- Chapter 5:The Apocalypse Begins
The next day, Li Qiang got up late again. He padded downstairs, making himself breakfast in a groggy state. At some point while eating his food, he remembered yesterday evening and how his sister came back home dead drunk.
He sighed and went upstairs. His sister was in the same clothes as yesterday, sleeping on the bed. Unusually, her face was still red. Li Qiang frowned. He placed his hand on her forehead, which made Li An open her eyes. Her forehead was incredibly hot!
“Big Qiang, I don’t feel so good. My head hurts and I feel like vomiting. Big Qiang, am I going to die?”
Li An was in the end, still a teenager, who knew very little about the world. She felt awful, to the point that she thought she was dying! Li Qiang suddenly got annoyed at her naivety.
“An-An, you shouldn’t have drunk so much yesterday. This is normal for someone to get a headache after getting so drunk.”
“I was drunk?”
Li Qiang realised she had forgotten what had happened yesterday, too intoxicated to remember.
“The last thing I remember was talking to a senior.”
Her lips trembled.
“Bro-Qiang, I feel really bad, could you get me some medication?”
Li Qiang sighed. Despite her habit of ‘conning’ him out of most of his money and her continual annoyance, he found it hard to refuse her if she asked for things. Especially in the current circumstance, where he considered himself responsible for her whilst Li Ying and Li Chen were away.
“An-An, the medication at home ran out some time ago, so I will go to the local pharmacy. I will be about 35 minutes. I’ll get you some water now, so wait until I get back.”
Li Qiang was a fast runner, with long legs and good stamina.
He could get a taxi, but the traffic was likely to be bad, especially at noon on Sunday. As he ran through the streets, he drew several looks from people due to his speed and size. He was used to this and ignored them. He got to the pharmacy in about 15 minutes.
“I need some medication for a headache.”
Li Qiang thought about the symptoms his sister showed.
“Pack me some fever pills as wells, please.”
In contrast to his hulk-physique, Li Qiang was actually a polite person. He took the bag and paid quickly, in a hurry to return home.
As he was running home, he saw a crowd in the middle of the road, blocking cars. When Li Qiang reminisced this event in his later years, he realised that this was the dawn of the end of the world.
Suspended in the air, surrounded by the crowd, was a circle of light. It was quite large, allowing two men to easily walk through, shoulder to shoulder. Li Qiang walked through crowd, most people being more than happy to clear his way.
Many in the crowd where filming and taking photos of this phenomenon, whilst other were discussing it loudly. Just then, a black figure dropped out of the circle. It landed in a crouching position, then stood up and stared at the crowd.
It had a humanoid figure and was thin and very tall, able to look eye to eye with Li Qiang. It was clad in a black material and no skin was revealed. Out of the blue Li Qiang thought back to the video he saw.
“God’s messengers will return to Earth.”
The crowd retreated hastily, those closest to it scrambling in fear. However, some were fearless and continued filming and taking photos.
Suddenly, the figure exploded into motion. It flashed through the crowd, explosions of blood wherever it passed.
Its speed was extremely fast, so fast that Li Qiang barely managed to follow it with his eyes. However, he saw that it was actually using its hand to pierce people’s heads! Screams and shouts drowned out all other noise in Li Qiang’s ears. The masses, who were already spooked with this supernatural event, became terrified!
Li Qiang set down his bag and hurled himself towards the figure. He was no good Samaritan, but he couldn’t let this being continue killing so wantonly.
Li Qiang took the being by surprise and managed to get a grip on its neck. Exhaling hard, he twisted his hips and slammed it onto the ground. To his surprise, the figure got back to its feet instantly, even doing a backwards cartwheel!
One had to know, when Li Qiang slammed someone down like that, only the very robust could even stagger back to their feet, let alone do acrobatics!
The mysterious person assumed a stance with his feet spread wide and his arms extended straight in front of him.
Li Qiang sneered. Since he was young, he had fought many fights and had beaten up many people. With so much experience, he found that these so-called martial arts were useless for anything other than training your body.
Li Qiang thought that true strength lay in experience and bodily strength and not what kinds of fancy moves you could pull off. Of course, this was only for the non-experts.
People like the famous Mr. Long would no doubt give Li Qiang problems.
Li Qiang, always the aggressor, exploded forward, releasing a loud roar. Again, to his surprise, the figure dodged nimbly to the side, but grasped his extended arm and pulled off an extremely complex move.
It redirected Li Qiang’s force and actually flipped his 120-kilogram body into the air! Li Qiang reacted fast. He tucked his legs underneath him in mid-air, landing on two feet. He then got a grip on the neck, but this time he wasn’t able to pull off his move.
The figure broke off his grip with a mysterious move which made Li Qiang think he was grasping liquid instead of flesh. Li Qiang frowned, wary of this mysterious martial arts and odd movements. This time, the enemy attacked. It was an extremely simple move yet also extremely fast.
It formed a piercing shape with its hand and thrust it towards Li Qiang’s head. It had used this move to kill several people already, piercing their heads like a knife through butter!
Having seen its damage already, Li Qiang moved with another level of speed, unfitting for his massive body.
He also assumed a boxing guard, making it glance off of the side of his forearm. The opponent’s hands barely touched his arm, but he had a large chunk of flesh torn off by this small attack! Li Qiang retreated back a few meters hastily.
Just then, Li Qiang looked over his shoulder to see that another black figure had dropped from the circle. It was killing a path through the mayhem of people, making its way to Li Qiang.
Li Qiang cursed in his head.
‘F*cks sake, they aren’t playing fair!’
Throwing away safety, he again sprang towards the figure he was fighting against. The two exchanged a flurry of blows, with Li Qiang sustaining heavy damage on his arms and torso. Finally, Li Qiang got the advantage and managed to get a grip on its arms.
He tensed his entire body. He drove his leg into the ground, his waist tightened, his shoulder wound up and his bicep flexed. With a load roar, he flung the figure into the air!
Despite being quite large, it was also quite light for its apparent size and so Li Qiang, who had freakish strength, was able to hurl it over 5 meters away! As soon as he did so, he took flight. Li Qiang was foolhardy at times, and his IQ wasn’t especially high.
However, he wasn’t f*cking retarded. One of them had managed to fight him equally and the only reason he got away was because he had disregarded winning. Against two of them he was asking for death!
Li Qiang didn’t look over his shoulder, resolutely dashing through the streets at an astonishing speed. He also drew many weird look and shouts. A huge man sprinting down the street covered in blood and injury, how wasn’t he supposed to do so?
After 20 minutes of running he looked behind him. He saw no sign of the pair of black figures. He was almost sure they didn’t follow him, as he would have heard the screams of the dying behind him. However, just to make sure he searched the area immediately around there for another 30 minutes before going home.
He stumbled through the door to find his, supposedly, ill sister cooking. He collapsed on the sofa as soon as he got past the door, feeling a weakness he had never felt before.
