The Supreme Sage - Chapter 23
Seeing this scene, Rachel nodded slightly after getting a whiff of the iron in the air.
Then, as if nothing had happened, she leapt into the air, disappearing in the night.
Nearly, 6 minutes later, a planes flew in from above, from which a figure leapt off and landed at the scene.
It was Barton, who had kept his promise of arriving within 7 minutes. Most Grand mages, and similar level people can levitate, however, their speed is in horizontal flight is even slower than their walking speed. Peak level 79 characters can fly at astonishing speed, however they cannot maintain it for too long, and would rather fly using planes that can fly at similar speed to conserve their energy.
Naturally, this changes once one advances to level 80, things change. However, no one, within the confines of the world that Gamin and the other continents exist in has a living person who has reached that level. Currently the strongest people are those who are at 79.
Once the Third Version begins, and ‘Dimensional Gates’ open, the amount of ambient energy within the entire world should have increased, and allowed a lot of peak level characters stuck at 79 to proceed onto level 80.
But till then peak level characters were the strongest.
“Sigh”
Barton let out a long sigh as he stared at the pool of blood in front of him. He had already recognized this as human blood. He was sure that this couldn’t be Rachel’s blood, since it was impossible for the 12 people in the infiltration squad to have someone powerful enough.
Therefore he assume Rachel had completed what she wanted to do and left.
He then went around to search for survivors. Along the way, he spotted 4 pools of blood in different locations, and had found 7 survivors, including the captain.
However, he didn’t find ‘The Sage’ Lucas. This was incredibly disheartening, since the reason for all the progress in eliminating The Resistance, was dead.
With another sigh, he brought the survivors to the plane and had them be sent off back to the nearest MI9 base for treatment.
At this moment, in a secluded part of the mountain, a lone figure was struggling to walk. One of his hands had been cut off, and was slowly healing itself. The build of this figure resembled a skeleton, with skin as pale a snow.
It was the figure of Luke in his signature Hooded Black Windbreaker.
In the entire chaos that was Rachel, Luke had come up with a risky plan to fake his death instead of hiding from Rachel. When she was chasing after Luke, she was completely enraged by Luke’s actions and words.
Therefore she did not bother to find a simpler solution that was creating a strong enough wind to blow away the fog, and then use her super-human perception to locate her target.
However, the longer he stretched out the fight, the more likely she was to realize and implement such a strategy.
That is why is must have been an S+ Mission. Missions would only give difficulty for the current situation. If fighting an opponent of equal strength is around a C ranked mission, then fighting that same opponent when you are heavily injured would become a B+ or even A ranked mission.
That is why it was S+ ranked, since Luke himself could be squashed like a bug with even one of Rachel’s casual attacks.
At that critical moment, he voluntarily used Body Magic to push 80% of his blood and flesh into his left hand, swelling it up like a balloon, And then creating a Golem using this flesh and blood, along with the bones of his arm, to make Rachel feel some sort of cracking resistance when killing him.
Golems are essentially the same as the figurines he made earlier, but contain a source of energy, which can allow them to move. Since Luke was not carrying any generators or monster cores, he simply controlled it himself using his own remaining energy.
Just as Rachel’s attack had landed, Luke had used his [Advance Mental Perception] and [Advanced Mind Spells Lv 5] to erase his main body’s presence from Rachel’s mind.
Naturally, this was only possible thanks to the fact that most of her attentiveness had been blocked out by anger, while the remaining little was on the Golem of flesh and blood.
It was only natural that the combination of an advanced skill and advanced talent at max level would be able to erase something that is not the main focus of even a peak level being, who was in an enraged state.
With this, he remained hidden behind a tree, completely frozen in a thin layer of ice.
As soon as Rachel took her leave, Luke had melted the ice and regained life. However, he did not have much blood or muscles in him, and the only reason he was alive was due to the talent [Intermediate Recovery Body], [Beginner Regeneration], and [Intermediate Healing Spells], all of which had already levelled up to the max, trying to keep his body alive.
However, energy could not make up for substance. What Luke required was food in order to regrow his severed left hand. [Intermediate Recovery Body] could even heal severed limbs over time, however the time required for healing an entire arm was easily more than a month, and would only increase as Luke’s Level increased.
The higher the vitality, the more time it would take to heal a wound. At level 79, a shallow cut would take [Intermediate Recovery Body] a whole month to heal. This was because that shallow cut contained as much HP as the current Luke’s entire arm.
However, Evolving the Talent would naturally result in better abilities, which Luke considered to be incredibly useful.
Currently he was searching for something to fill his stomach with. He had also decided to wait until his hand was fully healed till he exposed his reappearance to MI9.
Instead, he would focus on digesting more of the knowledge and advance to Intermediate Mage, while gaining exp through normal missions within this month of recovery.
His clothes were mostly intact, including the sleeve of his broken left hand, that was only drenched in blood. With this much, he began his search for food while browsing through the mission completion reward.
