- Chapter 21:An Unexpected Betrayal
Li Qiang’s eyes twinkled at his quick-witted behaviour.
“You have my promise.”
The boy nodded and then leaning even closer.
“I have two secrets to share. The first is about how the Holy Order has gotten so much stronger so fast. Apparently, they have a magical device that can awaken your Anima without any work or resources!”
Li Qiang’s eyes narrowed.
“However, it’s in the hands of the 3rd Pope, Cai Zhong. He is in charge of recruiting members to the Holy Order, so it makes sense.”
Li Qiang was almost sure that it was his Anima Awakening Cube. He just didn’t know how they had gotten it.
Li Qiang’s suspicions were confirmed.
‘So that’s how.’
Li Qiang’s fists clenched.
‘My own sister stole my treasures and abandoned me.’
Unconsciously, Li Qiang release an earth-shaking aura. The boy trembled in fear and his pants became wet. He managed to let out a croak before he collapsed, snapping Li Qiang out of his anger.Li Qiang looked at the pathetic kid. He sighed and picked him up, heading back to his bunker.
An hour later, Li Qiang was Qi-Walking across the city, with a clean and revitalized little boy on his shoulders.
“Big Bro Qiang, you’re really awesome!”
The pair had gotten much closer after Li Qiang had told him name and gave him food and water.
“Give me the direction of your camp.”
The boy, who was named Mo Weisheng, pointed West of Shenyang. So, flying through the air, Li Qiang and Mo Weisheng headed towards the camp.
As they journeyed, Li Qiang’s impression of Mo Weisheng rose, as he saw how far he had to travel to find provisions in the city. The small boy also showed no fear high in the air, laughing and smiling. Li Qiang felt a strange sense of peace. However, this was shattered as he saw the camp. Despite only being established 2 months ago, huge walls were built around the camp, which itself was also huge. It was like a makeshift city, only lacking the history to truly be called that.
“How were the Holy Order able to build this in 2 months?”
“They have members who awakened Anima that can manipulate metal, earth and rock. They used them to create high-quality camps extremely fast.”
Li Qiang was impressed by such efficiency. As he got closer, he attracted attention from the walls of the city. With his enhanced hearing, he heard shouting and exclamations from the soldiers on top of the city walls. With his speed, he got to the walls very fast and landed smartly on them with a flashy entrance.
“Glory to the Order!”
The patrol unit of soldiers saluted him.
‘They think I am a Sentinel.’
Li Qiang realised this quickly.
‘Good. Less hassle to get this kid home.’
“Greetings, soldiers.”
The tension in the air was thick when Li Qiang began speaking, the soldiers being very wary of superpowered individuals.
“Take this kid home and make sure nobody bothers his family. Take his father to the doctors and make sure he is healed.”
Mo Weisheng waved, beaming happily as he was led away by an entourage of soldiers.
“Anything else, Sentinel?”
The captain of the patrol unit saluted him once again.
“Lead me to the Sentinels of this camp.”
“Certainly.”
After a 5-minute walk and a windy journey through some doors, the captain led him to a black door.
“Sentinel, they are currently having a meeting inside.”
Li Qiang opened the door, stepping though the doorway quickly and banging it shut behind him. The room, which was full of discussion previously, became silent. In the middle of the large room a round table was populated by 10 Sentinels, each with a white uniform and a single star on their shoulder, presumably indicative of their rank. A man with 2 stars, meaning he was a Priest, stood up.
“Who are you?”
Li Qiang swept his eyes across the table, not replying.Instead, he activated his Qi and his Air of Carnage. He exhaled, releasing his killing intent. The effect was immediate. The Sentinels in the room collapsed with no warning, one of them even frothing at the mouth. Only the Priest was able to maintain consciousness. His face went white and his legs barely supported him, making creaking noises.
“Where is the Holy Eidolon?”
Impossibly, the Priest’s face turned even whiter.
“I will never betray her Holiness.”
His gaze was resolute in the face of Li Qiang’s overwhelming power, earning Li Qiang’s respect.
“I am her brother. She will come to no harm.”
Upon hearing these words, the Priest showed signs of faltering.
“If you don’t give me her location, I will massacre the Holy Order. Everyone in this room will die and if the next camp doesn’t give me her location, then they will die as well. Give me her location and no-one gets hurt.”
The Priest finally cracked.
“She is with the 2nd Pope governing Beijing Camp.”
“Great.”
Li Qiang withdrew his oppression.
“There is a kid named Mo Weisheng in this camp. I want his Anima awakened.”
With those words, he left the Shenyang camp. He sped towards Beijing, travelling at almost an average of supersonic speeds by Qi-Walking. With his speed, he arrived at Beijing in 2 hours. He stood just out of Beijing, thinking.
He took a moment to stop thinking about his sister and appreciated his amazing speed. Then he entered Beijing.
He flashed past the ruined and empty neighbourhoods and once he got to the centre of the city, he rocketed upwards. He got higher and higher, reaching almost a kilometre in height. There, he used his enhanced eyesight to spot the Beijing Camp. It was even more developed than the Shenyang camp and far larger.
He speeded towards it.
