- Chapter 17:The Anima of Carnage
The room was filled with strange red lines and circles, emanating from Li Qiang. Li An was scared, backing into a corner, by the strange phenomenon. Li Qiang, after the pain faded, slowly got off of the bed and to his feet.
Li Qiang felt… powerful.
In the past few days, his strength had received powerup after powerup. His strength had continuously rocketed time and time again, to the point that if he was to go back to the pre-Apocalypse Li Qiang, he would feel helplessly weak, despite actually being in the top 0.1% of humanity.
Even so, this new increase in Li Qiang’s strength dwarfed all those before. He felt oddly peaceful in the face of this scene.
“Li An, its ok. Just walk out of the room, its completely safe.”
Li An cautiously took a step. Seeing nothing happened, she broke into a run and scurried out of the room. After all, anyone would be put off by seeing her strong brother in agony, and then magical-looking circles and lines erupting from his skin.
Li Qiang knew the truth of the matter. In those short few moments of agonising pain, huge amounts of information appeared in his brain, enlightening him on what everything was an what he was going through.
The Anima, otherwise known as the Innate Ability, was something everyone possessed. However, it was incredibly hard to awaken the Anima. A few ancient families and martial artists managed to do it, through amazing talent and hard work or an accumulation of mountains of resources.
The Anima was the source of modern-day Rank 5 powers, apart from the non-human Rank 5s of course.Li Qiang had awakened an odd, some could call evil, Anima. Li Qiang’s Anima was the Anima of Carnage.
Generally, a persons Anima was possessed by many other people. This leads to grouping people by their Anima, some Anima being useful for fighting or healing and so on. However, some Anima were incredibly rare, to the point only a single person in a generation or even tens of generation would have it.
The Anima of Carnage was precisely this kind of category.
Its abilities were seen as evil and oppressive, yet extremely powerful. Essentially, all someone with the Anima of Carnage had to do to get stronger was kill. Kill and you get stronger. It was as simple as that. And it wasn’t merely ‘stronger’ but you would get very strong, very fast. There was no limit to this increase in strength, apart from how many lives you could end.Certain people in history had used this to commit vile deeds of global proportions.
One such example was Hitler himself, who used it to become one of the strongest men in history. That was a story for another day.
Li Qiang willed the Air of Carnage to withdraw and the red aura was sucked into him.T he Air of Carnage wasn’t much, it just caused slight mental oppression in his opponents and showed that he was in battle mode. Basically, it was a paper tiger.
Li Qiang stared at the Anima Awakening Cube, in deep thought.
‘This is a wondrous item. With this, there’s no need to use huge amounts of resources or work your bones off, just a drop of blood is needed to become a superhuman. With this, I could even establish my own faction!’
Li Qiang was excited, thinking of the many uses of this. Then his thoughts turned towards Li An.’I will make Li An use this and then give her the sword manual to work on. With these, she should at least be able to protect herself.’
Li Qiang strode out of the room.
“An-An! Come here!”
Li An poked her head around the kitchen door.
“Big Qiang, what’s happening? Have you got rid of the red things? What were they?”
Li An had a torrent of questions.
“Li An, sit down.”
Li An became silent and sat down, sensing the serious air of Li Qiang.
“An-An, I’m sure you know that I am strong.”
“Of course, Big Qi, I’ve always known you’re the strongest.”
Li Qiang sighed.”Li An. I am not just strong. I am super humanly strong. Come with me outside.”
Li Qiang led Li An outside, where she took huge breaths of fresh air, having been confined in the bunker for some time.
“Li An, watch closely.”In their garden were several trees. With the ease of plucking a flower from its stalk, Li Qiang wrenching tree out of the ground.
Li An’s eyes boggled.
“An-An, times are dangerous. Dangerous beings emerge form portals every day and if you don’t get strong, you will die. I can’t tell you how I got these things, but I can give you ways to become strong as well. If you work hard, you can even become as strong as me.”
Li An’s eyes shined, then dimmed.
Li Qiang rubbed her head with one hand and thrusting the tree back into the ground with the other.
“Don’t worry, there are other ways of getting strong, you don’t need to be 7-foot-tall with huge biceps like me to do so.”
Li An’s eyes regained her shine.
“When do we start? Is it like cultivating? Will I be able to fly on my sword in the future?”
Li Qiang chuckled.
“Maybe, maybe. Before that though, I want some food.”
Li Qiang’s stomach released a huge growl, exactly on time. Li An bounced and skipped inside the bunker, eager at the idea of having superpowers.
After a huge meal, Li Qiang sat down with Li An in the living room.
“An-An, this could be very painful. You heard my screams, so you know. It’s not dangerous but you have to take the pain.”
Li An’s small face nodded, her lips set in a serious line. Li Qiang hunched over, gently biting her finger and let a drop of her blood fall onto the box. The pair waited in trepidation. Nothing happened. Then it did.
A white aura exploded from Li An. It was nothing like Li Qiang’s Air of Carnage, it was more soothing and lovely. Surprisingly, the entire process ended quite quickly and painlessly, nothing like Li Qiang’s awakening.
“Little An? How did it go? What is your Anima?”
Li Qiang was the one with a torrent of questions now. Li An was silent, sitting in a cross legged position, with closed eyes.
Suddenly she opened her eyes and a white light flashed from them.Another wave of white aura exploded from her; this time much stronger. She rose in the air, a white light highlighting her figure. She levitated there in the air for a few moments, looking like an angel. Finally, she dropped down into Li Qiang’s arms, unconscious.
