly was a steampunk style city. Despite my doubts I should understand as much as I could about it while I’m here so that I can know how to get back to L.A. let’s just comply with their “Queen” shit for now. Everyone watched me as I held the clothes.
“Well are you guys going to watch me change?”
The townspeople coughed before turning around. As I lifted my sweatshirt to reveal my tank top underneath I felt a shiver down my back. I turned to see Larceus watch me amused.
“Larceus turn around or I’ll fucking kill you.”
“Why should I? We are husband and wife after all.”
I threw my damp sweatshirt at his face as he laughed. He then turned around. I quickly wore the outfit given to me. It was a pair of black leather leggings with tall high heeled boots that sparkles with golden gears. I then slipped on a silk navy dress that had white ruffles on the front as it hugged all of my curves in the right places. I then wore the hat on top which had a small clock surrounded by golden gear accents. Wow. This outfit was pretty fucking cool. I sighed as I announced.
“You guys can turn now.”
The townspeople cried out in awe as they looked at me.
“Our Queen is so beautiful.”
I blushed as I tipped my hat in thank. I was the manager of models of course I can doll myself up. I turned to see Larceus appraise me favorably. He nodded as he smiled and reached out his hand.
“Shall we meet the oracle at my palace my queen?”
I took his hand and nodded.
“Yes let’s.”
