- Chapter 16:An Armless Fight
Li Qiang gritted his teeth, unwilling to let out his cry of pain.
Li Qiang retreated quickly, all the while parrying and dodging the relentless attack of the purple Wraith. Despite his best efforts, small cuts and wounds accumulated slowly.
This was due to several reasons.
Firstly, the purple Wraith had a huge advantage in speed. Li Qiang was only able to do this well due to his great defence and sword techniques.
Secondly, the purple Wraith used the blasts of energy extremely dextrously, wielding it like a sword at times and at other times a spear. It even released it a blast in certain attacks.
Li Qiang was losing the fight and he knew it.
He and the purple Wraith fought at a furious speed, dashing across the Coliseum floor. The purple Wraith’s attacks and Li Qiang’s defence blurred into one, a mixture of the purple cloth, blue energy blast and the silver of Li Qiang’s sword.
Finally, the purple Wraith let up on its attacks.
Although Li Qiang had taken a lot of damage they were on the surface, apart from his cut-off arm. The purple Wraith was in a better condition, but Li Qiang had managed to counterattack on some occasions and well as his first attack which had injured its shoulder.
Li Qiang and the purple Wraith stared at each other.
Li Qiang thought furiously of what to do.
‘If this goes on, I’m dead. My speed isn’t enough, and my defence won’t hold up.’
Li Qiang was desperate at this point but, with his heart of a warrior, refused to allow fear creep into his heart.
“You purple sh*t! Come at me!”
Li Qiang raised his sword and roared at the purple Wraith. Awkwardly, the purple Wraith showed no reaction.
‘I’m sure they have emotions. The red Wraith showed feelings of hatred and revenge towards me, so it must have emotions.’
Li Qiang was sure of his assessment of the Wraiths.
“You know, I’ve seen a lot of things like you.”
This time, the purple Wraith cocked his head, seemingly not understanding what Li Qiang meant.
“In my home world, a lot of things just like you appeared recently. Thousands of black ones and even red ones! Don’t worry, I made sure to kill most of them. Especially the red ones, I crushed its head personally.”
The purple Wraith reacted dangerously to Li Qiang’s provoking words. It reached new levels of speed, cracking the ground underneath its feet. A sonic boom sounded across the Coliseum.
However, Li Qiang was pleased with its new ferocity.
He knew he was at a disadvantage in a regular fight and needed the purple Wraith to make a mistake in order to win. Despite Li Qiang’s outer look, he was quite a smart fighter when he needed to be.
The purple Wraith pressed forward with unmatched aggression. Li Qiang’s arm blurred and his silver sword flashed in the air. However, in vain of his defensive prowess, red flowers bloomed across his body.
His new clothes were soaked in blood and Li Qiang was getting weaker and weaker. The wounds also piled onto the purple Wraith and its speed slowed.
Until finally, the pair fought sluggishly, the purple arms moving at a human speed and the silver sword cutting through the air at a snail’s speed. However, Li Qiang was aware that he wold still lose. After all, the purple Wraith was wounded but its energy blasts were as fast as ever. So, he abandoned all planning and gave a life-on-the-line effort.
Li Qiang roared and exploded forward. The image the blood-soaked figure moving forward made one reminiscent of a red sparrow at the end of its flight.
Li Qiang, with an overhead grip, brought his sword down on the purple Wraith with god-like strength. The purple Wraith made no move to dodge. Instead, it formed a blast in its hand and aimed for Li Qiang’s exposed torso.
A boom resounded and then silence.
“Dear combatant, congratulation on winning your 3rd Duel.”
Li Qiang had won.
In the final moment, the purple Wraith had tried to pierce his torso and then allow the energy blast to explode in his stomach, killing him instantly. Unfortunately for it, he was slightly faster. His downwards momentum had split its skull.
“Dear combatant, please collect your reward.”
Li Qiang was in the white room, healed of all injuries.
‘My arm… its back.’
Li Qiang found the sensation his cut-off arm reappearing very disconcerting.
“Dear combatant, please be ready to be transported,”
He grabbed this box on the table as usual and found himself back in the sports hall.
“Dear combatant, please be ready tomorrow at 12 noon.”
He stood on their, still as a statue for a long time.
“I’m far too weak. I almost died again today.”
Li Qiang clenched his fist.
“When will I be strong enough?”
In his fit of emotions, he unconsciously stamped his foot. This created a small crater in the sports hall, and he snapped out of his thoughts. He sighed, looking at the mess and walked back into his room.
“The key to me getting stronger is this.”
Li Qiang looked at the box in his hands. Every reward after the duel made him much stronger. If it wasn’t for them, he would have died by now.
Opening the box, he was intrigued. Unlike the previous two times, what lay in the manual was no manual. Instead of a manual, a cube was in the box. It looked like a completely normal cube, it was dull black and could have been replicated by many people. Li Qiang found a small piece of paper underneath the cube.
On it, in even smaller writing, was quite the paragraph.
“The Anima Awakening Cube. Please let a drop of blood fall onto the box. Can only awaken 10 Anima a day.”
Li Qiang was given almost no information by this but followed the instruction. He bit his finger with his unusually sharp canines and let a drop of his blood onto the surface of the cube.Nothing happened.
Li Qiang was sure that it wasn’t fake, after it came from the Coliseum of the Cosmos! Annoyed at the vagueness of its instructions, he shook it.
Then it happened.
A blood red glow erupted from Li Qiang’s skin and an excruciating pain came from Li Qiang’s head. He clutched it with both hands, keeling over in agony.
He released a low grunt unable to control himself.
The pain tripled.
Li Qiang screamed, his huge back arching in madness.
“Big Qiang, what’s happening?”
Li An burst into the room, attracted by the screams.
Finally, the pain ebbed and faded away.
