T/N: Well, sorry guys. I only managed to finish half of it. I got a flu and has been resting all this while. I’ll post the rest of the chapter next week. And as usual because it’s incomplete, I haven’t posted it on novelupdates yet.n
Here’s the complete version. This mark the end of book 2. Happy reading!nn
“Besides, just for coming to find me, you took so much time and you even got engaged. As expected, Sir Roel can’t be left alone.”
“Anyone can’t easily meet the High Priest, you know!”
“You should have gotten the better of the people around you.”
“…, even if I revealed my identity, anyone wouldn’t believe it. Don’t you think so?”
“You should have made a good use of some facts that were only known by the leader of Holy Knight Squad. As a matter of course it would be utterly absurd to identify yourself as Sir Roel, but it would have been easy to trick the people you associated with. It’s not difficult to make a contact with one of the members of the Holy Knight Squad since you also have another identity as a Count’s daughter. If only you stated frankly that you’ve a very close relationship with Sir Roel along with revealing some tidbits that only Sir Roel knew of, you would have been able to attend the funeral. I also attended the funeral, so I could have recognized Sir Roel right away.”
Ha, I have nothing to say. Of course, at that time there’s not much time left until the funeral and I still wasn’t that enthusiastic about the thoughts of returning to the church, but even after that, I could have used the method that the High Priest just said. Especially Vatein who was actually really familiar with Lord Roel since we’ve spent our childhood together so we knew each other very well, and if I managed to persuade him, he might have done me a favor and let me see the High Priest right away. If the High Priest’s friend who was very close to him was dead, he would also have come out to see his friend one last time and sent his friend off at the funeral. How come I couldn’t think of using similar method when I had to make an excuse for having holy power! Damn it.
“Sir Roel doesn’t know how to make the best of what she has.”
“…, it’s not that I don’t know at all about it.”
“I’ve heard that young ladies often treated you to refreshments to take advantage of you.”
“That, that’s…”
“You didn’t even want to eat the food I gave to you.”
“…….”
It must be adjutant Sieg. Adjutant Sieg must have tattled on me! Otherwise, there’s no way the High Priest, who can’t get out of the Central Church, knew about that. I shuddered and bent my head down.
“…, I’m sorry.”
“Even if you don’t eat my food, it’s alright.”
It might be so but there’s reason for everything. He should have given something that normal people could eat.
“You should apologize to Sir Rizar for your behavior. You’re being too harsh on someone who is worried about you.”
Erm, I guess I was a bit overreacted. I was getting worked up after hearing he decided to break off the engagement as he pleases all of a sudden… As I turned my head to look at him, Captain Jullius hastily got up from his seat.
“No, it’s true that I might have looked down on Lord Roel.”
“But still, my words were too harsh. I’m sorry.”
“I’m also sorry for deciding on my own and didn’t acknowledge Lord Roel’s abilities.”
The High Priest clapped lightly.
“Both of you have done really well. Since you’re engaged, you have to get along and rely on each other.”
And then he beckoned to both of us to sit down again.
“Don’t worry too much, Sir Rizar. If Sir Roel is with you and it’s getting more dangerous beyond a certain degree, I’ll seperate her away from you even if she doesn’t like it. So you can rest assured now.”
And now, the words he said sounded that it had a significant meaning. Then, if Captain Jullius’ situation turns out to be dangerous, you’re saying that you’ll seperate us by force. Damn, in that situation that might occur, I don’t think therewill be anyone on my side.
“Like I’ve said before, the demons might be after you, but actually if you remain inside the capital, there will be no threat in particular. That being so, I was the only one who knew and covered it up. Nothing much happened in particular in the last 10 years, right? There should be none.”n
The High Priest looked at the two of us with gentle eyes.
“You two, are you going to get married?”
… Grandpa, your hair has turned pink. What on earth are you thinking about? I wonder if we looked like wilted cabbage in his eyes.
“We still don’t know about it. Because we don’t love each other. Right, Captain Jullius?”
“Just as what Lord Roel said, we decided to get married if we don’t have anyone we love within half a year.”
The High Priest paused for a moment and then asked us.
“By any chance, do you know the feeling of love?”
“It’s said the other person will be shining.”
“I heard the other person looks shiny.”
“…., Oh my Goddess.”
(T/N: basically he said ‘omg’. Because in this story the characters worship the Goddess, that’s why it changed like that)
The High Priest lamented. I mean, why, what the hell was that. Even though we don’t understand well, but just say what you wanted to say.
“High Priest, you also have no experience in dating either, so why did you react like that?”
“I have the Goddess’ love.”
I think that’s a bit different.
“Anyway, if you get married, you’ll have children.”
Uhm… is that so? Well, then again, I guess so. I answered seriously.
“If we’ve a son, I think it will be nice if he resembles Captain Jullius. To be honest, my current body isn’t gifted with any particular talent. If I can’t use holy power, then I’ll just become a normal person.”
If the child take after Captain Jullius, he’ll be healthy and strong. If I was in my original body, either a son or a daughter, it would be better for them to resemble me. Captain Jullius who was sitting next to me also added some words.
“I would also like to have children that resemble Lord Roel. Be it your current or past self.”
“It would be okay if the daughter resembles the current me. Anyway, it’ll be just a waste of talent unless she has holy power.”
There is nothing but becoming a clergy where a woman can rise to a high-ranking position without relying on her father’s or husband’s status. It was unfair, but that’s how the laws of the country were, so there’s nothing we could do.
“If we’re going to have children, then maybe around five to six children? I can recover quickly and there is also healing power, so it won’t be difficult to give birth.”
I heard that giving birth is not that easy, but I’ve strong holy power, so there shouldn’t be a problem. Even though it’s a pity that it’s not my original flesh and blood, but it’s still my family after all. Both of us have neither biological parents nor siblings in our lives, so it’s better to have more family members than less.
“Adjutant Sieg’s going to have a hard time.”
“Why do you mention adjutant Sieg?”
Instead of answering, the High Priest just drank the last bit remaining tea on his cup. A little clattering sound could be heard when he put down teacup.
“Young children are weak.”
At the High Priest’s words, the two of us recoiled at the the thought and at the same time our body turned stiff.
“At least the people around Sir Rizar, including Sir Roel, can protect theirselves. But it’s different matter if you have children. It’s necessary to get this matter straight before you get married.”
“…, How? High Priest, you said yourself that you also didn’t know the exact reason of his situation.”
“Therefore, bring Sir Rizar with you on the upcoming expedition. You’re planning to leave him behind, weren’t you?”
I tilted my head.
“You said it’s dangerous.”
“I said, it might be dangerous. If there are demons who are after Sir Rizar, they won’t miss out the chance that finally comes after 10 years of waiting. If you’re going to raid on them, try to capture one alive if possible. But if nothing happens, then henceforth there’s nothing much to be worried about.”
“But…”
“If you go with the current members, that should be enough. However we don’t know what could possibly happen so Iner will accompany you.”n
Saintess Inertia. If she accompanied us, it’s almost certain that there wouldn’t be a problem even if the Demon King came to launch a sneak attack on us. If any demon or monster come within a certain range, she will notice it first, so there is no way we will encounter any surprise attack, and her holy power is second only to the High Priest. However, since the Saintess is the High Priest’s aide, she rarely leaves the Holy Church.
“Are you allowed to dispatch the Saintess to join us?”
“It’s alright. Actually, the existence of the Saintess… isn’t really necessary…”
The High Priest wriggled his fingers while having a slightly troubled face.
“The Goddess created her to attend to the High Priest. While it’s indeed convenient if she’s here, but even if she’s not, it’s not a big problem either… Therefore I’m disinclined to keep Iner inside the church. I know she’s here for my own safety, but unlike other Saintesses, she’s different because she has the ability to protect herself.”
I didn’t know in details but I’ve heard that she came from some backstreet syndicate. Because she kept refusing the High Priest’s summons of her, in the end the previous leader of Holy Knight Squad set out for the task and had a hard time in capturing Inertia.
“That’s why you don’t have to worry about anything when it comes to the Saintess. Rather than that, beware of adjutant Sieg. If there’s indeed a demon showing up and attacking you, it’s very likely that it’ll get caught, so you two have to do well in pretending that you’ve a very close relationship before then. Truthfully, I’m more worried about what will happen when adjutant Sieg discovers everything.”
“You’re exaggerating that…”
“I’m not kidding, you know?”
The High Priest said in all seriousness. What’s this, you’re basically saying that the demons are nothing because in the end, our adjutant is the ultimate obstacle.
In the end, the High Priest decided to meddle in and accompany Captain Jullius and Iner in the process of capturing the Demon King. Clauen, who was waiting outside, didn’t inquire in details about what was going on inside, but he seemed to be relieved because my expression was quite the same as before. And just like that, we returned to Ortzen’s office in the Special Task Squad’s headquarters.
“You’re here.”
As if he’s the owner of this room, Siegfred occupied the long sofa while Ortzen stood respectfully next to him. I don’t know what’s going on between them while we’re gone, but as certain as it appeared to be, adjutant Sieg’s been taking the lead. Frankly speaking, no matter what Ortzen tried to do, it’s all for naught since the disparity in the identity was too big. How could a felon who barely avoided death penalty defeat a prince whose blood of the Imperial Family flows in him? Adjutant Sieg stood one step behind and looked at us.n
“Quickly come in. Please have a seat here. Adjutant Ortzen, please bring out some refreshments.”
“Yes, yes.”
Uhh… The fact that Ortzen is a bad guy remains unchanged and it couldn’t be help, but now he looks pitiful. Ortzen has given up the thought of going against him and with the look on his face that could be interpreted as ‘please, just do whatever you want’, he put down the teapot on the small stove to boil it. Just because he had that attentive look on his face, it didn’t mean that he’s truly giving up, but still he’s bound to fail.
Captain Jullius and I sat next to each other across from adjutant Sieg.
“Did you tell Ortzen?”
At my question, adjutant Sieg sat down again and nodded his head.
“Because if he knows, it’ll be easier to use him.”
“Don’t treat people as if they’re objects.”
Ortzen’s putting the pastries down on the table first then grumbled. Then he shifted his gaze towards me.n
“Thanks to you, now I’m able to figure out the reason behind Countess Epheria’s rash action back then. If the sacrifice that should have died was still alive and well and on top of that the said sacrifice was trying to join hands with the Special Task Squad, it would definitely become the worst possible scenario for her so no wonder she became uneasy and resorted to take such a hasty attempt.”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you. But I didn’t think you’d believe me if I told you I’m Roel.”
“You’ve got a point there.”
Ortzen nodded his head and went back to the stove. Adjutant Sieg said he’s going to be a butler, but for now it looked like he has Ortzen serving him instead. I cleared my throat once and hugged Captain Jullius’ arm who was sitting next to me.
“Adjutant.”
“Yes?”
“I’ve a good relationship with Captain Jullius. And we like each other. Right, Captain?”
“I definitely like Lord Roel very much.”
Adjutant Sieg just fixedly stared at both of us without saying anything. Is this much appeal enough? Should we become more affectionate? What should I do?
“And I’ve slept together with him.”
“You must have only slept without doing anything anyway. But please be careful from now on. The marriage hasn’t been decided yet, but if there’s groundless rumor going around, you as the young lady is the only one who will be in trouble.”
“No, we’re going to get married!”
I exclaimed and my clutch at Captain Jullius’ arm became even tighter. It’ll be safer if I tell him that we’ll certainly get married. In my words, adjutant Sieg looked alternately between Ortzen, -who was silently taking out tea leaves as if he was completely out of the place-, and us then he tilted his head.
“Did you just say you’re going to get married?”
“Yes!”
I was worried Captain Jullius might bring up unnecessary talk, but though I don’t know if my intention had been conveyed, fortunately he didn’t say anything. He just looked at me once.
“I see.”
Adjutant Sieg nodded and continued to talk.
“If that’s so, let’s inform Prime Minister Mord of this matter.”
“What? Why?!”
W,why did you suddenly mention my guardian out of nowhere?
“Are you going to disclose everything to the Prime Minister?”
“He’s trustworthy. Besides, your current body belongs to a young lady without any parents, doesn’t it? You need to have a guardian first before you could get married. No, in that case, having a godfather would be better.”
“No! I don’t think that’s a good idea!”
Even when he was my guardian, he always meddled with everything, and that’s why I’m absolutely against having him as my godfather.
“Then, how about an adoptive father?”
“…, I want neither a godfather nor an adoptive father.”
“Let’s settle on godfather then.”
“….. what about my opinion?”
“Now you’re not my superior anymore, so I think it’s alright to disregard your opinion.”
…. Hey. My fists were trembling with anger, but it’s beyond my ability to stop the Prince in front of me from doing what he wants. Although adjutant Sieg was in the position of an adjutant while he’s not a knight, but that’s because the Holy Knight Squad is different from the rest, and even if he joined a regular knight squad, he’s capable enough to occupy an important position. That being so, I couldn’t even resort to violence and it’s even more impossible to defeat him verbally, not to mention Ortzen was also stuck with him over there, so I was wondering how could I win. In the end, I unclenched my fists and my face looked like I was about to cry.
“That’s too much.”
“It’s all for your own good, Miss.”
“This is unfair.”
(T/N: actually MC said same words twice. 너무해 can be translated as ‘something being too much’ or ‘unfair’, though I usually prefer to translate it as ‘being too much’)
“… I’ll prevent Prime Minister Mord from nagging you about your engagement.”
“Don’t let him give Captain Jullius a hard time.”
“But–“
“Do it for me, please.”
“….. yes.”
Adjutant Sieg sighed and nodded. Good, at least I can be at ease now. Then Ortzen came while bringing the tea and opened his mouth. It’s already my the third cup.n
“Even if Sir Siegfred is willing to appease the Prime Minister about the engagement, Lord Roel will soon create another trouble that deserve to be nagged at anyway, won’t she?”
(T/N: actually Ortzen used 님 the highest form of honorifics to address Sieg. It’s used for people who are of a higher rank than oneself. There’s no equivalent English translation for this Korean honorific and fyi though I used ‘Sir’, it’s not right either as the hanja(Korean words derived from Chinese words) for ‘Sir/Lord’ is 경. But I still use ‘Sir’ anyway to make it sounds more polite)
“It,it’s not really like that though?”
That’s a slander!
“Honestly, just thinking about the fact that you’re going to enter the high society as a Countess, I’m already having a headache.”
“What are you talking about, you don’t know how popular I was in high society!”
The invitation cards were piled up to the point of filling up the entire room! When I refuted, this time adjutant Sieg hit me on the sore spot.
“As a matter of fact, Miss attended them just so you could get free snacks anyway.”
“I, it’s nothing like that!”
…, though that’s the truth. But the church only serves nutritious food day in, day out! Be that as it may, it would make me appear like a tactless person if I asked the church to buy snacks with the limited budget just so I could eat them! I didn’t cause any harm to anyone so what if I sold my look to get some free snacks!
With an aggrieved look on my face, I tugged my fiance’s arm.
“They’re bullying me!”
Scold them for me! Captain Jullius alternately looked at the two adjutants and me, and he looked troubled for a moment, then said in a helpless tone.
“In this case, most likely we’re in the wrong, so we have to bear with it.”
“Damn it!”
He’s right though. If adjutant Sieg nags, in most cases it must be true that it’s my fault.
“Still, it’s unfair…”
When I grumbled a bit, Captain Jullius consoled me and said to the two adjutants.
“Lord Roel is having a hard time, I hope you can stop now.”
“Alright. I’m very pleased to see the two of you get along really well.”
Ortzen said so and left his seat while carrying an empty tray. I thought you were discouraged, but it seemed there wasn’t much change.
“It will take some time for the letter to come and go, so in the meantime I’ll make sure to set and strengthen your foundation befitting your current position. Frankly speaking, Count Epheria is just a wealthy countryside noble with only a little money to spare.”
(T/N: a wealthy man with little money to spare is a figurative speech to mock someone who has lots of money but also has bad personality)
“No, even for now it’s already more than enough for me.”
“For me, it’s not much.”
“…, I’m fine with it.”
I’ve said so, but he didn’t seem like he’s going to listen to me. Damn. Until the preparation to capture the Demon King is complete, perhaps I should look for a chance to escape and hide somewhere.
“First, we’ve to buy a new mansion. The current Count’s residence is way too far from the Imperial Palace. And Roanne Epheria is such an eyesore, so can I adequately deal with her?”
“Just let her be–, no, don’t be too hard on her.”
If I told him to leave her alone, I know he’d still take care of her in his own way. Without even looking, it’s so obvious that he really meant it.
“How many banquet do you want to hold?”
“I don’t like banquets now. The dresses are uncomfortable and I can’t eat as much as I want.”
“But as the goddaughter of Prime Minister Mord, ideally you’ll still have to attend once.”
“Then just once.”
“Yes.”
Adjutant Sieg stood up from his seat and said.
“Her Highness Princess Aranea is reluctant to provide any help again, so this time, I’ll have to ask for my younger sister’s help.”n
Younger sister? What younger sister– ah. I recalled what Sofia said to me. The most beautiful woman in the Empire, the young lady of Duke Kidea’s household. So the young lady who is currently actively engaged in the Imperial court and get the title of matchless twin stars together with Princess Aranea, is turn out to be adjutant Sieg’s younger sister. Somehow I had a hunch that it would turn into an annoying banquet.
(T/N: 쌍벽 lit. translation is ‘matchless twin stars’. It’s a figurative speech that means two people who are equally competent.)n
