- Chapter 25:The Ending of Li An
“Attack!”
The Holy Order’s members, who were initially standing statue-still, observing the scene between Li Qiang and Li An, burst in action. The remaining Pope hurtled towards Li Qiang at a breakneck pace. She brought her sword overhead and then brought it down on Li Qiang’s shoulder. It pierced a few inches and then stuck there.
Hundreds of projectiles flew in the air, aiming for Li Qiang. Almost every single one head their target, not doing much damage, but drawing blood. Li An blurred forward and pierced her sword into Li Qiang’s waist, piercing through cleanly. Even Li Chen, whose eyes glowed white, attacked, although inflicted no damage.
Countless memories replayed on a loop in his head. Li Ying picking him up when he was still young and cuddling him. When he was older, she stopped cuddling him and became colder, but he still felt the love.
Once, he got into a car accident when he was young and woke up in the hospital. It was completely dark, and no-one was present apart from his mother. She was crying soundlessly. He didn’t let her know he was awake but after that incident, he saw his mother in a new light. Now she was dead.
Li Qiang felt the world resume around him. He felt the pain flood his nerves and he saw the Anima projectiles pierce his skin.
Li Qiang felt anger. A fury, a wrath he had never felt before.
He roared towards the heavens.
A Qi blast emanated from him knocking away Li An and the Holy Order members.
Li Qiang lifted his sword and cut away his mother’s stiff arms from around him. Li Qiang wasn’t and individual to care about someone’s body after they died. Once they died, they were a piece of meat in Li Qiang’s eyes, no matter if they were once his mother.
Li Qiang jumped forward, into the crowd of Bishops. His sword flashed and heads fell. His Air of Carnage pulsed with every death, healing Li Qiang’s injuries and strengthening him further.
“Han Li, stop him! Bishops, retreat and charge projectiles!”
Li An threw out orders whilst making hand gestures and incantations. Li Qiang recognised them to be the ritual for Divine Wrath. Han Li, the man who had cultivated the Champions Form: Warrior manual attacked Li Qiang. Li Qiang ignored the charging Han Li, directly running into him with his shoulder.
Han Li spat blood and stumbled backwards but, to Li Qiang’s surprise, remained on his feet. Han Li countered with a strong punch. Li Qiang dodged it and flicked his wrist. His sword cut Han Li’s arm off!
Han Li screamed, falling to his knees and clutching his stump. Li Qiang thrust his sword into his head, finishing him off.
At that moment, his Air of Carnage exploded. It had absorbed the deaths of a few Bishops and now Han Li. His ability upgraded!
The hole in Li Qiang’s stomach quickly filled with flesh and his cuts and bruises faded. Li Qiang attacked the crowd of Bishops once again, tanking the flurry of Anima projectiles.Heads rolled and finally the unit of Bishops broke. They had remained cold and tightly knit in spite of the god-like feats of power Li Qiang had shown, a testimony to their training and loyalty to Li An but dying like flies was too much for them. Li Qiang let go the ones that fled, turning to deal with Li An and next to her, Li Chen.
“God of Wrath, strike the enemy!”
Li An had cast the same skill as before, Divine Wrath. Li Qing laughed, observing the huge figure form in the sky once again.
“Li An, you’ve already tried this once. All you can do now is roll over and ask for a quick death.”
The Celestial Form threw its spear. Li Qiang, this time, didn’t even resort to his sword. With one hand, he reached out and grabbed the spear, plucking it out of the air.
In one fluid movement, he redirected it and threw it at Li Chen. The spear pierced his head, killing him instantly.
To Li Qiang, Li Chen was no longer his father. He was someone who consented in using his wife to kill his son. Such a person was only worthy of death. As for Li An… Li Qiang wanted to make her death a lot more painful.
“Li An.”
His figure blurred and appeared in front of Li An.
“Die.”
His sword fluttered and Li An’s four limbs fell off.
Despite this, she made no sound, just staring at Li Qiang in hatred.
“Why? Why did you kill your mother? Why did you attack your brother?”
Li Qiang was still curious, even at this point, at what drove her to do this, to want to kill him so badly.
“Li Qiang.”
Li An spoke slowly.
“You are a user of Carnage. It is my duty, as the Holy Eidolon, to eradicate the evil of the world. Even with me dead, every other Unique Anima user with band against you. You will die, because you are a Knight of Carnage.”
Li Qiang was silent. Neither him nor Li An noticed a small tear whisper down his face.
“I will see you in hell.”
Li Qiang raised his sword and pierced Li An’s heart. Even now, his lingering affection subconsciously stopped him from beheading her and instead he thrust his sword through her heart. Then, he sat down next to her dead body.
For the first time in his life, he felt weary. He felt tired. He wanted to sleep away the pain. And so he leaned back and slept.
