The Struggle of a Weak Aristocrat in a Different World Our Domain is Surrounded by Large Aristocrats, and It’s a Big Problem! - CH 99
Alice, looking dumb, gets up from the bed and walks over to me. When she was right in front of me, she just said, “Do you have a minute?” She then grabbed my clothes and started walking again, without even listening to my reply.
I was dragged to the corner of the room, unsure of the suddenness of the situation. When we reached the wall, Alice took her hands off her clothes, faced me, and opened her mouth.
“Aren’t you going to invite me to join the search?”
“Didn’t I tell you? Alice is supposed to distract the king.”
“That’s not what I asked you.”
“Okay, I’ll take care of it.”
“No! I want to do something exciting, like exploring!”
Alice expressed her dissatisfaction but I can’t have that. This is something that only Alice can do.
My purpose was to get information about the mock battle. It was obvious that the king would want to know everything about his beloved daughter. As a result, I came to the conclusion that the king’s private chambers were full of information about the mock battle his daughter would be participating in.
However, it was impossible to rummage in the king’s room. Besides, it would be extremely difficult to pull him out of his private quarters in the middle of the night.
I didn’t really care about that, because I thought it would be easy for Alice to hook him just by saying something like, “I want to talk with you,” or “Play with me.”
That’s why I need Alice to take on this role. Now, what should I say to her? I can’t think of anything, but since it’s Alice, I think I can just ask her in a random way.
“Uh, yeah. Can you do that for me?”
“What’s with that messy feeling? I’ve been wondering why you’re being so rude to me.”
Even Alice didn’t seem to like it. In addition, I was impressed that she was aware that she was being treated rudely.
I would like to praise her for understanding well, but I don’t want to spoil her mood and make the intrusion end in vain, so I decide to keep her in a good mood.
“This is something that only Alice can do.”
When I said this, Alice stopped as if she had forgotten how to breathe, and her mouth relaxed a little.
“Heh, heh. I’m the only one who can do it. Mist is behind me, and I’m the only one who can do it?”
“Yeah. That’s right. Taking out the king from his rooms in the middle of the night is a difficult task, and only Alice can do it.”
“But I need to hold him while Chris and the others are in the room, right? Do you think I can do that?”
“Of course. See, you were saying a lot of things back to Mist earlier. I don’t have that kind of courage.”
“Yeah, you’re right! Come to think of it, I was able to stand up to that Mist! I have a feeling I can do it!”
Alice nodded as if to confirm something on her own, and looked awfully full of herself.
“Did you finish your conversation?”
Mist, who had been waiting, asked me as if she had been paying attention. Alice stepped forward, pushing me away from Mist.
“Yes! I’m the only one who can do it. Only me!”
“Wow, that’s amazing. You are indeed a princess. I can’t do it.”
Alice was in a very good mood, and Mist flattered her with cold eyes. However, Alice was oblivious to this, and just snorted and giggled, feeling good about herself.
Mist gave her a subtle look, but I pretended not to notice and told Alice about my plan.
“Well then, Alice, I want you to keep the king outside the room for an hour or so. He probably won’t be able to sleep at night, so you can tell him to join you for a story or something.”
“What? Is that what you want?”
She asked me whether I was anxious or disappointed, I couldn’t decide which. I looked Alice straight in the eye and said, “You’re the only one I can trust,” and walked out of the room with a smile. Soon after that, I heard the footsteps of two people outside the room.
As the footsteps moved away, Mist and I stepped out into the hallway. We walked quietly to the room at the end of the long hallway, trying not to make a sound, and opened the door. Mist and I entered the room and closed the door gently.
The room was very similar to Alice’s, with a large bed with a canopy down and a hanging candle chandelier. However, what was different was the gold-based decorations carved into the walls and the three portraits hanging on the walls. Two of the portraits were of blond men who looked like Alice, and the other was of a beautiful man with a clear face, which I could vaguely see.
I predicted that they probably were the portraits of the previous kings, and I was convinced that this was the king’s room.
A cold sweat ran down my spine and my heart began to beat faster as I realized that I was now in the room where the person who stood at the top of this country lived.
“We’re finally here.”
Mist smiled and said in a somewhat carefree voice. The tone of her voice was so relaxed that it eased my tension and stopped the palpitations in my chest. Perhaps Mist was trying to relieve my tension.
I thanked her for that.
“Thank you.”
“What are you talking about? Let’s just find out.”
I knew I was in love with Mist’s devilish smile, but I didn’t want to be tactless enough to say thank you again, so I just nodded and decided to start looking around.
I looked around the room to see where to start looking, and found a large desk against the wall. On the desk was a half-length candle, and a book about the size of a notebook.
I opened it without moving it from its original position, but it was too dark to read the words properly. I wanted some light, but I couldn’t leave any traces of my intrusion by lighting a fire.
”I can’t help it.”
I imagine creating a pebble, which I don’t like to do because it makes me very tired, my ring begins to glow faintly and a blue light illuminates the book.
“I’ve never seen anyone use magic for light before.”
Shut up. Unlike the sensory enhancement magic in your house, it’s not that easy to use. I resisted the urge to complain, opened the appropriate page, and read the words before the light went out. There it is.
“Today’s Alice Tan.”
I closed the book, feeling very angry because of the magic.
