The Third Party - Chapter 76
3rd Person’s POV (12 yrs., 8 months)
The next day Ken woke up with another start, took his bath, ate his breakfast, gave his parents a kiss on the cheek and readied himself for the day.
On the way to the field, he was walking casually taking in the chill of the morning air further refreshing his senses.
‘Today is such a good day White, what do you think we should do?’ he asked, with that smile on his face and a bop on his step… because he’s bopping to the rhythm of his feet.
‘I don’t know, there’s nothing much that I need to do, except for monitoring those researcher’s course of actions, what about you?’ White said, floating right beside Ken.
‘I think I’ll just go on with our class today, and find some chores to do after.’ Ken replied, glancing at the side for a second.
‘You still want more things to do?’ asked White, never getting the hang of why his host loves to do so many things, sometimes at once. Aren’t casting spells and fighting enough? Apparently not for this one.
Ken only giggled in response, the morning light complimenting his smiling face creating a beautiful and serene scene to anyone who’d gaze upon him.
Unfortunately, everyone he passed were busy of their own business, but he’s not that bothered since he’s lost in his own world as well. Thinking to himself what kind of big spells he’ll use this day or small ones but deals immense damage…
Maybe he’ll not use those small spells or else he’ll end up killing or severely injuring his friends or Masters… He should discard these thoughts at once.
‘Ah, I have arrived.’ thought Ken to himself, he walked down the field almost skipping along the way, while White quietly positioned himself atop Ken’s head like he’d always done before.
This position was both optimal and easy for him to assist Ken whenever he needs his help. Now to relax and monitor his host’s body composition.
White quickly notices something within Ken, a red energy that seems to be covering his whole body.
White was instantly alarmed, checking and feeling what this energy is doing inside Ken, but after checking, he found out that it was just a spell to… numbing one’s senses?
‘Ken, what’s this spell on your body?’ he asked, as the guy was conversing with his friends, the group slowly walking to the weights area beside their obstacle course. Today was equipments and obstacle course day.
All were excited since this would be a little bit of time to show off their moves on those contraptions, well, mostly the boys were hyped up.
‘Hm? It’s a numbing spell, why?’ of course he knew that, but why was Ken using such a spell.
‘I’m concerned, have you been using it for a long time now?’ that got Ken thinking, has he? Maybe he did. When was the last time he casted it on himself? Ken nodded subtly.
‘Hmm… You may want to lift it off you, the spell seems to be going unstable.’ replied White, Ken’s eyes widened for a second, but he quickly recovered himself, so he doesn’t alarm anyone around him.
‘Okay.’ He silently agreed, slowly lifting off the numbing spell he casted on himself, if only he remembered why he casted this on himself, oh he remembers-
Searing pain suddenly coursed through his body, stopping him in his tracks, his friends noticed immediately and turned to him, but they weren’t able to ask what was wrong when the guy suddenly laid himself on ground.
“AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” the group clutched their ears from the sudden outburst of a scream, they all didn’t expect this, more so when the guy’s shout was no ordinary one.
Ken proceeded to roll around, back and forth and back and forth, all the while screaming and whining in pain.
The group only stared at him wide eyed, torn whether to laugh or feel pity for him.
A magic circle appeared atop Ken’s form as he finished rolling around, the magic circle dispersed in green light indicating that Ken casted a healing spell.
It did give some form of relief to him, seconds later, the pain came back, he hastily stood up, conjured a magic circle that created an ice pool around him and filled up with water.
The pain felt like searing heat from out of nowhere, like he’s getting himself doused in hot lava. He hasn’t felt how hot lava can be though.
Ken submerged into the cool water and he then felt some form of comfort, he sighed in relief and slowly floated himself on the ice pool.
He casted another magic circle in the air that will secure the pool from melting away under the sun’s heat.
The scene happened so fast that the group whom were frozen still only returned to their stupor once they felt the cold energies leaking from the pool.
Questions raised in their head. Riyah tried to approach the pool Ken made, but only two steps forward, she could not bear the coldness the contraption exuded as she hastily ran back to the group, a shivering mess.
“T-that’s s-some c-cold s-spell.” she said, obviously stuttering, her brother immediately enveloped her in warm heat from his body, the cold from earlier bit him, but he only increased his heat effectively dispersing the coldness from her sister.
Riyah sighed in relief and smiled at her brother in gratitude.
“It’s that cold?” asked Allen, gazing at the Avian girl whose features popped out from her sudden retraction from Ken’s contraption. Allen held out his hand on the pool, and immediately, he felt the cold energies.
He stopped mid-way for if he were to force it, the cold would certainly bite him as well.
“What are we going to do?” asked Celine, looking at their leader. Allen scratched his chin for a moment.
“Only one way to find out, we’ll have to ask the person what is happening.” He replied, but how are they going to approach Ken when there’s something hindering them.
An idea popped into Allen’s mind.
“How about we float atop Ken.” He said and jumped upward, floating in the air. He found out that the cold didn’t reach on this height.
“Are you okay?” asked Lila, Allen only nodded, signaling the others to follow, and that they did.
They each looked at the form of Ken, floating on the water, looking close to drowning, they chuckled to themselves at this person who both looked pitiful and funny at the same time.
Wilbert approached the guy, but the closer he floated, the colder he felt, so he only stopped a meter atop Ken.
“Hey Ken, what are you doing?” he said. Ken opened his eyes and stood on the pool, his clothes soaked, as well as his hair that dropped behind him, he combed the other strands that placed themselves in front of his face.
This scene would have looked ethereal if not only for that black lined expression he had on his face. He vehemently splashed water on his face causing Wilbert to avoid in a hurry.
“My body hurts.” He said quietly, pouting to himself.
“What?” asked Wilbert, genuinely confused, he didn’t hear what Ken said.
“My body hurts.” said Ken, this time a little louder so Wilbert could hear. Wilbert eyes widened in realization, but it quickly fell and turned into confusion, why does his friend’s body hurt?
“Why?” he asked, Ken opened his mouth to babble on about how many things piled up causing all the pain to burst forth inside him, and with the spell he casted on himself made it all the more painful to bear.
But he only sighed and quietly narrated the things to his friend. The others slowly approached the duo while they were talking.
After explaining his circumstance to the others, he apologized for his sudden behavior, obviously he knew that it was rude of him to shout in such a loud voice.
The rest reassured him that everything was okay, he smiled in gratitude. Ken still flinched from the pain though, and retreated back into the cold waters to quell the flames on his body.
He made bubbles in the water clearly displeased with himself. They only looked at him at a loss, after knowing his circumstance, they honestly do not know how to help Ken.
They could just go back and carry on with their task for the day since that is the only thing they’d be able to do. Ken recognized the reluctance evident on the faces of his friends, he can’t selfishly keep them here, they have other things to do as well.
“You guys can go on with the day, I’ll be fine here.” he said looking into them.
“Are you sure?” asked Saber.
“I’m sure.” Saber nodded slowly at that, glancing back again at the determined face of Ken. Saber quietly backed off, followed one by one by the others.
“Go ahead and join them you two and stop worrying about me.” said Ken to Wilbert and Celine. The two wanted to protest, but ultimately decided against it when Ken gave them a stern look.
The two looked like kicked puppies if they would exaggerate their expressions, Ken smiled at the clear worry his friend had for him. The two eventually left and joined the others.
Now, what shall Ken do to relieve himself from this excruciating pain. Relaxing would have to do. He feels like whimper both in dog and cat versions from the pain.
The masters arrived in confusion at the sudden contraption on their field, there they could see a person, floating in the water.
