- Chapter 6:Connection Established
“Bro Qiang, what happened to you?”
Li An was shocked at the state of Li Qiang. Normally, even when he fought outside, he never came back with any huge injuries and the blood on his clothes weren’t his but this time he was clearly almost half-dead!
“An-An, get me some disinfectant and bandages. If we don’t have bandages tear up some old clothes.”
Li Qiang spoke through gritted teeth, in much pain. Li An scurried off, with no words to say in this serious moment.
30 minutes later, Li Qiang had finally disinfected and bandaged all of his wounds. The ones on his arms were relatively easy to do but due to his broad torso, they had to use up all the bandages and tear up several clothes to full wrap them. He lay on the sofa, half naked.
“Gege, what happened?”
Li Qiang waved his hand.
“Look at the news.”
Li An stared at him, concern in her eyes.
“How is your fever?”
“Oh, I got better. After you left my fever and headache got much better very quickly. I don’t think I need any pills.”
Li An turned on their TV and immediately was shocked by the news.
“Dear ladies and gentlemen, thousands of ‘Portals’ have opened all over the city within the last hour. From these have come out dangerous killers, each massacring everyone they came across. We strongly advise everyone to remain home. At approximately 12:28, exactly 24 minutes after the first portal was reported, the military moved into the city. We have received similar reports from Wuhan, Beijing, Shanghai and almost every other major city in the country. Even overseas, we have gathered that similar events have happened in New York, London, etc. These strange events have led to many questions. Who exactly are these killers? Are they aliens? Why have the elite-equipped military met with such great resistance when dealing with these people? Watch later to see what we have gathered on the situation.”
Li An sat there, shocked.
“D-d-did big bro fight one of those things?”
Li Qiang flashed a bloody smile.
“Your big brother is so awesome that he beat not 1, but 2 of those things into submission.”
Li Qiang blatantly left out that he fled the scene, instead making up this b*llshit about beating them into submission.
“Wow~, big bro is so strong.”
Li An’s eyes sparkled looking at her brother.
Li Qiang snickered in his head at his gullible sister and then turned serious.
“An-An, these are dangerous times. I can’t imagine what would have happened if you had gone out instead of me.”
Li Qiang was almost 100 percent certain that she would have died if she had come across the black figures. Suddenly, he pulled her closer into a hug. It was a comical image, him engulfing her demure frame in his gargantuan frame.
“Big Qi, w-w-what are you doing, you’re all bloody and you smell of sweat.”
She pushed him away, red-faced. Li Qiang chuckled and then got up from the couch, his bandages straining over his heaving chest.”
Why are you getting up? You should rest up. Your injuries are bad and there’s a particularly deep gash in your stomach, that isn’t going to be healed for at least a week, even with your body.”
“An-An, we need to make preparations. Do we have any weapons in the house?”
She sighed, seeing his mind made up.
“Why would we have weapons in the house? This isn’t the warring states era.”She paused, remembering something.”
But we might have some stuff in the basement. Dad inherited tons of old heirlooms and family artefacts from Great Grandpa and Great Grandpa loved collecting weaponry and ancient swords.”
Her face suddenly went pale.
“Me? Go down to the basement?”
She shook her head so fast; she might have got whiplash. Li Qiang groaned, remembering Li An’s fear of going into the basement.
It all started when she was an adventurous 9 years old and she had ventured into the basement alone. An hour later she ran out screaming, claiming that she had heard voices and that ghosts lived in the basement. This petty incident had actually scarred her!
Since then she refused to enter the basement, even installing a strong lock on her bedroom door. He started to get a headache, as he couldn’t let her go out alone with the figures running around freely and she refused to get weapons from the basement.
For some reason, he got particularly annoyed at this useless sister and started cursing her. Only in his head, of course.
“An-An, just continue watching the TV and try to gather more information.”
For this type of useless person, sitting on the couch was all she could do!
Li Qiang walked down the basement stairs and started rummaging through stuff. He had decided to find weapons first, as going out injured and armed was better than going out injured with his fists.
As he turned it upside down, he finally found a long box labelled ‘Grandpa’s treasures. Handle with care!’
He ripped it open and was astounded at its contents. Piled one on top of the other were swords! To be more specific, swords, sabres, blades, katanas, short swords and etc. He took one out, a long katana. It looked extremely precious and was decorated delicately. As he swung it, he could feel the quality of it, despite only being a novice at using the katana.
“F*ck me, I’ve struck gold!”
Li Qiang was ecstatic at such a useful find. He put the katana back into the box and looked for something more to his taste. Finally, he found a strange yet cool looking sword. It had a funny design, with no guard and a plain blade.
Its handle was wrapped in a strange material and was coloured gold squares and black squares. Between the blade and the handle was a length of gold, which looked slightly out of place, as if it had been inserted as an afterthought. On the length of gold, a character had been engraved. Unfortunately, he hadn’t the slightest clue what it meant.
However, he was satisfied with it, as it was extremely heavy! This was the both the perfect weight for him and a deceptive sword. Those who weren’t an expert with swords would assume it was a normal sword but when they attempt to defend his strikes…
Li Qiang could only chuckle at the image of him slashing his opponent in one strike.
Unknown to him, a drip of blood had leaked from his bandages and fell silently onto the blade. It whispered down the blade and came into contact with the length of gold.
“Connection Established.”
