- Chapter 18:The Easy 4th Duel
“An-An, what happened?”
Li Qiang was sitting on Li An’s bed, having set her down there after her Anima Awakening.
“Li Qiang, I’m fine.”
Li Qiang was slightly surprised by this sudden cold tone.
“What is your Anima?”
“My Anima is named the Anima of the Holy. I have abilities to do with healing and strengthening my allies. I also have abilities to do with attacking.”
Li Qiang waited for more information, only to be dismissed.
“Li Qiang, please leave the room. I am tired and would like to recuperate.”
Li Qiang was extremely puzzled by her coldness and unfriendly words, but he left the room, following her wishes. Li Qiang went to the sports hall, intending to familiarise himself with his increased strength and continue cultivating.
He meditated and practised for hours, focused on his new powers.
Hours and hours went by and night fell.
Li Qiang got up, stretching his long limbs. He went over to his closet and got his Sword Manual out from his drawer, along with his cultivation manual, Champions Form: Warrior.
Li An had now been exposed to the superhuman side of the world and he wanted to show her these 2 manuals in case they could help her increase her strength, especially the Sword Manual.
Li Qiang shouted across the house like usual.
“An-An, time for dinner! What did you make?”
Unusually, he got no reply. He trudged to her room, to find her sitting cross-legged on her bed. A soft white glow emanated from her and he assumed she was familiarising herself with her Anima.
He quietly closed the door. Li Qiang almost always relied on Li An to make food but he could also cook. He spent 30 minutes cooking and took out a small portion, with which her left on her table, not disturbing her cultivation.
As he ate, seated alone at the table, he felt an uncomfortable loneliness, despite Li An only being around 15 meters away from him. Nevertheless, he wolfed down his food and returned to cultivating.
However, he also left the Sword Manual on her desk along with the food. Li Qiang placed the Anima Awakening Cube and the Champions Form: Warrior in his drawer before returning to cultivation. Because it could replace sleep, he made it a habit to meditate through the night.
Dawn came and he shouted through the house once again.
“Li An, have you made breakfast?”
However, he received the same response as before. He checked Li An’s room and she was still meditating. However, the plate of food was finished, and the Sword Manual lay on the bed beside her.
He assumed she had already learned the Sword moves and retrieved the Sword Manual, placing it with the other 2 items before making breakfast. Like yesterday, he placed a plate of food on her table. In the sports hall, he practiced releasing the Air of Carnage, awaiting his 4th Duel in the Coliseum of the Cosmos.
“Dear combatant, please be ready for transport.”
Considering it was his 4th experience, he felt no surprise when he opened his eyes in the Coliseum. Like before the blurred spectators filled the stands and the orange-red dirt floor was empty.
“Dear combatant, please be ready for your 4th opponent.”
Li Qiang felt an unusual sense of monotonous repetition, this being his 4th Duel in 4 days. However, he banished the emotion and entered his battle state, raising his sword in front of him and activating the Air of Carnage.
His opponent appeared. Li Qiang was the more surprised by this new enemy than any other. He looked exactly like a human male! A difference was that he was dressed in ancient clothing, like a mystical cultivator of the past.
Even more surprising, the being actually spoke to him!
“I apologise. This is the first time I have met a human in the Coliseum, but I will have to kill you. Afterall, I, Lin Fan, will be the strongest under the heavens!”
Even in this hostile environment, against an enemy, Li Qiang still cringe at his words.Lin Fan burst forwards. In his hand formed a blue sword, seemingly created out of thin air.
“Take my Ethereal Sky-Piercing Slash!”
Lin Fan raised his sword high above his head and its ballooned in size. He brought it down on Li Qiang’s head.
Throughout this scene, Li Qiang was just cringing. This was for several reasons. Firstly, announcing your attack was as cringy as it sounded.
Secondly, Lin Fan’s speed was laughable.
Li Qiang held up a hand and, making it look effortless, blocked its with one hand, gripping the blade. At this point Li Qiang was puzzled as to how Lin Fan had made it to the 4th Duel, with both his strength and speed even less than his 3rd opponent, the purple Wraith.
Not bothering to mull over it, he exerted huge strength in his grip, cracking the blue sword that Lin fan used to attack.
“How! You are truly a worthy opponent for me, Lin Fan. You have forced me to use my life-or-death attack. Blue Godly Blade, appear!”
Lin Fan raised his hand, shouting flashy words all the while. A blue blade appeared in his hand once again. It was exactly the same as his previous attack, the only difference being its slightly increased size.
Li Qiang wasn’t bothered to sit through his theatrics and attacked. With a sonic boom, he broke the speed of sound and appeared before Lin Fan in the blink of an eye. Lin Fan was halfway through his exclamation of surprise when his head fell off of his shoulders.
Li Qiang flicked off the blood from his blade and turned away from his dead opponent.
“Congratulations on winning your 4th Duel!”
Li Qiang was teleported to the white room.
“Please collect your rewards.”
Li Qiang picked up the box.
“Dear combatant. After your 4th Duel, there will be a waiting period. Your next Duel will be in 6 months. Please increase your strength until then.”
Li Qiang was slightly disappointed by this, as this also meant that his next reward would be in 6 months. He opened the box, looking at his reward. To his surprise, this was unlike any other reward. All his rewards up to now had looked plain, whether it be a manual or a cube. This was something straight out of a sci-fi movie!
It was roughly the size of a phone and was designed in a complicated manner. He picked it up and checked the box for any other instructions but didn’t find any.
He examined the intricate device more closely and found a small button on its underside. He pressed it.
“Owner Established. Owner Qiang, the tutorial will begin in 5 seconds.”
Li Qiang heard this and looked at the device but weirdly, it was like the voice sounded inside his head. It was a weird feeling. He waited expectantly for 5 seconds but nothing happened.
What did happen is that the voice embarked on a long speech. For a long 15 minutes the voice explained its origins uses and designs in a monotonous voice. Li Qiang was almost bored to death.
‘In summary, this is an appraisal device named the ‘Classification Codex’ and apparently it was created by the Velox Race in the year 130,459 BC.’
Li Qiang paid no mind to the origin as it wasn’t relevant to himself at all.
‘It can be ‘stored’ within its Owner and when it needs to change Owners you would have to ‘expose’ it and take it out of the original Owner and transfer ownership by pressing the button on its underside.’
“Store.”
Li Qiang stored it and it disappeared. The voice continued sounding in his head.
“Owner Qiang, the Internal Classification will occur in 10 seconds.”
Li Qiang was startled.
‘What the f*ck is an ‘Internal Classification’?’
