The Strongest Way to Survive in the Apocalypse - Chapter 12:The Red Wraith
Time passed quickly as Li Qiang cultivated through the night.
Li Qiang opened his eyes. If one was to look at look at his eyes, you would find a slight crystalline quality to them.
He heard chirping and bird songs which signified dawn, his hearing having been enhanced by his Inner Qi. He slammed his hand on the ground and sprang a few meters in the air. He landed softly and a threw a punch.
“Hahaha!”
Li Qiang laughed in exhilaration. He strength had rocketed up once again and with this 1 punch he had created a strong wind current!
‘With my current abilities, I could wipe the floor with a Wraith. My limit is probably 3 or 4 Wraiths at a time, but I can still run away even against 6 to 7 Wraiths. Against 9 or 10 I stand a high chance of dying, and against 13 or more I can only ask for a quick death.’
Li Qiang assessed his new abilities quickly.
The time was almost 10 o’clock and so he tried to leave quietly, attempting to not wake Li An, who loved to stay up late and sleep in for ages. When on the road, Li Qiang started running. He ran like the wind, surprising even himself with his newfound speed. His feet made minimal contact with the ground and he moved almost 50 kilometres an hour!
This was already faster the world record which was 45 kilometres an hour!
The streets were empty, allowing Li Qiang run as fast as he liked without drawing attention. Of course, he knew that someone would spot him out of their window and make a fuss, but he couldn’t care less.
However, before he arrived at the supermarket, he saw a Portal! It hung in the air, extremely similar to the one he seen before. Li Qiang was initially puzzled, as the news had said that they had all disappeared, but he then became satisfied with his finding.
‘After all, I can use these Wraiths to test my combat power.’
Li Qiang had received a huge powerup since yesterday and needed to gauge exactly how strong he was. Assessing it from his punching strength wasn’t ideal.
Unknown to him, although these Portals looked extremely similar to previous ones, the beings that would emerge were completely different. But he would soon find this out.
Li Qiang held his sword out in front of him, which he had grabbed on his way out, in a two-handed grip.
The red Wraith stood up and turned its faceless head towards Li Qiang.Suddenly, it blurred and appeared before Li Qiang. It moved so fast; it was as if Li Qiang was a statue.
His eyes could track its movement, but his body couldn’t keep up. He could only watch as it held out a red finger in front of his chest.
Time slowed.
A red ball of energy formed in front of its hand.
Li Qiang was then blown backwards. He flew through the air, spitting blood and saliva as he did so. As he smashed into the ground after his flight, he was barely able to keep his hold on his sword.
‘What the f*ck is this!’
Li Qiang cursed in his head, taken completely by surprise by the red Wraith’s monstrous power. At this moment, all he thought about was fleeing. Faintly, in the distance, he heard the military’s sirens getting closer, no doubt having been alerted that a new Portal had appeared in this area.
The red Wraith stood in the same place as before, with its arm back at its side. As the dust cleared, its head cocked to the side, as if confused, seeing Li Qiang stumble to his feet.
Li Qiang gripped his sword tightly, anticipating its next move. The red Wraith blurred once again. Seeing this Li Qiang roared and swung his sword. His shoulders screamed in pain after this heavy exertion, already being injured after the red Wraith’s blast.
Somehow, with this wild swing, Li Qiang made contact. The sword sliced cleanly through the red Wraith’s left arm at the elbow and an inch into its torso.
It would have separated the red Wraith into two, but it finally reacted, blurring once again and reappearing 10 metres away from Li Qiang.
Its spare right hand clutched at its severed stump. For the first time, Li Qiang saw what he thought to be emotion in the Wraith. Its shoulders trembled in anger and smooth faceless head contorted as if it was trying to make an expression. This image was nightmarish of sorts, a completely red figure with 1 arm yet had no face.
Li Qiang took this opportunity. His thighs bulged and in an instant, he had created another 10 meters between him and the red Wraith. His legs moved like pistons, driving into the road with all of his strength as he fled from the red Wraith.
‘F*ck! I’ve fled twice from these Wraiths now. What kind of b*tch have I turned into!’
Despite these words’, Li Qiang continued sprinting. As he ran, small holes were created on the road. His short hair blew against the strong wind pressure and his shoes split. His lungs burned and his injured chest and shoulder gave him agony. In spite of this he continued running.
The red Wraith was really this frightening. After mere 5 seconds into the fight, he was on death’s door. After another 5, he would be firmly in the grave.
Finally, he took a quick look behind him. The road was empty. Much closer this time, he heard the military sirens. In a rare moment, he felt guilt.
After all, he fled from the red Wraith, leaving the military to get slaughtered. He had no misconceptions about the military’s strength. Their guns would be useless, their armour would be useless and even their experts like Kong Jianyu could only roll over and ask for death against such an opponent.
Then, he remembered a crucial memory.
